HUMAN/ANTHRO WORLDS CHARACTER
Name: Paranis
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Sub-Race: N/A
Appearance: Some would say he is the ideal male specimen; he is impressively athletic, muscular, strong, and agile. He stands at about 6 feet tall, and his hair is a sandy-brown, or perhaps a dirty-blond. He has blue eyes that change shades in the light (or maybe due to his emotions?)—they could be clear blue of the sky, dark blue of the deep sea, or sometimes even borderline green. He wears practical clothes of one who is used to spending many nights under the stars.
Personality: He knows the chivalric code up and down and adheres to it loyally and vigorously, because he agrees with it. He's a very positive, idealistic, and chipper person, almost to a fault. He also does not know when to quit, wanting to stick to something until he sees it all the way through. Despite this naiveté and thickheaded persistence, he's not just a dumb jock; he puts his mind to work as rigorously as his body, for he has a curiosity about the world that can only be fulfilled through learning.
Magic: N/A
-Spells: N/A
Skills: He is incredibly skilled with weapons, sword, knife, bow and arrow. He almost never misses his aim.
History: He was born in Escavas, the youngest of six children, of whom he was the only boy. He idolized his father and took after him in every way possible, and his five sisters and mother made sure that he always treated women properly. His father made sure that he trained his body while his mother made sure he trained his mind; he accepted both challenges with eagerness.
Many girls fixed their eyes on him, but only a few ever set his heart afire. Whenever he had a crush on a girl, he pursued her with the same pigheadedness he applied to his studies and athletics. It never failed; no girl ever turned him down. Not until he met Amarantine.
When he reached his eighteenth birthday, his family was struggling financially and was forced to make Paranis a squire to a knight of the castle. Paranis accepted the job without complaining and worked hard for his knight. One day, as knights do, Paranis's knight went off questing, and took Paranis with him. They came to a forest that, according to rumor, was plagued by a nasty beast who gobbled down passersby and licked the bones clean down to the very last drop of blood. Paranis and his knight set out to rid the forest of such a creature.
They came upon the creature's cave, and Paranis's knight told him to stay outside and wait for three hours. If the knight did not return by then, Paranis must flee to the castle and ask for aid. The knight plunged into the deep cave. Paranis waited three hours, and the knight did not return. Obeying his knight, Paranis began the trek back to the castle. On his way, though, he saw someone by a pond and went to check it out, meaning to warn the person of the presence of the fearsome beast.
What he found was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. She was gazing at the pond, and Paranis noticed that she had no reflection. But before he could say a word, she looked up at him and smiled in greeting. Instantly he knew he could trust her. He began to warn her about the beast, but she shook her head and drew letters in the dirt. Paranis looked and saw that it contained a message: "Follow me, and I will show you the way to defeat the beast of the forest."
Trusting her, he followed her into the heart of the forest, and would have gotten lost but for her excellent guidance. She showed him a single tree that bore bunches of berries. She took a bunch and handed it to him. Then, as Paranis watched, she bared her teeth and mimed eating them, then closed her eyes and mimed sleeping. Paranis understood her meaning, and followed her as she led him back to the beast's cave.
He lay the berries at the entrance of the cave and hid in a nearby bush, waiting. Presently the beast came out, licking blood from its jaws, sniffed at the berries, and instantly gobbled them down. Within minutes it collapsed, unconscious. Paranis hurried into the cave and looked for his knight, but there was nothing but bones. Filled with sorrow, he left the cave, and as he did so, he plunged his sword into the beast's heart. The action would haunt him later, for he would never forget the shame of killing a defenseless creature.
He looked for his beautiful helper and saw her standing between two trees. She had written in the dirt in front of her: Amarantine. He introduced himself as Paranis and invited her to come with him to the castle. She shook her head, and he offered to come back. At that, she smiled, and he suddenly realized that he had fallen in love with her.
But duty called him home. He returned to the castle with the bones of his knight and reported all that happened, though he left out the parts with Amarantine, claiming that he knew about the berries all along. Everyone mourned the loss of the knight, but the lord called for a feast in celebration of Paranis's defeat of the beast. His entire family was soon invited to stay at the castle, but Paranis did not stay long. He had to return to the forest and to Amarantine.
But when he returned, she was nowhere to be found, though he scoured the entirety of the forest many times over, calling out her name. Believing that she had left him for good, he searched for a cause and realized it was because she had seen him kill the beast when it was defenseless. He never forgave himself after that, and continued to torment himself for love of Amarantine.
He returned home only to say farewell again. He took rations and the best horse the lord had to offer, and left his home, Escavas, for good, vowing to never return until he found Amarantine. He is still searching for her to this day, consumed with love for her and driven by shame to ask for forgiveness.
