Niphanos doesn't dream. I hear of others seeing great, fantastical visions... while sleeping. This doesn't make any sense, how can you see if your eyes are closed? Mental imagery is different, that is faint and untraceable, practically fey. No, Niphanos thinks while he sleeps. What else should he do? He can't move, that would ruin the resting that sleep brings. Because of this odd trait, he is a light 'sleeper' and is quite easily woken up, although his senses are dulled while he sleeps. He also tends to think of himself in the third person, and it's no wonder some think him crazy. Sitting stone-still as he sleeps, his only movement is his sides expanding from the slow, deep breaths he takes.
After several hours of 'dreaming', Niphanos hears something and looks up, but it appears to be only a mouse that has found the entrance and is seeking shelter. Niphanos is surprised it isn't afraid of them, but knows that it cannot be in here, and simply focuses on one of the metal plates he placed around the room, without getting up. He had covertly placed the plates around the room earlier, for defense. When the mouse gets close enough to the plate, he makes a long, needle-thin spike shoot out of the plate right through the mouse, which is lifted into the air on the spike. Looking solemnly at the mouse, with its sad grey tail limply hanging, he sighs, then gets up and takes it off. Looking down at it's small corpse in his claws, he thinks to it, I did not want to, little friend, but I had no choice... It saddens me that it must come to this. May your next life be a better one, little one. With that, he goes outside the cave, and hides its small corpse.
