Hawk again planted a loving, wolfish kiss to his lover's lips. The completey bliss that coursed through him made his heart skip a few beats. After the embrace he smiled softly at his mate. Yet despite such a joyous moment, he felt sleep gripping at his mind. He tried his best to fight it off, not wanting to fall to slumber so soon. Yet it was obvious as to the battle he raged against the ghosts of slumber. His eyes would close slowly before snapping open. Softly Hawk looked to Istariel and nuzzled her sleepily, hoping contact with his beloved would awaken him some.
Zues stiffled a yawn before giving in and letting it pass forth. His pearly fangs glinted in the light as he continued to express his fatigue. After a moment he shook his head and muttered. "Goodness me." Slowly the mascu bowed his head to Ammolite. "Well my friend, it has been more joyous talking with you. Yet now I have a dream to go chase within the chamber I have been lent so graciously. I hope to see you on the morrow." Slowly he rose to his feet and bowed his head before striding off.

Istariel, too, felt the trance begin to transform into a dream. Her vision became hazier, her eyes drooped, and though she still felt the surge of delight, it was buried beneath a layer of sleepiness. She fell into the deep world of dreams (though none could possibly surpass the joy of reality) beside her newfound mate, her lover, her prince. She fell asleep around the same time he did. The last thing she felt before she lost consciousness to sweet slumber was the remnants of Hawk's kiss and the warmth of the closeness of his body. Then, she was asleep.
"Good night," Ammolite said expressionlessly, watching Zues wander off. She too felt the grip of fatigue, having worn herself out with all the stressful emotions. She slowly wandered through the tunnels until she found an empty chamber, not caring about its location. She slumped onto the "nest" provided, comforted by the softness but devastated that she was alone. I did not expect to be so torn in my emotions, she reflected. For one, I truly am happy that Hawk is happy. But I am also pained by his indifference towards me. And the fact that I'll have to face my two good friends tomorrow...and be forced to hide my emotions. From now on until forever, I must wear a mask. I must never take it off. From now on until forever, I have to live a lie. That was Ammolite's last thought before she drifted off into a blessedly dreamless sleep (for any dream would be better than the reality).

"Rise and shine ole' chap! It's a bright sunny morning outside and the rabbits are nice and plump! Time for you to get off your lazy golden arse and be ab- I DARE SAY HAWK WHAT THE DEVIL ARE YOU DOING!?" Phoebus' voice had echoed down the hall into Hawk's chambers, heralding his approach. When he flew into the room and saw the golden mascu asleep by Istariel he had exclaimed the last part of his sentance. Quickly he flew over to the warrior and landed atop his head. Roughly the bird of prey pecked the mascu between the eyes in an attempt to awaken them.
Hawk awoke abruptly from the rude awakening. Absently he batted the bird from his head, mumbling softly. "Gerrofme." Slowly the mascu opened his eyes and looked to his newfound mate. With a lovingly smile he planted a lick upon her maw. It was the next morning. Despite the attempts to rouse them, Hawk simply wanted to remain in bed with his lover. Yet it could not last forever. If Istariel had not been awaken by the words of Phoebus, the golden wolf would gently nose her. Softly he whispered into her ear. "Wake up my love. Do you plan to stay in bed all day?"

Istariel awoke to the chorus (sarcasm) of a bird interrupting her sweet slumber. She jerked awake and stared at Phoebus as if unsure whether to yell at him or laugh at him. She decided to do neither and ignored him, turning and smiling up at Hawk, licking his maw in return. "Take that." She giggled a little and stirred, rising slowly. "Of course not. It's only the morning. Hawk, I fear you suffer from exaggeration." She smiled and gradually arose from the furs, although she wanted to stay there with Hawk forevermore. Still, duty calls. "Today," she said to Hawk, smirking slightly, "today you get to meet my parents."

Phoebus flew over and perched upon Istariel's back. His head cocked slightly to the side as he looked between the two. "Either of you two care to explain what is going on? Why were you sharing a bed? And why is Hawk meeting your parents?"
Hawk too ignored the bird of prey, not quiet awake enough to deal with the harsh humor offered forth. Slowly he rose to his paws and shook his silken, golden fur out of habit. Softly he nuzzled his mate before smiling at her lovingly. At the prospect of meeting his in-laws the mascu felt himself ever more joyful. He wanted to know as much about his lover's life as she would allow. After tenderly lapping her cheek once more, the golden wolfen smiled at Istariel. "I can hardly wait. Lead on my love."

Istariel beamed at Phoebus, feeling too ecstatic to be irritated by his idiosyncrasies. "Isn't it obvious?" she asked rhetorically, before turning back to Hawk, eyes alight. "They'll be a bit surprised, but they'll like you," she promised. "Father loves anyone who'll fight for himself, and Mother practically melts at chivalrous behavior. Both qualities you have in plenty." She nuzzled him affectionately before walking out of his chamber, preparing to enter the winding tunnels and find the king and queen.

Hawk smiled and returned the nuzzle just as affectionately. He found himself flustered by the compliments. As he watched his beloved stride from the chamber, he followed after her quickly. Once they were side by side, he could not help but nip at her ear playfully. Ever since the previous night his heart had been bouyant. He felt as if nothing could spoil such a pefect and blissful time. Finally he had done one thing for himself, and yet in truth it was not souly for his benefit. He knew that Istariel was as happy at their unification as he, or atleast that was how he thought. After the nib he smiled at her dreamily and strode beside her whenever the width of the tunnels would allow it.
Phobus looked at the two from atop Istariel. His head cocked again to the side as he processed everything in a mind. Finally a not-so understanding "Oooooh" passed his beak. For some time the bird of prey was silently before he exclaimed out. "OOOOH!"

"Sounds like someone's just figured it out," Istariel said amusedly to Hawk, listening to Phoebus's apparent epiphany. "I wonder if that's the kind of reaction we'll get from the others - " She suddenly remembered her brief encounter with Ammolite yesterday and fell silent, stricken. She was so distraught. I don't understand. She acted as if we had gone behind her back and purposefully broken her heart. I hope she's feeling better. I couldn't stand it if she disapproved of our match, though I can't imagine why she would...well, she's had a rough time lately. Still. She glanced guiltily at Hawk. I can't let him know. He'd be so upset to hear we might have hurt Ammolite in some way. She means so much to him - to me...

Softly Hawk looked over to his mate. Seeing looking at her, he let a warm smile form across his lips. His head turned slightly to the side as he continued to gaze into her eyes, his own portals into his love-filled soul. When he spoke, his voice was dripping with passion and affection. "What hun?" His ear still drooped with the ring that she had given him only days before. Bent extremity along with his cocked head made for a most comical sight. Yet he was snapped out of his daze when Phoebus bent over from Istariel and tapped the golden wolf between the eyes, muttering something about love-sick fools.

Istariel smiled sweetly and reassuringly at him, loving how concerned he was. He may have looked a little strange, with her ring in his ear, but she thought it was very becoming on him. She responded to his concern, "Nothing, m'love. I just hope I can find my way back." She grinned at him to show she was joking. "Never fear, though, I will. I've lived here all my life, after all..." She wound through the tunnels expertly, ignoring Phoebus's grumblings. "You're just jealous," she said haughtily to the bird.
Ammolite had awoken, feeling much better than she had before, but she was still very unwilling to see Istariel and Hawk. She wanted to avoid them both for the rest of her life, but she knew that was both impossible and ridiculous. She was debating whether or not to visit the cave-demon monarchs, where she knew her newly-mated friends were headed now, for it might be comforting to see the king and queen's shock. But she decided it would be too painful and she was not a fan of inflicting pain on herself when she can help it. She chose instead to find her father, who was hopefully feeling better. Ammolite stood up and stretched, her amulet glittering a little in the half-light of her chamber. She looked at it askance and thought, You can heal others' wounds, but why can't you cure me of the pain I feel? She sighed and wandered out, heading for Fiendark's chamber. Daddy lost his love too, when Mother died. I wonder if this emotional misfortune is heriditary.

Hawk smiled at the reassuring words she spoke. He even let a warm laugh cross over his lips as Phoebus reassured Istariel he was not jealous. Gently the mascu paused his newfound mate in her stride. Lovingly he looked into her rose colored eyes with his own golden gaze. The mascu leaned forth and placed a wolfish kiss upon her lips. After the embrace he rubbed his cheek to her's and smiled softly. It was then that he let her continue her pace, letting his voice speak up. "So my love. What are your...our parents like?" He felt a surge of glee at the word 'our'. Even if it was only by matehood, the prospect of having a parental figure sparked yet another joy into him.

Istariel returned his kiss, silently exuberant over his affections. She blinked at the word "our," and smiled lovingly into Hawk's golden eyes. This will take some getting used to. But it's the good kind of getting used to. "I can't really sum either of them up in a few words," she replied, adding jauntily, "You'll just have to find out for yourself. We're almost there anyhow. I hope you like them; I somehow think you will." Before she could say any more, however, she almost ran into someone else coming from the opposite direction in the tunnel. Opening her mouth to rebuke them (she was the princess, after all), she halted suddenly, beaming. "Ammolite! Fancy running into you here...literally..."
Ammolite looked at them, her eyes indistinguishable. She was both embarrassed at her clumsiness and horrified at her ill luck. "Oh, Istariel, Hawk...how are you? Fine morning, isn't it." She nodded several times. "Yes, I can tell by the way Phoebus looks so irritable. You two must be in an awfully good mood." She smiled as she babbled. I have to get out of here. "I'd love to stay and chat, but I've got to...find my father. I promised." She edged past Istariel informally. "Have a nice day!" she called back as she hurried down the tunnel. Well, that was...awkward. Well done, Ammolite.

Hawk watched the whole happening with a confused look. Ignorance is bliss it would seem. Blankely he watched the retreating form of Ammolite before gazing to his beloved with a quirk in his brow. Almost immediately after he voiced the question on his mind, Phoebus pecked him roughly between the eyes, telling him to be quiet. The golden warrior softly rubbed the sore into his lover's neck, deciding now was not the right time to bring up the subject. Yet he certainly intended to once Phoebus was not around to bother him and Istariel.

Ammolite did not look back as she hurred away from the loving couple. She did not stop her rush until she had smelled the first ray of sunlight. That only brought to mind the conversation she once had with Hawk about the scent of the sun. She could sense its warmth, and felt comforted slightly knowing that this was one place Istariel could not go. This was the one refuge, the one place that was hers, and only hers...she wouldn't have to share it with the princess. I'm not bitter. Istariel's my friend, almost like my sister. But why does she have to have everything I don't; both parents present all her life, friends galore, anything she could ever want, and now... Ammolite refused to think any more. She did not want to harbor any resentment towards her dear friend. She sat in the end of the tunnel, feeling the sunlight's warmth on her fur, rejoicing in the simple touch.
Istariel sighed as she watched Ammolite hasten away from them. Could it be I'm already regretting this? But she looked at Hawk and her heart melted, and she knew she could not. Ever. "Let's not keep the king and queen waiting," Istariel suggested, moving through the tunnel swiftly. They had already delayed; hopefully her parents had not already moved from their throne chamber.
The throne chamber was easily the most majestic of caves, even including Dalia's Lake. It was far more grand and grandiose than even that, with clear pools of water that reflected the light of a million end of the hall arose two lengthy thrgemstones, all of which glittered like faraway stars. At the ones, carved expertly from marble and imprinted with shimmering diamonds. On the visitors' left was a huge, impressive white tiger with a bushy silver-white lion's-mane. His eyes were an impassive, quiet orange. Folded on his back were three pairs of enormous eagle-wings, though he only had a single tail. The king surveyed the procession including his daughter without much emotion, patiently awaiting an explanation.
In the throne beside the kingly tiger reclined a coyote - a beautiful and extravagant coyote, but a coyote nonetheless. This was obviously the queen, Istariel's mother. She contradicted herself, for as a coyote she appeared at first plain and ragged, but she was so dressed and groomed so as to look anything but. She wore necklaces and earrings; anklets and rings; and even her long, sinuous tail was pierced at the tip with a golden ring with a ruby. She looked at the visitors and quirked one eyebrow. "Istariel...? You're a wolf today, I observe. Any particular reason why..." Her eyes (a lovely violet color) flickered towards Hawk and Phoebus before returning to her daughter.

Hawk felt himself humbled before the presence of the royals. By the time his mind caught up with him, he found himself bowing toward the monarchs. The movements was fluid and withheld his own majesties. The silk-like, golden threads of his pelt moved across his sinewy, rock-state muscles. The tattoo set upon his right foreleg that so magnificently resembled the supposed "Eye of Ra" gleamed within the reflective luminosity of the chamber. His golden eyes held their gaze upon the floor as he awaited permission to rise. The wolfen mused to himself at how he had not acted thusly since his days as an Elite. He recalled the few times he had been brought forth before their commanding officer. The memories of the pain inflicted to those who did not bow in fealty sent visible shivers through his spine.
Phoebus, however, was not quite so courteous. One might blame the fact that he was ignorant as to the governmental power these two very different creatures held. Or an equally likely of reasons would be his wiry attitude. Either way, the golden hawk only offered a quirk of his head as he watched Hawk bend forth from his perch on Istariel's back. At the vocals spoken from from the female coyote, his attention snapped forth with the ferocity of a bull whip. Silence captivated the little bird as he seemed to contemplate as to what to say or do. Yet finally, his own voice passed over his beak. However, the notes were not as harsh as usual and spoke in a surprisingly dignified manor. "I suppose you two would be the kind Istariel's parents? Please to make your acquaintance. I am Phoebus, guardian to this fine mascu who so foolishly embarrasses himself."
