HUMAN/ANTHRO WORLDS CHARACTER
Name: Garrick Kattan
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Sub-Race: N/A
Appearance:
Human- While Garrick has another form, he is first and fore most a human, born and raised. Standing nearly six feet high, he is fairly lanky, though it is difficult to tell his exact body type below the folds of clothing he wears. Garrick's actual face often remains unknown, because one of his most striking features is the dark mask that he wears over his face. Etched from wood, the mask details are intricately carved to form a short, black beak like that of a crow's. The mask itself however, is not in imitation of the actual bird, because it's overall form is that of a man with a bird's beak and covers Garrick's entire face. Though if one is to get close enough, his dull blue eyes can be seen through the mask's own. His entire outfit is dyed in the same white color, starting from the veil he wears over his head to the fabric covered boots upon his feet. Small straps of black contrast against the white where they are wrapped around his boots and gloves at his feet and wrists. The only part of his body that remains uncovered by the thin, flowing fabric are his fingers where the gloves suddenly end. In order to keep his vest and pants in control, he wears a black cloth belt tied loosely around his waist. To complete the outfit, a long cape drapes over his shoulders and still touches the ground even while he is standing.
Beneath the mask and his clothing, Garrick hides a garish array of deep and gruesome scars. Most of them cover his arms and chest, but many more still adorn his back and head. Specifically over his face alone there are two upon his left cheek, one that crosses over his nose and through his right eye and another that runs up from the left side of his jaw to his hair line. The eye where the scar passes through is clouded and white and he can no longer see through it. On his back, he only has two scars running horizontal near the waist, while his chest has many that run up, down and across his waist and chest. There are several along his right arm, while there is only one on his left shoulder and another near his elbow. There is however, only one scar above his right kneecap.
Vulture- Garrick, through the power of a curse, is able to take the form of a large white vulture, an animal with dreary looking feathers and a balding head atop a long, drooping neck. Like his actual height as a human, Garrick's vulture form is slightly taller than that of an average vulture, but not by much.
Personality:
In his younger years, Garrick was a carefree, adventurous teenager and lived life with a careless attitude. He lived by taking what he wanted and didn't think much of repercussions. As he became older and gained experience through his misadventures however, he began to understand that his life and that of others, was more fragile than he thought. While he is still an adventurous individual, Garrick's attitude is far more serious now than when he was just a child. Often times he still does wear that child-like grin behind his mask when running from desert demons or dashing out of the reach of a group of bandits.
While he appreciates time spent to himself, Garrick enjoys the company of others, sometimes able to socialize well, even with strangers he has just met. Though he enjoys alcohol, he isn't able to handle very much before loosing control of himself. Once when he downed a few bottles through the invitation of a generous, drunk stranger at the bar, he ended up accidentally setting the kegs on fire. Without so much as a thought, he ended up fleeing the town indefinitely.
Garrick is not ashamed of his scars, but he still hides them behind his mask and clothes. He has no fear for his identity either since mostly anyone who has seen him before can recognize him from the mask he wears. While he used to brandish the scars he earned like badges in years past, Garrick has learned that some people find them unsightly or may think him to be a malicious villain because of his scars. So wearing the mask at least covers them up a little and only when he knows someone has gotten used to him does he often take off his mask before them.
Magic: Healing and Fire
-Spells:
- While not necessarily a spell, Garrick can transform himself into a vulture because of his curse.
- Ironic because of his scars, Garrick knows a few small healing spells. Using his hands to cover the spot, he is able to speed up the regeneration process and close a bleeding wound. There is a small chance of removing any poisons or infections that may affect the area. While this is useful, the wound may not necessarily heal completely, which means that deep or terrible wounds may still leave scars.
- Garrick often uses this spell on his drinking water. Simply by touching the surface and concentrating, he can clear the water of any impurities or whatever may be harmful to ingest.
- To give himself an edge over other swordsmen, Garrick can imbue his blades with flame. Touching his own weapons to others to induce a spark may catch both him and his opponent's blades on fire, the only difference being his blades are magically able to resist the effects of damage from the heat. At times that he has this spell active, Garrick will drag his blades along the ground and cause it to catch fire where his swords have touched. He uses this tactic more often to create a barrier between himself and enemies.
Skills:
- Garrick has spent years traveling through the desert, whether by his own power or on camel back, so he has become acclimated to harsh climates and has learned how to survive under extreme conditions.
- Honed throughout the years in his many battles, Garrick knows of several ways to use his knowledge and skill to kill a man. While he has not always escaped unharmed, Garrick is not a foe to simply dismiss when challenged to a fight with his swords.
- While he is dexterous with his swords, he is not very strong. What he lacks in strength and muscle though, he makes up for in agility. His ability to dodge and keep away from the enemy's blade has kept him alive throughout the years.
Biography:
Age- 32
Weapon- Garrick carries only two weapons with him, each one the long and curved, symbolic swords used by desert Arabian cultures known as "saif". The sheaths his two swords are kept in are brown leather, tipped with a dull rusted metal that lacks any kind of detail or symbols.
Garrick hails from a desert region of hot sands and brutal sunlight, which explains his choice of clothing, even though he wears it no matter what kind of climate he's in. He's lived on the sands for most of his life, venturing through the few desert cities and helping anyone in distress or less fortunate than he. In his earlier years, Garrick simply took on new tasks for the adventure of it all, living for the risk in life, but the dangers of life became less thrilling when his eyes witnessed the horrors of cruelty. Garrick soon took up his sword for the protection of innocents rather than for the thrill of his own glee.
Garrick never knew his true parents and was raised by his grand-mother who was too old to keep up with his energetic youth. So when Garrick was old enough to think that he could take care of himself, he ran away, seeking quests and dreaming about a fantastic life of adventure in far off lands.
In his teen years, Garrick was a bit of a show-off and was lucky that through his adventuring he had never gotten seriously injured. He would parade his thievery in market places and targeted individuals whom he thought could never keep up with him. However as an older, yet still, young man, Garrick's luck ran out when he received his first terrible scar. A bandit's sword had almost sliced his nose off and cut deep into his right eye. After that, Garrick's care-free attitude was never the same and he became more careful as timed passed. His boisterous attitude became silent as he replaced noise with stealth.
Not a shape he takes by choice, Garrick was cursed early on in his adventures to take the form of a large, white vulture any time he is around death. He received this curse when trespassing on the lands of a witch, who cursed him when he killed a chimera she had conjured to guard her home. Garrick had almost stolen one of her magic items when she found him and, rather than killing him, bewitched him with a curse. While he is able to resist the transformation, it will inevitably take control of him no matter how much he tries to prevent it. Taken over by the instincts of the scavenger, he will often devour the flesh of anyone he has killed. Though he does not enjoy doing so, Garrick can change into a vulture at will, but to resist the change when he has not devoured the flesh of dead things around him is difficult.
