Name: Keroberos
Nickname: Kero
Gender: Male
Age: As old as Yueh...except that Yueh was born first.
Race: Wolf/lion hybrid
Sub-Race: Part Spirit
Breed: Mutatio/Spirit Lion (see Old Species Index for Mutatios)
Pack: Shinkou
Rank: Reku (scout), brother of Yueh
Appearance: Kero is about the size of Yueh, his older brother. Kero once had normal gray fur, but after he spent much of his life in the Spirit World, he emerged looking noticeably part lion, due to an adventure there. Now he has dark gold fur with many shadows, and his eyes are of an indistinguishable color; sometimes they seem bright as stars, other times dark as night. His tail is like an elongated whip, resembling a lion's. His large draconic wings are golden with a black outline.
Magic: Chief Element: Air/Wind
Spells:
Gossiping Wind: Breezes love to tease him and bring him news of where they had just been. Thus, if there's a good wind blowing, he can hear something clear as a bell, even though it's actually a long distance away.
Storm Control: Kero can manipulate a preexisting hurricane or cyclone to some degree. He cannot control it completely, of course, but he can shift their power so that some people are more affected by it than others.
Air Spin: He can bend the air around him to become a fast-spinning whirlwind of a small, personal size. He can only keep them up for a short amount of time and can create/control a maximum of a three at a time.
Releasing the Storm Within: Kero's greatest power, a tribute to his Mutatio and transforming heritage. If put under considerable stress and if he has enough energy, Kero can become a fearsome tornado, shifting his body so that it is nothing but a dangerous, chaotic cyclone. It is much bigger than his small whirlwinds, not to mention much more powerful, and he has complete control over himself in this form. It is extremely dangerous, however, and if he is defeated in this form (e.g., if he runs out of energy and cannot shift back), he will die, his body simply becoming part of the surrounding air. Because of the high risk, Kero has used this ability perhaps once or twice in his entire long life and hopes to never be forced to use it again.
Personality: Kero was once full of rage and envy, from living in Yueh's shadow all his life. But following a battle for the title of Alpha in Shinkou Ookami, which ultimately resulted in Yueh's death, Kero realized what a monster he had become. When Yueh returned, Kero gave him back the title and swore never to seek it again. Now he is a kindhearted soul, polite to strangers, and feels nothing but fraternal love for Yueh. At first impression, one might not think much of him, but he is more powerful than he seems. He is ever-willing to fight, and is gratified when he sees certain adversaries suffer. He can be quite patient, but once that patience snaps, you'll regret it.
History: Kero was the younger brother of Yueh, older brother to Raven. In their old pack, he was always outshone and overshadowed by Yueh, which filled him with competitiveness and resentment. During a journey with his siblings he got lost in the Spirit World, and was believed dead by Yueh and Raven. He became trapped in an abyss in the Spirit World called the Rift. In order to escape, he fought a powerful Lion, not realizing that this Spirit Lion was in fact the king of the Guardian Cats, an elite group of creatures who kept order in the Underworld.
After a long, epic battle, Kero prevailed, killing the Lion. This granted him an exit from the Spirit World, but as soon as he had left, he realized that the Lion had become a part of him somehow. Now his appearance was both lionlike and wolflike, and his strength was increased. Again, Kero did not realize that this meant he would one day have to return to take up the mantle of the king he killed.
Refreshed, Kero journeyed for a while until he came upon Shinkou Ookami. There he found Yueh, and all his old resentment and bitterness came rushing back. Believing that Yueh did not deserve the title of Alpha, he fought his own brother for that rank. After another long, epic battle, Kero ended up throwing Yueh off a cliff. It was only then that he realized what a monster he'd become and, horrified, refused to take the title of Alpha that he had technically earned.
Thankfully, Yueh returned to life, and Kero swore not to fight him again. Then he lived a content life as a member of Shinkou, happy to follow his brother's lead. That was, until the Ghost attacks. Kero confronted Kangetsu, Yueh's elder, evil self, in an attempt to free Yueh from the long years of enslavement to Ghost. After fighting Kangestu, Kero retrieved Yueh's amulet and was able to return it to his brother. This amulet allowed Yueh to defeat Ghost, and they both died, though their souls merged in the tree Hageshii Shizukesa.
Mourning his brother and fearful to lose his sister, Raven, as well, Kero has journeyed into the Spirit World once again with a bright-eyed companion, Animus, pulled there by some unknown force. It is there that Kero was informed of his destiny: that he was the only one who carried the blood of the Guardian Cats' former king, and thus he was to inherit this rank. Kero, no longer power-hungry, was stunned, but he still fought a Guardian (Animus's old companion, Ezekeil) to prove his worth. Bilqis, the queen, has now sent the newly-crowned Kero, along with Animus, to uncover the frightening plot of one who seeks to break open the gates of the Spirit World and release the dead upon the living.
They are in the middle of that quest even now...but Kero has done the unthinkable. Encountering a spirit he believed to be his brother, Yueh, he has returned that spirit to life with his newfound powers. Perhaps the greatest mistake in his long life, for that spirit is none other than Ghost himself: the former nemesis of Shinkou Ookami.
