The Magic of SO - Story

Welcome! Welcome to the magical land of Shinkou! I'll be your guide while you're visiting. Have you seen some of the inhabitants here on your journey? Saw some magic did you? Well, you can do it too! Just listen and I'll explain. You see this glowing orb by my shoulder? We call this a Spirit. No, not one of those ghosts or undead lost soul things. Shinkou Spirits were never dead. We think of them as living elements, though no one really understands what they truly are. They won't tell us themselves since they can't speak, but some have been known to communicate telepathically.

The spirits are very important to Shinkou. Why? Because they are the source of magic here. Without magic, this land would die and that's why we call it the magical land of Shinkou! Spirits also have a very important job to do in this world, but for now, I'll explain how you can choose your own magic with a Spirit's help.

Spirits are all over this land, so it's easy to attract one's attention. Your type of thoughts will influence what kind of spirits will be attracted to you. If you don't have any magic already, spirits will follow you wanting to merge. They will only merge with your permission, so it's possible to decline and they will leave you alone, but you won't get any magical abilities that way. Merging with a spirit is easy, they do all the work. It doesn't hurt and it doesn't change you, the spirit simply attaches itself to your soul and gives you the ability to use it's magic. It will become a part of you, so after the merging, you won't even realize it's there!

Hmm? We gain magic but how do the Spirits benefit? Spirits on their own can use magic, but only small spells. They have large quantities of magic, but can only tap into it when they've merged with another creature. So needless to say, they're happy to help!

Usually once you've merged with one spirit, the others will no longer wish to merge with you. While rare, but not unusual, another spirit may approach you wanting to merge even when you've already merged with one other spirit already. The merging procedure is the same and it doesn't hurt you at all. This will give you access to two different elemental magics! Pretty lucky! That's usually the limit though. It rarely happens, but some Spirits have wanted to merge with creatures who already had merged twice before. Two seems to be the limit though, because that situation didn't end happily.

Spirits also seem to have a like and dislike for others depending on their magic types. If you merge with a Water Spirit for example, Fire Spirits will avoid you. Which means whatever spirit you merge with first, might play a role in what kind of Spirit wants to merge with you the second time.

Oh! And it's possible to be born with magic! Creatures born on Shinkou show signs of magic because the Spirits will merge with them as infants when they are still with their mothers. Spirits appear to like children the most, so a lot of babies are born this way.

So that's about all I can tell you about elements and magic and Spirits. Even after all that, there are still many things we do not understand about Spirits. Maybe in your stay you'll discover something new! I hope you like it here, I really had fun teaching you!

Magic Rules

Controlling Time is not allowed.

Magic cannot bend or warp time and space.

It's alright for a character not to have magic powers.

ChaRacters can have up to two different elemental magics.

If a character has one element, they can have up to seven different spells for that element. If they have two elements, they can have up to eight spells total. Not eight spells for each element, eight spells total.

Different elements for a single character cannot conflict.
Commonly conflicting elements are:
Fire and Water
Earth and Air
Light and Darkness
Poison and Healing

Magic spells cannot godmode or powerplay, so be careful when writing their descriptions. While it doesn't completely matter on the profile to some extent, making sure the use of the spell is appropriate in roleplay is important.

Extended Rules- How to Use Magic

Use magic sparingly. Normally a character will only call on their magic for a battle situation. MAgics used on a regular basis however for say, their daily life, would be mediocre in performance and display. Meaning: Don't use spells to show off or be mystical and magical all the time.

Magic, when used against another character that doesn't belong to you, is always an attempt. You cannot decide what happens to another character, unless they belong to you, when attacking them with magic. When countering attacks directed at your character, use common sense to judge if your defenses are successful or fail. Blocking every single attack thrown at your character is godmoding, especially if your character doesn't take any damage in the process.

Auto healing is looked down upon, especially when it is used too much. Limit healing abilities to small wounds and scratches. Healing your character to full health every time they are hurt is godmoding.

Controlling or destroying nature is godmoding. No single creature has the power to blow up a mountain or create a typhoon or freeZe the ocean, etc. Weather element creatures simply need to be limited in what they can control. Rain storms in a small, limited area are fine.

Telepathy is fine as long as your character is not acting as a "I see all and hear all" type of gloat. Characters cannot know more than you do, nor can they read another character's mind without permission. Even when a character is speaking to another one telepathicallY, they must have permission from the other character's creator.

Teleportation is classified as a power that warps space, but it's allowed only if the power is not abused. It's power should be greatly limited along with it's use and accuracy.

That's it for the magic section! Now you can go on to the Forum Agreement post and eventually post your first profile.
