"You shouldn't give up, but, you have plenty of time." He shook his head as she brushed off the topic. This one, she reminded him of the pups he loved to entertain. She bounced and pounced, seemingly without a care in the world. He longed for a life like that, but, circumstances had driven him from puppy hood straight to the bleakness of adulthood. He was barely four years old, still a young adult, barely more than a pup by some standards. For three of those years he had lived without a pack.
"Tell me, what kind of stories do you enjoy? Tales of Heroes of old? Stories of Gods and mortal beasts? Epic Ballads of battle, victory and romance?"

YEah saying tha twas so much easier. He asked another question and she gave a snort. 'I don't like to sit and wait for stories. I prefer to just run.' Some stories got too long winded and she never could hear the entire thing to learn morals. She paused to give a grin, 'Real life is so much better than pretend.'

"Oh? What if I told you I could make the story into short pieces, telling a bit at a time. Even if your attention is short and the story long, we can enjoy it more than ever if I told it over a few days, in short exciting bursts. Like sprinting after a rabbit." He chuckled, the previous dark mood forgotten.
"And yes, real life is more fascinating than the world of make believe. But, the world of fantasy can sometimes give our own life a touch of mystery. What If. That is what my mother called it. Stories give us the prospect of What If it happened."

Zoi rolled her eyes and looked back at him. 'You don't take no for an answer very lightly, do you?' She shook her head, 'When we get to Shinkou and Akeru, don't you worry. There will be plenty who would love to sit and listen to your stories.' She just wouldn't happen to be one of them. Boooooring...

"I don't like the sound of no. I don't particularly like being told it either. I'm sure my tales will be appreciated, but, I like to have as many listeners as possible, that way the story can be passed on. Stories gain power through tellings, each time the tale is told it gains something. They grow, like pups in the spring time." He laughed pouncing suddenly on a mouse that had poked it's nose above the snow. The small creature squirmed and squeaked before he released it.

Zoi paused to look back at him. Then laughter spilled from her throat, 'I think you just want to show your powers off. Looking to snag a few mates there, Fen?' She asked. Of course she was purely joking, but with the way he was going on about the stories you never knew.

He stopped at her question, though he knew it was a joke, he still didn't have an answer, not one he had thought about anyway.
"I am not yet ready for a long relationship, and I am not a male who is interested short relations. I am more interested in a fulfilled heart than a satisfied body."

He answered anyways and in a more serious tone. She gave a laugh and shook her head. 'Not with that attitude you won't find something.' Shaking her head again she ran, jumped and dove head first into another snow pile. When she lifted her head, snow was dusting her entire top of the head and nose. 'Where are you from?' She asked, 'Been traveling around?'

"I almost a year with my pack on the borderlands. A small pack, only a dozen wolves when I was last there. My sister is still there. It's been almost three years since I left." He paused at the end. "I guess I ended up telling you something painful in the end. But it doesn't matter, I'll go back someday, when I can finally settle down, to see her, and take her with me if she wants to go."
His hope that someday he could find a place that would accept him for everything kept him going. The hope that he could find peace kept him alive.

He came from a small pack and that was some time ago. She watched him briefly then shrugged. 'You'll like our pack. Its huge.' And huge didn't quite discover it. 'Well, actually there's two packs. You can join either pack but they are sister packs, so you're free to move between the two. Really, we're one big happy family with two different names.' She gave a wide grin.

"Maybe in the future I will join your pack, for now however, I travel. Besides, your two packs would be the first to attack those monsters if they were to try and take the land again." He could not bring himself to actually say the name of that vile race of demons. "They tried to kill me with no thought. I cannot face them." he muttered it quietly, barely audible.

He just wanted to travel, but be near others. That was slightly understandable. The lands were big enough for drifters like himself to try and settle. She stopped and looked at him. Her brows were close together as she regarded him. 'We've never instigated war, Fen. We protect what is ours. But attacking Giaku, if thats who you are talking about, for their land would be stupid.' She shook her head, 'The war was horrible but it was necessary to protect what was ours.' Though no one could truly say how it all had started. But Zoi was certain her alphas hadn't just gotten bored. 'You can go on my word as Beta of Akeru that that was not our intentions.'

"Perhaps your pack doesn't start it, but, they will always be the primary target. You see me like this, perhaps you think I'm just a storyteller, a normal wanderer. You haven't seen me fight." He looked back at her, his expression changed, his eyes lit with a fire. "When it comes to fighting, I fight only to protect. However, when I fight very rarely do my opponents live. I become a monster. If ever I faced off with one of the Giaku, I would show you all something I myself fear greatly. I am a normal wolf, yet, I have been called a demon by those who have dared to invoke my anger."
He didn't know why he told her this, but, he did. Once he had finished his eyes softened. "I become a beast like something you see in a nightmare. I don't want anyone to see that."

He felt himself different and it was obvious he came from a small pack. Her lips twitched slightly. 'You think so little of yourself.' She said with a laugh, then shook her head. 'I think you need to speak with the members of our pack. We do have demons in there. Some shapeshifters. Our Alpha of Akeru has the ability to turn into a human-like creature. His mate has the ability to heal with her voice. Not to mention we do have some that have come from other lands to be safe, though they have powers we may never understand.'
SHe smiled, 'Im glad you fight to protect. Thats the only way too fight. However, you can't avoid all fights simply because others may not understand your skills.'

"Others like myself? I had not heard of this. Your Alpha Female can heal? I also heal. My Empathy Spell is limited, but, I have saved lives with it before." He didn't mention the personal cost to his body, the three long weeks he had spent recovering after healing one sick wolf pup whose loner parents could only watch as the disease ravaged his body. He'd had to eat more food than ever before, but, the pup had been mostly cured by the time he left. His body had looked emaciated and death-like for months after that.
"I had heard only that Akeru and it's sister pack were the mortal enemies of the Giaku. I've encountered the Giaku only once before. Back when I first left my pack. They thought I was part of one of their enemy's packs and tore my throat out. If the Light and Air spirits hadn't merged with me, I would have died."
