Alright. Long story.
Today, while we were moving the goats for breeding purposes, [Yes, Mad lives on a farm,] we noticed that one of our Great Pyrenees was tangled up in barbed wire. This just so happened to be the most wild dog you could ever meet. We can't get within ten feet of the dog without him running away.
I would advise anyone who is interested in taking in the detail of my story to quickly google Great Pyrenees, and just look at how HUGE they are. That being said, I'm going to move on.
My step-dad herded the dog near the goat shed. Me, my mom, and my step-dad all cornered him. He layed down on the ground and let us grab his collar. Mind you, this barbed wire is almost in knots around him. It's looped and tangled and all that jazz. Anyway, they started un-tangling it, but they realized that they would need for him to stand up so that they could get it from around his leg. Once they started pulling on his collar, he freaked out. Not just freaked out, we thought he was going to break his neck. Mom decided it would be better to close him up in the shed. She turned, dog's collar still in her hand, and began to pull him.
Here's where it got ugly. Buddy, the dog, reached up and bit her arm, hard. Mom screamed and let him go, but he wanted to get one more bite in. He missed, thankfully, but the CLACK that his jaws made when he bit made me cringe. Anyway. Mom went back up to the house, and my Step-dad got Buddy down again after another twenty minutes of herding. Luckily, the coat I had on had wire-clippers in it, and a leash from when MY dog, Abbey, got out earlier. I walked in and handed the clippers to him. Guess what? The barbed wire wouldn't be cut. See, barbed wire is like two wires welded together, and weaved around each other. Yeah. Handy, right? Buddy ended up trying to bite my step-dad, but he let him go before he could.
We left Buddy and went back up to the house. We were going to call the vet to get some tranquilizers to put in his food, but the vet is out until monday. My concern is that Buddy will tear himself to shreds before we can ask the vet about what to do. I honestly think that he's going to end up getting put down. I think that would be best at this point, and I'm not saying that to be inhumane or something. If you had seen the way this is tangled, how he bit my mom, and just the sheer size of this dog, I think you would do the same. Problem is, I don't think my mom will do it. What should I do, guys?
This is mostly a rant, but I am worried about my dog. Imput isn't NEEDED, but would be helpful.
