"Let's be off then. I'm sure Lord Charon will be happy to be rid of the throne. I've noticed he isn't as lively as he used to be." He said, beginning the trek to the Tower, where the couple's thrones awaited.
The regent had been far too busy to wish his niece a happy birthday that morning. He hadn't even managed to sit to rest his aching paws before some other matter that required his attention called him away. Charon had made it a point to stay on the bottom floor of the tower in case Lacrimosa decided to come back early. He no longer worried about her being on her own. The young, naive, crybaby had grown into a she-wolf who could stand her ground when she had to, in both battle and politics.
As he reminisced on all the events that led up to this day, the Druin let out a long sigh and rubbed his eyes. When he was younger and his father still drew breath, he thought it would be great fun to be Emperor; wantonly killing, raping, and eating whenever one wished. But with age came wisdom, and he realized that his father had run the Empire into the ground, only barely keeping order during his reign. Charon, now 51 years of age, feeling hundreds of years older from the stresses of undoing the damage his father caused, now could not wait for the day his niece took his place and he could live his life out in what peace the violent land of Giaku would grant him.
Just then, Charon heard a light metallic ding, which continued in a rhythm much like footsteps, echo throughout the halls of the Tower. He looked up from his memories, seemingly-blind eyes focusing on the two smaller figures that now approached him. He would have wagged his tail in happiness at their arrival, but the spiked behemoth would have caused quite a bit of damage to the room and the people in it with the stone-like club that rested on its end.
"Happy birthday, Lacri, and good day to you, Ammon. You two seem to be inseparable as of late"
