Playable Characters in the World of Shinkou Ookami
While Shinkou Ookami is mostly a wolf rpg, other creatures may be included in roleplay to progress plots or add to the story. While this is a fantasy roleplay site, try to stick to the nature and realistic qualities of all animals or the guidelines stated for each creature in this guide.
_______________________
-Wolf:
Height Limit- 4 feet
Average Height- 2-3 feet
Sociable Animal- Usually live in groups or families known as packs, but it is not uncommon for them to live alone. As mainly carnivorous animals, herbivores or omnivores try to steer clear of them.
-Can Join Wolf Packs-
Diet- (Mostly Carnivorous)
Pack wolves often hunt big game and hoofed animals such as deer, caribou, bison, ox, moose, wild goats or sheep and other ungulates. To ensure their catch, packs will target the sick, weak, old or juvenile animals of the group. Lone wolves are less likely to take down a herd animal alone, but have been known to do so if the animal is weak enough. When larger prey is not available, wolves will hunt rabbit, squirrels, beavers, mice and other small animals and, while unusual, have been known to catch fish. Wolves only eat grass to purge their digestive system when something they have eaten does not agree with them. While they do sometimes eat vegetation like berries or fruit, this is only a minor part of their diet and do not make up for the nutrition they receive from prey.
Information- In SO, wolves make up the largest population of land mammals in their world and it is common to see them just about anywhere in most types of climates. Wolves often try to avoid contact with humans, which is easy since animals domesticated and raised by humans are less appealing than the plentiful wild game that is available to wolves as natural prey.
-Demon Wolf(sub race):
Height Limit- 5 feet
Unsociable Animal- While demonic wolves are simply demons in the form of wolves, they still do follow the basic instincts of real wolves and thus, will seek out the companionship of a pack. However, as demons are often born or created alone, they may feel awkward in social situations.
-Can Join Wolf Packs-
Information- Demon wolves are a sub race of wolf. As they are not true wolves, they are able to grow up to 5 feet in height, but only if a character's Sub Race is listed as being a Demon.
_______________________
-Spirit:
Average Height- 10-26 inches
-Cannot Join Wolf Packs- but they do live in wolf inhabited areas and frequently follow wolves around.
Diet- No diet. While spirits can ingest things, they do not need to eat actual food to survive.
Information- Spirits are the magical entities made up of pure elemental energy that live in various places around the globe. Most of them can be found clustered in Shinkou though, because this is where it is believed they are born. Individually, spirits always only posses one type of elemental magic and can only cast up to five spells. Because spirits do not speak, it is difficult for them to converse with other creatures unless a Sho-un is around them. Sho-un, which are special ranks available only to wolves in Shinkou and Akeru, are the only creatures able to speak to and hear the Spirits.
_______________________
-Hell Hound:
Height Limit- 5 feet
Average Height- 2-4 feet
Unsociable Animal- While hell hounds sometimes form their own packs or clans, they do not mingle well with any creatures aside from their own kind. Wolves usually avoid them like the plague.
Diet- Similar to the diet of a wolf, hell hounds are mostly carnivorous but will sometimes ingest fruits and vegetation. Though this does not make up a majority of their diet and nutrition and unlike wolves, some hell hounds have a tendency to practice cannibalism; devouring other canines as well as their own kind.
Information- On SO, hell hounds most often resemble dog-like creatures with short hair or no fur at all. It is believed that they are born from fire and brimstone or some other form of dark creation. They are often feared and the appearance of one is seen as a sign of bad luck or an ill fated omen. Wolves dislike their sulfur smell and some mothers tell their pups stories about bloodthirsty hell hounds to make them behave.
_______________________
-Domestic Dog:
Height Limit- 4 feet
Average Height- 2-4 feet
Sociable Animal- Being a domesticated animal of humans, dogs are mostly trained to obey their masters and their sociable natures solely depend on who or what their owners expose them to and how they are trained to respond.
-Sometimes Join Wolf Packs (Please send a message to Wyndbain before deciding this)
Diet- Domesticated dogs depend on their human owners for food and will mostly eat anything they are given. If they can hunt or forage on their own, a dog's diet is pretty much the same as a wolf's.
Information- From a wolf's perspective, domesticated dogs are looked down upon because of their loyalties to humans, but if a dog can prove his worth in the wild, wolves are sometimes willing to accept their company.
_______________________
-Dragon:
Height Limit- 20 feet
Diet- (Varied Diet)
Dragons can be either or: carnivorous, herbivorous or omnivorous, depending on their preferences. Different types of dragons can obtain nutrients on different diets and lifestyles.
Information- Dragons tend to live on their own, since they are such large creatures they enjoy a wide, spacious territory to themselves. Those that do live in clan-like groups are mostly families led by the eldest dragons. It is not uncommon that dragon territories will cross over wolf boundaries, but dragons don't bother the wolves so long as the wolves don't bother them. Since dragons can grow to fairly large heights, wolves don't normally like to cross paths with them any way.
_______________________
-Feline: (lions, tigers, etc...)
Height Limit- 4-5 feet
Felines are solitary creatures, but they easily share lands with wolves so long as the wolves don't become an annoyance or interfere with their hunting. They tend to avoid wolf packs because it would be difficult for a lone animal to take on a pack, but it is not unusual for lone wolves to be targeted as prey by the large felines.
_______________________
-Horse:
Height Limit- 7 feet
Diet- Herbivorous
Information- On the lands of Shinkou, horses are only ever seen as the domesticated work animals of humans. There are very, very few wild horses and the only herds in the area are fairly small compared to an average group. Because wolves often prey on hoofed animals, wild horse herds are fearful of them and will remain at a distance. Domesticated horses are more easily spooked by wolves and are often sent into a frenzy when they are nearby.
_______________________
-Deer/Caribou/Moose/etc:
Height Limit- 7 feet
Diet- Herbivorous
Information- Ungulates, or animals with hooves, live together in groups of herds. These animals are a main source of prey for wolf packs and avoid direct contact with them unless the larger, more bold herd animals are trying to defend their families.
_______________________
-Human:
Height Limit- 7 feet
Average Height- 5-6 feet
Humans don't like entering wolf territories, but it is not uncommon that some will put aside their doubts and venture close to a pack. Humans normally have nothing to fear however, for wolves will normally keep their distance or remain hidden when they approach.
_______________________
-(anthro): (Not an actual race, please read the information below.)
Height Limit- 7 feet
Average Height- 5-6 feet
-Anthros on their own are not an individual race. Anthro is simply a word to describe an animal that can anatomically stand on two legs instead of four and may possess human-like qualities in their physical appearance.
Anthros are creatures or humanoids given an animal appearance who are bipedal. They can stand upright, walk on two legs and are more closely related to humans rather than animals in the way of their anatomy. Wolves and four-legged creatures find them unusual and usually treat them the same way they would humans.
_______________________
-(werewolf): (Werewolves are traditionally a "sub-race". Meaning that, like an anthro, a werewolf itself does not count as an actual race, seeing as how the werewolf form cannot exist without the original host.
Height Limit- 8 feet
Some wolves have the ability to alter their appearance to become more humanoid and are able to walk up-right, but they are still wolves as their original form is that of a feral wolf. These werewolves will sometimes join wolf packs.
Humans or other creatures have been known to gain this shifting power as well, however, they cannot and will not join wolf packs due to their original forms not being that of wolves.
Werewolves(lychanthropes), or were creatures, are humans, anthros or even some animals that can shift into an alternative form. These alternate forms are similar to anthros in the fact that they have the ability to walk up-right, though their anatomy is more closely related to animals than humans. These 'half-creatures' do not join wolf packs, though werewolves may try to venture near in hopes of finding some kin-ship amongst the wolf species.
_______________________
-(hybrids and half breeds):
Height Limit- Hybrids' heights are determined by what race they are, usually growing only as tall as the smallest race that they are part of. (Example: Wolf/Dragon hybrid can grow up to 4 ft tall.)
Hybrids are crosses between creatures that normally would not breed or be able to produce offspring. Half breeds are children of certain breeds that belong to the same family(species).
While Shinkou Ookami is mostly a wolf rpg, other creatures may be included in roleplay to progress plots or add to the story. While this is a fantasy roleplay site, try to stick to the nature and realistic qualities of all animals or the guidelines stated for each creature in this guide.
