Time had a way of just stopping suddenly. He wasn't sure how much time had past since he discovered his mates passing. And Zephyrus didn't care. Time was just a figment now, something he couldn't believe in. His family had been hit hard and now he was left with two sons that he wasn't sure he knew how to help. He had never been the kind for fatherly affection, just like his own father. He had had Phobia there, supporting him and guiding him. Now she was just gone. Nothing but part of the ground.
His claws dug into the ground sharply as the memory just came right back to him. It still stung every time he thought about it. But really, he shouldn't be surprised. His family had a habit of just dying off. All that was left really was his brother. He never really counted Lacri as anything related to him and especially now he despised her. He blamed two people for his mates death: Himself for letting her even being around when the war was going on, and Lacri for being so selfless. The Empress should have been hidden away, letting others fight as she commanded from safety.
The large druin let his head fall back, letting the harsh rain fall onto his face. He found safety here. The rain seemed to wash away what was bothering him. He knew he needed to leave to. He was a danger to just about everyone that came near him. But his sons stayed and the last thing he wanted was to abandon them. Bring his head down, the giant Oreo stood and shook out his black and white fur, then sat right back down, letting it get soaked all over again.

The war had taken its toll on every member in Giaku, be they noble or commoner. Families were ruined, friends were murdered, and many sons and daughters would grow up without fathers and mothers. Charon had an empire to help rebuild, but, call him selfish, he was more concerned for his brother. Lacrimosa would have to he handle things on her own for now. The Dominus had kept a close eye on his brother ever since he had received news of Phobia's death, making sure he would not harm himself or others out of mad grief. When he noticed Zephyrus suddenly disappeared Charon feared he had abandoned his family. He was vastly relieved to hear from a scout that his brother had stayed in the Empire.
Charon now decided to find his grief-stricken brother. He was not really sure what he could do at this point. Guilt began to creep into Charon's mind, blocking out the constant ache of spikes he had shed and used as weapons weeks ago against Shinkou. He felt partially responsible for Phobia's death; if he had not begged and pleaded his brother to come back to Giaku after their father's assassination, and what seemed like a systematic attempt to wipe out the entire Royal Family, Phobia would never have been there to take the killing blow. Someone else could have sacrificed their life to save the Empress, perhaps even himself. The possibilities of what could have happened, what should have happened, flooded his mind, the rain doing nothing to lighten his mood.
A sudden gale of wind brought the behemoth out his thoughts. He had never been to the Yonaga provinces before, and if Tsuyu was an example of what the rest of the provinces looked like he would rather stay in the barren, bleak heart of the Empire. Jungles that seemed to stretch on forever had suddenly appeared before him; much too crowded for spiked giant to move around in, forgetting momentarily he was temporarily absent of those sharp protrustions that usually covered his body. While looking at the landscape with distaste he noticed something that stood out of the thick foliage, something black and white and nearly as large and tall as himself. He calmly strode toward the figure, and when the gale from earlier had died down, he spoke only to announce his presence.
"Brother..."

He was so out of it, he hadn't even been suspicious of anyone being near. He heard a single word and his lips tugged downward. White eyes glanced toward where he heard the voice. The only brother he had left. Charon. Zephyrus couldn't help but let out a tight grow.
'Haven't you got your precious Empress to look out for?' Yes he was bitter. He had every right to be. Really it was so odd. Before he had a hard time expressing his emotions, even around Phobia. But now here he was, in the middle of grief and not afraid to let others know it.

Charon bit his lip, forcing himself to not respond to Zephyrus' growl and bitter insult the way he usually would. Charon had grown increasingly defensive over Lacrimosa, coming to see her as his daughter since he had practically raised her since she was a pup. He would hold himself back here; getting into an argument would do nothing to help the situation.
"I'm not here to talk about Lacri, Zephyrus," he said, dismissing the statement, and he wasn't here to talk about their niece. "If you're going to be mad at anyone, it should be me, brother. Not Lacri, not Ammon. Me."

If anything, Charon defended, Zephyrus should be mad at him. His brother. The one who gave him pardon to come back. Charon acted as if he had a say so in the emotions churning through him. Zephy gave a snort, 'You weren't the one to kill her.' The alpha of Shinkou had and so had Lacri.
His fur bristled despite being weighed down by the falling rain. Again, he didn't care. He was now agitated and more upset. This was probably the first time he'd talked to anyone besides his sons about all of this. He'd more or less just stayed away. 'It will always be her fault.' And that was that.
He took in a slow breath as he looked back around the forest, 'I meant to leave.' He explained, 'Im only here because of my sons.'
