(OOC: This is my first time typing a story. I would appreciate constructive criticizm from anyone.)
The spirit of air floated lazily, yet purposefully, in the sky, making small breezes as she passed trees and shrubs. She was going to her favorite place, a small clearing hidden in the mountains, surrounded by a forest. There, the spirit loved to make the wind blow, to hear the trees rustle in the breeze. It was there she had planned to meet rain today, to play a bit and just be away from the more serious spirits. Just thinking of what they were going to do, she became excited and speed faster, making a bigger wind. Soon she was among the snow-capped mountains, where a light mist hung about, the trademark of her friend, Rain.
She came closer to the spot, but was pulled back suddenly. Air turned around to see Rain floating next to her. "Why are you still up here?" asked Air. "Look." Answered Rain. Rain thinned the mist between Air and the clearing. To her surprise, there was a young boy with gray hair sitting on a rock. He had a book in his hand and a pencil and it looked, to Air, like he was sketching in it...

"Done." Selth put his sketchbook in his bag. He had just finished drawing the sky, a misty sky with the sun just barely shining through it. He then looked up at that sky. He thought he saw something up there. "Huh? Oh well." Leaning back on the rock he was sitting on, Selth put his hand behind his head to stare at the fast clearing sky. Soon it was brilliant blue, like the kind you find in pictures.
”I wonder what's happening back in the city” he thought to himself. “Well, not my problem now. It's time's like this I live for, times when I can look at the sky in hope, not dread. Times when I can be myself and not worry about life judging me. Times when the future looks bright, not gloomy. I can't believe I've make it this far. I'm a lot luckier than I thought. I will put the past away. Everyone has to face down their demons. I will not give in to the darkness in my heart. I...”
His monologue was interrupted by the abrupt appearance of two little girls, nine years old, by the look of it. One was dressed in a green nightdress with gold-brown hair and had green eyes. The other was dressed similarly, except the dress was ocean blue and her hair was brown with blue eyes. He sheathed his sword, which he had unsheathed, and jumped down from the rock.
"Hello. Are you lost?" he asked them. "No, we come here all the time." "Oh, okay. Um, you want me to leave?" "Of course not!" "Ok." "You seem smart. Where are you from?" "Nemura." "Oh....oh! Where is that?" "Don't worry. You don't have to hide it. You sound like you know where Nemura is and what happened to it." "Oh, so you could see it." Said the green one. "Yeah..." Said the blue one. "Don’t worry about it. My name is Selth. What are yours?" "I'm called Aero" Said the one dressed in green. "This is Aqua." "Hello!" Answered Aqua. "Those are good names. You know, I've always been fascinated with the elements." "Really?!!" "Yes, why so eager?" "We know a lot about them. It's been said that if you appease them, they will give you some of their powers." Selth looked at them with intrest. "Really?" He asked. "You know, I wish I could appease them. But then, I wouldn't have anything to do with those powers. Hm." He pondered for a bit. "So, I guess I don't really need them.” “ You two hungry?" He asked, completely changing the topic. "Yes!” They replied Enthusiastically.

Selth then produced a large blanket and some food from the bag on his back. They all sat down and started eating food that Selth brought. He had bread, some water, some cheese, some ham, and some herbs.
"You seem smart, Selth." Said Aero. "I don't think so. I just understand better." He responded a little humbly. "So you are smart!" Responded Aqua. "If you think I am." He said with a shrug. "What do you do in your spare time?" "I'm a wanderer. I wander." He replied with a small chuckle. "Why do you wander?" Aero asked light-heartedly.
But Selth became quiet and he looked down sadly at the blanket. A few seconds and it became obvious that she had hit a sensitive part. "You don't have to answer." Said Aqua. "No.... I don't know the answer." Selth answered quietly.
Suddenly, a roar resounded through the forest and a heavy, dark mist formed. Out of the shadows came withering masses of rotting flesh, each one with features identifiable as arms, legs, and a head. And in each head was embedded a crystal. Some of the crystals were blue, some were green. Each one was wielding a long, sharp dagger. One of them charged at Aero, it's blade ready to rip and stab. "Ahhh!!!!!!!!"
A resounding clang was heard throughout the forest. When Aero looked up, Selth was over her, his own sword stabbed deep into the monster's supposed head. The monster collapsed onto the ground, then it lost it's form and changed into a giant pile of mold. "Aero, Aqua, run!" "But..." "GO!!!!"

Aero and Aqua ran of into the forest, leaving Selth to contend with about 15 monsters. Selth drew his other katana and held them both aloft. A monster charged at him, it's blade ready to stab. But Selth parried its blow to the right and slashed off its head with a well-aimed sword swing. The thing collapsed to the ground 5 more came. Two tried to stab him at the same time, but he jumped back, knocked their blades out of their hands and in to the air with a kick and stabbed both in their stomachs.
Selth's cloak was cut from behind as six more encircled him. One slashed sideways at him, another one swung its blade down. Selth ducked, then rolled to the side, jumped back up, slashing one from the crotch through its head. Then he spun and parried a stab to the left and cut another in half. He blocked a strike that was going for his forehead and cut the monster into four with an X slash. The last nine came for him. He ran at them, jumped, and brought his swords both down on one, cutting it into 3 pieces. Selth jumped as another one swung its dagger at him, only to feel the pain of a dagger embedding itself into his arm. He looked and saw that the dagger had been thrown at him. His left arm was disabled from it, and he drooped the sword in that hand. Using his right hand, he removed the dagger and threw it at another monster, hitting it squarely in it's green crystal. In an explosion of wind, Selth was knocked of his feet. He found himself next to his Staff and bow and arrow. He had lost his katana, but he picked up the staff in order to face the four left after the explosion. They were upon him, and he quickly parried their stabs and struck two of their heads of. He swept the next one and spun around, cutting halfway into the chest of the other one. Then he brought the end of the staff down on the blue crystal in the head of the one on the floor. Water sprung up out of it, then the monster faded.
Exhausted, Selth picked up his Katanas and sheathed them at his side. He was about to pick up his Bow and Arrow when he heard a scream coming from the forest. "Aqua!"

He rushed into the forest, jumping over rocks and fallen trees. He saw, through the trees, another, smaller clearing. He saw Aqua and Aero, and he saw another monster, larger than the others. As he ran toward them, he watched the monster pick up Aero and pull its dagger back, ready to stab through her.
...only one shot at this...
Selth reached the clearing and jumped at the monster. A scream was heard.
...Got it...
Aqua watched as Aero was dropped to the ground, unhurt. In her place, on the dagger, was Selth. Selth had jumped into the way of the dagger and had been stabbed through the lungs. The monster collapsed, a sword in its head.Selth landed on his feet and fell, to the ground, kneeling. His vision started to fail, but as he closed his eyes, he saw two women, much older than Aero or Aqua, walking towards him.

"...Where am I..." Selth looks at the ground beneath him. It is orange and barren, illuminated by a strange light that came from nowhere. Indeed, the sky above was blacker than the blackest of nights. He got up and looked around. In the distance, there was a purple flash of light, the kind you would see in a thunderstorm. But this one provided no comfort. All around him the air was stiller than death. It was as if the world had come to an end. And then there was the light, the strange orange light. It looked as if it came from above him. It illuminated all around him, but beyond it, all was dark. He began to walk, and the light stayed above him. He noticed that, no matter what he did, even if her ran a long distance, the air never moved. He never felt the breeze, the wind. In the distance was a mountain, Illuminated between lightning flashes. At least, it looked like lightning. But there was no sound. The only thing he heard was the sound of his talking, his walking, and his breathing.
"...Heh, heh, heh,..."
A laugh came from nowhere. "Who is that? Show yourself!"
”...You will give into the darkness. You cannot stop it.It will consume everything. You will be its vessel. You will fail. You cannot win...” The gravely voice continued to repeat those words.
"Stop that! You don't know me! The darkness will never win!" He looked down and stared at the ground. "I can't let it win."
...Heh, Heh, Heh... ...You think you can resist me... ...You don't know the full power of the darkness... ...Let me enlighten you!
The still air exploded into a gust so powerful it knocked Selth off his feet. But he did not fall on solid ground. He fell into mud. And he began to sink.
"Hey! What are you doing!"
"...The darkness shall have you..."
"...Heh, heh, heh, heh...
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha...
HA,HA, HA, HA,HA!
STUPID HUMAN! YOU THINK YOU CAN MATCH THE STREGNTH OF MY DARKNESS!? HA,HA,HA,HA! YOUR SOUL WILL BE CONSUMED IN THE ETERNAL FLAMES OF HELL! YOU WILL BE CRUSHED!”
Selth looked up at the black sky and stopped struggling against the mud. A picture of his family flashed into his mind. He remembered his goal, his destiny.
"...I walk into the dark, carrying the light of tomorrow...
...SO I CAN NEVER LET YOU WIN!
Another gust of wind blew through the land, but this one was different. It was warm. It was good.
Selth closed his eyes and embraced it.

"...In the darkest of dark..."
Selth opened his eyes to find he was floating. Before him were all the evils in the world. In less than a second, he saw the world as the cruelest of places, a dark sphere being consumed by the blackness of the human soul, a blackness he had just confronted. His head was filled with the sound of the miseries of the world, so loud that he had to cover his ears and close his eyes. So loud, he almost despaired.
"...Light must shine..."
As soon as that voice spoke, the chaos around him ceased. He felt the ground against his back and opened his eyes. He sat up and looked around, discovering he was in a small clearing surrounded by forest. A heavy mist hung around.
…A scream…
Across a wide clearing he saw a monster picking up a little girl in a green dress. He watched as the monster pulled back a large dagger and prepared to stab her. In a flash, he saw a boy jump into the way of the dagger, cutting into the monster’s head with his sword. A boy with gray hair and a faded green cloak.
Him.
