Darklight was no longer hungry. She was simply content to sit by the fire and soak in its warmth. It didn't take long for her eyes to become heavy. Her head lolled forward a moment, but she caught herself and quickly straightened her self. She yawned and lay down, still near to the fire, but a safe distance away. A fire of her own creation couldn't harm her, but she didn't want to worry the two who didn't know that. After a moment, Darklights eyes were closed, and she was fast asleep.
The tempest outside was raging now. Snow was whipped every which way, causing chaos to senses. You couldn't see farther then two or three yards. The flurry sent smells in a whirlwind, making it impossible to find their source. All that could be heard was the raging wind. It deafened the ears to all that was around. Inside the cave, though, there was no furry of wind and sleet. The scents of the four wolves, their pray, and the fire filled the room, though it was far stuffy. The fire in the center of the generously sized cave gave off a warm, gentle glow that kept the cold at bay. All to be heard now was the gentle, deep breathing of two sleeping wolves, and the steady, slightly fast, breathing of the two wolves who remained awake.
Ea mind was occupied with the raging snow outside. It caught her a little off guard when Ula began to whimper in her sleep. I was a nightmare. The way her face clenched, it was apparent. Gann stood up and walked over to the sleeping wolf, and snuggled next to her. Ea smiled warmly. That Gann, he just seemed completely unable to leave a female in need.

Ula's nightmare quickly receeded into nothingness as Gann's familiar warmth snuggled close to her side. Though she wouldn't know that until she woke, peace soon enveloped her once again. Sleep, was once more welcome and friendly.
Gann smiled as Ula calmed, nuzzling her once more before rising and walking back to the shoulder he had cut into before. He yanked another chunk of meat from the cow and carried it a few feet away from the entrance, close enough to talk to Ea, but far enough away so as not to disturb the two slumbering wolves. If there was one thing he had learned, it was not to wake one who didn't want to be woken up.
He sat down and quietly began to eat his meat. The young male would wait until Ea either questioned him about his previous behavior or went to sleep herself. Either way, he was hungry! The meat was good, a little tough, but still full of the wild flavor. However, as much as he may want to, he knew he needed to eat little in the next few days. Gann didn't know how long this storm would last, or when the next break would be. And if there was no break, there was no hunt.

Gann had come back, but Ea was remained quiet for a long time. Eventually, she opened her mouth. "Gann...what do you feel when you look at Ula?" She knew the question was strange...and blunt...but in order to figure out the mystery between these two, thats is what she would need to ask. There was a momentary change in the direction of the wind. It blew a slow wind and soft snow in her direction. It was cold, but it felt good to her. She inhaled. The scent of the wild storm was one that was unique in and of itself. It was the mixture of every scent outside. What a strange this, this storm was.

Gann took another bite of his meat before answering, watching her reaction to the wind blowing in her fur. Though he was too far back for the wind to have touched him, the scents reached his nose. He breathed in the outside world, letting it clear his mind and steady his confused thoughts.
What do I feel? The question was blunt and unusual, but with his recent behavior Gann knew it was completely acceptable. "I feel...familiarity. Like I know her." He shrugged a slight grin on his maw. "But, I know that's impossible. Gann took another bite of meat and stared at his paws. "Um, why do you ask?"
He snapped up the last piece of meat and watched Ea for her reply.

Ea smirked a bit. "Is it, now?" She turned her head to look him in the eyes. "Is you knowing her entirely impossible?" The look in her eyes was not fierce, but more of a mixture of maternal intent, and some other thing that gave the look intensity. She wanted Gann to really think about it, so she let the question hang for a minute or two. Before he could reply, though, she spoke again. "Think back. What were you doing before you were wondering around in the snow?" Ea had a feeling the two had had some sort of encounter before hand. Why is it they couldn't recognize each other then? Could something have happened between them? She didn't know, and she had a feeling Gann no longer knew, either.

Gann listened to Ea's request and he readily thought about his past, and he thought hard too, this was one subject he had been dwelling on for far too long. What was I doing?
"Before I was wandering through the northern lands, I was...Guarding someone." He shrugged, and looked at Ea with self-disapointment in his eyes. Was that really all he could remember? "But, that's what I've always done, I've always found the wolves who travel alone and I help them. I give them safety when they would have otherwise been in danger. I can't remember when I've done anything else." He whimpered and looked down at his now empty paws. Why can't I remember who she is?
Gann lowered his head to rest on his paws, and watched the storm rage outside the cave mouth. It sure is getting bad out there... He allowed his mind to wander for a moment, closing his eyes and watching the random scenes of his past play out through his thoughts. Repeatedly, Ula's face appeared to him, almost always accompanied with thoughts of fighting or danger. Why is that? Had she been one of his charges? And then it hit him, the sudden brutal realization of why Ula was so familiar. He opened his eyes to look up at Ea, lifting his head as he did so. The laugh that escaped his maw was more of a choking noise than anything. Of course, that explains everything.
"She was my enemy."

The choked laugh was almost disturbing to hear as realization colored Gann's expression. Ea was a tad surprised by his answer. His enemy, huh? What kind of enemy? A mortal one? A passing fight? "What kind of enemy was she? Do you remember that much?" Ea looked over at The sleeping Ula. Did she remember any of this? She didn't seem to be the kind with a vicious intent, but, as cliche as it sounded, looks were deceiving. Ea would defiantly keep an eye on the seemingly innocent she-wolf. It was so odd, though. Wolves that had vicious intent usually gave some kind of subconscious indication of it, but Ula didn't. Amnesia? Maybe. It was a reasonable explanation. However, that meant that if Ula remember anything, the situation between her and Gann could become hostile. It occurred to Ea then that perhaps Ula wasn't the aggressor. Could Gann be the vicious one? Again, it didn't seem so, but he only just remembered part of a seemingly forgotten past. Was there a part of his character that was hidden away?

He tried to remember, but came up with a substantial amount of nothing. "She was after one of my charges but, that's really all I know. That's the only reason I would have fought with her." His voice was strained and the young male couldn't decide whether to take care of his problem while it slept or if he should just skip out all together. But why hasn't she attacked me yet?
Gann rested his head on the floor, covering his muzzle with a large paw. He thought back to the past, before he had been wandering around in the northern territory, back to when he had been a protector. No, she came farther back. He closed his eyes and willed himself to remember the past that he had hidden so far into the depths of his mind. So many wolves rose to his memory, enemies and charges alike. And among them, was Ula. She had always been there, always on the peripheries of his vision. No, not always. Only with a certain one. She had been tailing that one, and she had gotten her prey. He remembered now, his one failure. He had lost sight of her for a second and that's when she had struck. His charge had been downed before Gann could even turn around, the precious life vein severed.
But she had never come to kill him after that. The charge had been her mark, Gann had only been in the way. But he had wanted her dead. He couldn't think of himself ever attacking a female but the proof was all there, he remembered every bit of it. That still doesn't explain why.
He looked up at Ea with a sort of pleading sadness in his eyes. "I need to speak with Ula." He waited for her reply, be it allowance, or denial.

Speak with Ula? Was he planning to dispatch her before she...before she what? Ea looked at him wearily, but his expression wasn't exactly what she expected. She looked into his eyes a moment, then sighed. "Gann, I cannot allow or disallow you to speak with someone. I am not in a position of power over you. If you must speak with her, then speak with her." Ea glanced at her sister, then looked back to Gann, her eyes serious. "But be warned. Neither I nor my sister will allow for undue violence in our presence. If something is to begin between you two, we will be forced to intervene." Her expressions softened a bit. "I know it is, form the start, really none of our business, but we wish to keep at least some peace in our homeland."

Gann smiled at Ea, rising to his feet as he did so. "Don't worry. I won't hurt her." He turned and walked around the fallen caribou until he stood in front of Ula. It was comforting to him as he nuzzled her soft head, however constantly thinking as he did so that this might be his last time if their conversation took a turn for the worse. He layed down in front of her as her breathing quickened and lost its rhythm. She would wake up soon, and he needed to know what he was going to say when she did.
Gann is back. Good... His warmth and closeness was nice and helped to ease her of her previous fears that he wasn't coming back. She opened her eyes, well aware that he knew she had woken. The male's silvery-amber eyes watched her steadily, his large gray head cocked slightly to the side as he studied her in her slumber. A smile came to her maw when she saw the youthful curiosity on his face. "Quite a familiar awakening don't you think?" Her voice was quiet with her grogginess, but she had been awake enough to feel him nuzzle her head and that was to what she was referring. However, his simple reply was haunting in a way. Maybe even threatening witht the way his voice was steady and low, and very unGann-like. It sent chills across Ula' spine.
"We need to talk."

Ea watched after Gann. She didn't enjoy how she felt now, but it was not her problem to directly deal with. Gann walked around the carcass of the downed prey, and was out of dight. Ea stay laying by the cave entrance, now staring out into the blizzard. She couldn't help but hear the words spoken between the two, her ears were to sensitive to ignore the words. She didn't wish to ease drop, but what could she do. She lay her head on her paws and watched the wind and snow rage outside. She glanced over to where Darklight lay, but she was still in slumber. How much longer that was last, she was unsure of.
((Ooc: It's ok. No biggie ^_^))

"Who are you?" Gann's voice was drawn and tired, the voice of one who is being put through torture.
Ula cocked her head to the side, confused by the male's question. "I..I don't understand, Gann. You know who I am."
"No... Ula when--" He cut himself off, desperately searching for the right words. "When I look at you I don't see what I should see." It was vague and unclear, but it was as definite as the young male could make his explanation.
He wasn't making sense, what on earth could he be talking about? "Gann, I still don't understand... What do you mean you don't see--"
"I see my past when I look at you. A past I never wanted to have to remember again, but you're bringing it back and...And I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing..." He knew he must sound crazy, but it was the truth. When he looked at her, he relived his past over and over and over again. And it would destroy him now like it had back then if he didn't do something to stop it. "I don't know why, but you're so familiar Ula. But...When I talk to you, and when I look at you, it feels like I know you from somewhere." It feels like she hunted you down for a year and now she's back to finish the job. No, he wouldn't accept that as the truth. He couldn't... There was no way this Ula could be bad... Is there?
He was hurting, even she could see that, but she didn't know why she felt like it was her fault. There's no way that he can be telling the truth.... Can he? Ula scooted closer to him until their noses touched, and it was like he physically lashed out at her when he pulled away from the contact. It's like... I repulse him now... She whimpered ever so quietly, the two other wolves in the room momentarily forgotten. "Gann.... What's wrong?"
Gann stood and shook his head at her question. "Ula--" He sighed, knowing that he was being cruel and unfair to the young wolfess, but unable to stop himself. "Ula, it would be best if you didn't speak with me anymore..." And with that he turned, and walked back over to the cave mouth, his steely eyes starring coldly out into the storm. "I'll leave when this lets up..." His voice was haggard and tired, and as he laid down, the youth that once played on his features was gone, replaced with the haunting memories of his past. Is this hell...?
So that's it then.... Gann will leave.... Gann will leave and I will once more be left alone... Even as she realized this, the young female was so exhausted she couldn't even whimper for him to come back....

Gann's stress was almost tangible. His words drenched with pain and held back words. Ea truely felt for him then. He was holding back a dark feeling, and he was trying to get Ula to understand, and she wasn't. Two things were apparent then. Either Gann was wrong and perhaps she only reminded him of someone from his past, or Ula had something seriously wrong with her mind. Ea glanced over at her sister and saw she was awake.
Darklight awoke somewhere around the time Gann started questioning Ula. She wasn't quite sure what had brought this on, but she stayed out of it and simply listened. She didn't catch everything, her hearing wasn't as good as Ea's, but she caught the majority of it. Even she could sense the pain in Gann's words, and the complete confusion in Ula's. What an odd night.
When Gann came back into view, he looked older. His expression was worn and tired. "Gann, come and sit." Ea stood, offering to escort him to the fire. He looked as if his own anguish was crushing him. As soon as he was settled, she would sing, or at least hum. The atmosphere here was not a good one.

Gann followed Ea to the fire, however his body was numb to the warmth. His body had settled into an ice covered rut and it refused to try and climb the sides back out. He curled into a ball, his silvery-amber eyes starring blankly into the fire as silence overcame him.
It was her fault. She knew it was all her fault that he was hurting and yet she just laid there and did nothing. How worthless are you Ula....? The question ricocheted around her mind for the next few minutes until she fell into a deep sleep.
It was dark and the moon was hidden behind thick, stormy looking clouds. She was hunting something but she couldn't tell what it was, it still evaded her every advance. But then her quarry came into view, and just as suddenly as she had seen it, the figure disappeared. But not before she could see what it was, a tawny wolf, a small wolf but still male. If she could only speed up a little then she could catch him....

Darklight watched as her sister walked the distant Gann to the fire. He looked as though he had just seen his best friend murdered. She sighed, and stood, making her way behind the carcass where Ula lay. The female was already asleep, but she didn't care. Without being so loud as to attract attention from the other two, she leaned over and spoke into Ula's ear. "Hey, wake up." Her tone was less than friendly, and more demanding than anything. Ea was maybe too soft hearted for this kind of thing.
Ea sat down beside Gann as he curled himself into a ball of raged and forlorn fur. He had none of the whelping-like vigor that, only a few hours ago, radiated from his being. She knew right now that nothing she could say would do any good. So, she decided to hum a song instead. Though the gift wasn't quite as strong without the words, it still had a good bit of power behind it. She didn't hold it back as much as she had before, but still didn't let it come in full force. She gazed into the fire and let each soft note reverberate. The song rose and fell in a melodious tempo, one that was akin to a lullaby. It was soft, and gentle.
