No matter what you think about guns Ame, I'm going to hae to disagree. I dont NEED a gun. Never before have I been threatened, or has someone come into my house intending to harm me. The thing with the gun laws here is it PREVENTS people who shouldnt have guns from having them (Not that some of them dont get them anyways)
You may not feel it in your city or your state. But wherever I go, no matter where it is, I feel safe enough to walk around carrying no weapon. I dont need a knife or a gun. I'm safe. People dont NEED guns unless they're in the [grrr]ing army.
Besides Ame...dont you try not to condone violence? Dont you think your view is a little hypocritical?

Ok its one thing to have guns for hunting animals..thats okay. I think what Blitzy is trying to say is that..you shouldnt have to have a gun walking down the street. I do believe in the right to bare arms, and if I want to carry my gun just in case (because I am a woman, and say I am walking down the street at night) I want to be safe. I have the right to defend myself...But it is an unfair fight if the mofo has a gun and all I have is pepperspray. We need it to protect oursleves yes, but everyday we dont need a gun.

Hahahaha I hope we all have the right to "bare arms"!
Mugger: -rolls up sleeve- Gimme yer money, I've got a bare arm right har'. Victim: -rolls up both sleeves- Well, I have two!
Z meant "bear arms," of course. Sorry, Z, I'm not picking on ya, but that image that popped into my mind was just too funny. And then, of course, there is the issue of whether we have the right to arm bears xP
Okay I'll take my frivolity out of this serious discussion now.

Actually, I do have something serious to say. I'm not gonna get into the whole gun debate, but for the initial "is Canada racist?!" question, I'm gonna have to say that many Canadians are probably as "racist" as many Americans are. Of course, my definition of "racist" is not "OMG hate crime/unfair discrimination" but rather "makes judgments based on race." Hell, I've done it; I get nervous if I have to walk past a gang of young black men on a city street. It's as Kaoru says, everyone's racist in some way.
So I have to say, from my personal opinion, that your statistic, Blitzy, of "only 7% of Canadians are racist" is, well, suspect. I mean, where did that statistic come from? Someone went around with a survey knocking on people's doors and politely asking, "Are you racist?" Is it just the percentage of Canadians who have been proven in court cases to commit hate crimes or discriminate in important decisions (e.g., denying a black person a job even though they're well qualified for it and giving the job to a white person who's less qualified)? The first way is just ridiculous, and the second would yield highly inaccurate results (there are sure to be some hardcore racists who just haven't been caught yet). It just seems a little out of the blue.
My point is, trying to label an entire country as racist or not is completely ridiculous. I understand your anger, Blitzy, but while I agree with everyone that Canadians have never shown a predominantly racist streak, I can't agree with you, Blitzy, when you say it's one of the "least racist" countries in the world. How do you judge what's more racist than something else? Are hate crimes and racist thoughts equally "racist"? It's just a completely unfair (not to mention stupid) question. You can say America is racist, and you'd be right. But you could say that America is not racist, and you'd also be completely right. You just can't prove anything.
I guess I'm with Kaoru, then. There's no real profit to discussing whether Canada is racist or not. The people who've said this are completely ridiculous, and the people who believe them even more so, but I honestly think it'll all be forgotten before you can blink. I know this angers you, Blitzy, but I think it's just your Canadian pride that's been wounded. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Okay, I've said my piece, however controversial, and will now withdraw. Y'all can go back to discussing guns and stuff, which is an entirely different topic that should absolutely be discussed. -bows- Thank you for reading and sorry if I offended anyone.

Thank you so very much for your view Fely. Lemme just say that it has in no way at all offended me or what I think about the issue. Yes, the whole point of me actually making this thread was to point out just how wounded my 'Canadian Pride' was by such an accusation.
About the statistics thing I said that 7% of people are OPENLY racist, meaning that there are probably a whole lot more who are but just havnt been discovered yet.
I'm in no way coming in and trying to prove whether one country is more racist then another, because as Kaoru said 'We're all a little bit racist'. The thing that angered me so much about the accusation (Of course this will be forgotten in the blink of an eye) was that the way he accused us, made it seem as though the entire populace of Canada was racist, when he ment the border gaurds and all that jazz. THAT is what turned my guts. Its just an issue of blaming the entire population of people when its only a small group that may be doing it. Almost like the issues with teenagers. How people are all so scared of us, and yet it is only a small percentage that are commiting crimes and doing horrid things.
They want to sue the nation of Canada for 900 million dollars, which is completely ridiculous. And a lot of people, including Americans are pretty angry at this and think its foolish. The reason they are saying that Canada is 'racist' is because they're giving rappers a hard time at the border...In my oppinion, it is not a question of race when 50 Cent and G-Unit are looked at a little funny coming over the borders. It is what they stand for and what they do that is restricting their passage. They are people that are in gang wars or are part of crime rings (Not that all rappers are, but you know what I mean) That is why people are so iffy letting them over, in my oppinion. They culd possibly cause trouble.
But in another light, thank you very much again for your comments. You are a smart and realistic person Fely and I respect and enjoy how refreshing that is.

Yeah haha that song is amazing. Avenue Q is just an awesome musical. I want to see it next time I'm in Broadway, whenever that is x3
Hahahaha you loved it Zizzie and you know it. xP
Ah yes Blitzy, now that whole suing the border guard thing is utterly ridiculous, absurd, and really really stupid besides. -nods sagely- I don't think anything will actually come of it, but the idea that some people are so stupid enough to actually suggest such a thing is definitely revolting and vomit-worthy. I agree wholeheartedly with you there.
And thank you. I took a class called Facing History and Ourselves this past year, and it was a really eye-opening and perspective-changing class that dealt with issues like racism and prejudice, among other things. We learned quite a bit about how humans judge instinctively, and in one class we actually listened to "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist." =)

Chyeah, I just don't think Canada, or any country for that matter, can be uberly racist as a whole. I believe every individual looks at things differently... different people laugh at racist jokes and all that... but yeah. I don't consider myself racist, at least not uberly racist where I wanna go out and commit hate crimes against hispanics or black people. I wouldn't wanna be mean, either. So yeah.
But anyway, Fely you made me snort water.
