Alshain
Alshain was falling. His dark feathered wings desperately tried to catch the air but to no avail. The world flew past him as he plummeted into thick darkness. It weighed down his wings and pulled him in deeper. The wolf jerked violently as he realized he was underwater. Bubbles escaped from his maw as he thrashed, trying to claw his way back to the surface. His lungs burned as he watched himself sink further and further from the light. Finally the darkness closed all around him.
With a gasp the deep blue wolf lifted his head from his paws and snapped his wild eyes open. His chest heaved as he drank in the cool mountain air. It took him several moments to secure in his mind that he was safe in the shallow cave he'd discovered the night before. He was dry and comfortable on his bed of harvested grass.
"It was just a dream," he murmured, rising shakily to his paws. It was as though he had to speak the words to finally reassure himself that it was just that--a dream. More of a nightmare, really.
The young male shook himself of the lingering terror and stepped from the shade of his makeshift den and into the early afternoon sunshine. He'd slept longer than he anticipated, but he still felt exhausted. The weary wolf padded to the edge of his rocky outcropping and seated himself. The sun warmed his back and seeped through his skin, radiating warmth right down to his bones. He rumbled appreciatively and turned his bright eyes down the slope of the mountain. It had been dark when he'd finally come to rest and he hadn't had the opportunity to really give the place a good look. He was pleased with what he saw, though.
The whole area sang to him of his homeland and he felt a deep connection with the land almost instantly.
Al threw his head back and let fly a song. The land was rich with the scent of the pack. With any luck his cry would fall on understanding ears and an ambassador would be sent to see about him. Until then the blue wolf rolled his shoulders and got comfortable.
