HUMAN/ANTHRO WORLDS CHARACTER
Name: December
Gender: Female
Race: Half-human, half-seraph
Sub-Race: Celestial
Appearance: She's 5'8" and has an athletic build, with filled out muscle tone. Her hair, which is an unusual blue-blonde color, is kept in a braid and goes all the way down to her rear. She has distinct violet eyes, and peach-colored skin. Her hair, eyes, and healthy skin give off an almost supernatural glow. She's never seen without the sword that's strapped to her back, and is usually garbed in clothes typical of a huntress or a mercenary.
Though she's pretty, most people avoid her because they sense she is not entirely earthly, and because she has a toughness to her that most people wouldn't like to encounter. Her one companion is a mockingbird she calls Imi (short for "Imitation").
Personality: December's got a very strong sense of independence, and a tough "life is competition" exterior. She cares for others' well-being, but she would probably not sacrifice herself to save another: she's got her own self-interest in mind. She abandoned her pride in exchange for becoming a mercenary once, and she's never afraid or ashamed to do the dirty work that no one else is willing to do. She's clever and has a high appreciation for art and talent, but she isn't necessarily the most intelligent person around. She's hard to get close to; her surface is difficult to penetrate. She keeps all her thoughts and reflections to herself. It's hard to make her lose her temper, but when she does, it's as if all hell broke loose; so you don't want to make her angry.
Magic: Angelic
Spells:
December can summon wings if need be. They are very radiant, seemingly made of light itself. Unfortunately, they are not very strong. At best, she can glide for short distances with them. If she carries anything more than 100 pounds, then her "flight" is more like a slowed descent ("falling with style," so to speak).
She also has a mental connection with her sword, Seraphim, that makes it like a separate limb of her body. This allows her to do unnatural things with it, like hurling it and being able to aim it like a missile once it's in the air and summoning it back to her like a boomerang.
Skills: She has excellent swordsmanship, though she still acknowledges she has much to learn. The sword she always bears is made of a material never before seen in this world, a shining, silver-white metal as hard as diamonds and yet lighter than most swords (think of mithril from LotR). She calls it Seraphim for the ones who bequeathed it to her, and she is the only one who can bear it, as the seraphim had ordained. Though she is fearsome with this weapon, without it she would be nearly powerless.
Biography: Her father was a seraph named Spiridon who came down to the mortal world just once. He told no one what the purpose was for this journey. In any case, he was forced to stay at a mortal's home for a while. This mortal was a young woman named Felicity, who had just lost her aged father to disease (her mother had died long ago in an accident), and who was now having to take care of her farm by herself. Spiridon was captivated by her, and helped her, and delayed his journey for a while just to stay longer with her. She was awed by him, for he seemed supernaturally human, and she very quickly fell in love with him. But eventually Spiridon could delay his excursion no longer and was forced to leave, although he left behind a child in Felicity. Spiridon revisited Felicity only once after that, when she gave birth to their daughter, December (so named for the month in which she was born). Tragically, Felicity died in childbirth, no matter how hard Spiridon tried to save her: this time his seraphic powers were not enough to prevent Felicity's fate. Still, he was able to save the baby, and took December to live with him and the other seraphim.
Life among the seraphim is completely unknown to all mortals (most do not even realize their existence), so December's upbringing will remain mysterious. When she became sixteen years old, she felt a strong attachment to the mortal world, knowing her heritage. Her sense of independence had by this time been growing, and she pleaded to her father to let her live in the mortal world. He let her go, but reluctantly, and not without having all the seraphim forge a sword of special material for her. For the first and only time in her life so far, she was moved almost to tears, for she loved sword-fighting and knew she excelled at it, and greatly appreciated the efforts her fellow seraphim had put into its making. She named it Seraphim for them, and Spiridon charmed it so that it would answer only to her.
Then December tried to go down to the mortal world, but she miscalculated and ended up in the dream-realm for a while. The dream-realm was where she met the mockingbird (Imi) who was fighting a chameleon. Imi had the ability to transform into any creature imaginable—but could not change her size. So even if she became an elephant, she would be a mockingbird-sized elephant. December watched the battle between Imi and the chameleon, which Imi eventually won. Then December "introduced" herself to the mockingbird and named her, and Imi immediately took a liking to her. They'd been inseperable comrades ever since.
December lived in the dream-realm for a while, adjusting to its oddities. Finally she and Imi found a way to leave it, and enter the real mortal world, which was December's destination all along. Of course, it was harsh, and December ended up signing on as a mercenary during a war between two countries. She learned a lot during the year in which she was enlisted. She would have stayed as a mercenary, but she was spurned and scorned even though her abilities were incredible. Tired of being unappreciated, and deciding it was time to see more of the world, she left that mercenary company and traveled on, living among the wilderness and learning a lot about the ways of mortals. She no longer thought of herself as a seraph, except when people give her strange looks, detecting that there was something unnatural about her. She was content to be alone, with Imi, learning to survive and to deal with the harshness of a mortal life.
