It was a bright summer day, one on which the flowers basked in glorious sunlight and birds called out across the cheery skies. Clouds spotted the sky in long wispy streaks, allowing the sun to reach it's light to just about where ever it desired. Even the thick canopy had difficulty keeping shadowy areas in which to keep cool in the summer warmth. The bubbling streams laughed as it flowed across the pebbles it had been smoothing out for as long as there was water flowing. No matter how much the sun would shine, this river kept it's cold, refreshing temperatures. This was the reason one such animal had chosen her choice resting spot amongst the shallows of the river bed. However, this wolfess of a strange variety was not to be seen lying atop the rocks, allowing the smaller fish in the shallow water to nibble at her fur as her disturbance had lifted up hidden moss and fungus.
Instead, her form could be seen running at a high speed along the shore, water spraying up like miniature geysers behind her paws and minnows scattering in fear of this larger being. As fast as she wanted to go, her speed was delayed by the smooth pebbles as they moved aside beneath her paws. Her white pelt was sleek with water, front talons digging into the rocks in an attempt to gain speed. Kyryuu, as this wolf hybrid was dubbed, turned her head breifly to the side, catching a glimpse of the large form that persued her. Wasting not a breath to even let loose a gasp at how much distance it had gained, she plunged onward, heart racing with both fatigue and fear.
She was used to being persued at times, for her wolfen appearance and dragon-like appendages caused for one of the two species to tease and chase her in childhood. This...this creature however, wasn't something she had expected to pop out from the bushes on such a peaceful day. There were some others like her in the pack of Shinkou and so she thought she had at last found peace, but other troubles obviously plagued these serene packlands.
The deep, screeching cry of the monster behind her brought Kyryuu back to the reality of the situation at hand. Why? Why was this beast chasing her? Why was it here to begin with?
A shadow from above caused her to panic, slowing in her speed for a breif second of hesitation. Large thing spines that appeared to be the demon's hand, came down and dug into the pebbles of the river bed with a grating sound and spraying clear water everywhere. Kyryuu let out a thin yelp when she felt the long fingers closing around her. Her wings streatched out in fear, pulling the flesh to it's extent when she tried to lift off. Her heart sunk deeper in her chest, having to remind herself that her wings had never been strong enough to ever lift her off the ground.
The spindly demon gave another shrieking cry from it's curved beak, large white orbs that were it's eyes pointed towards the prey it had cornered. Kyryuu let loose a fearful howl that was choked off as the demon pulled her closer along the ground, dragging with her more of the river's stones and moss. Kyryuu closed her pupilless eyes, believing that this was the end. She had no strength to escape nor even combat such a beast, something she had never concidered doing in her life. The time passed slowly, stone grating upon stone and rough skin as it toyed with her emotions, dragging out the moments purposefully to savor in the fear that eminated from the white wolfess it held within it's claw.
(First post in a series that will add to the mystery that is the demon scourge, related to another plot of mine, but doesn't need participation in to understand everything, know what I mean? n_n; )
