These flexible snake-like hounds are cavern-dwellers that come to the surface only at night. They are renowned for their cunning and speed, and have excellent eyesight but are extremely sensitive to anything bright. They are pack animals but they call their families kabila, which is Swahili for tribe. Their alphas are called imamu which means spiritual leader in Swahili.
There are a class of warriors and fighters that are chosen for their strength and vigilance, but there are very few of these as Nyokahounds are not known for their strength. These warriors are called kamau, meaning silent warrior.
Nyokahounds live in arid deserts around a water source. They sleep in their warm caves as their eyesight is very sensitive to the sun, and only come out when the sun sets and return home when the sun rises. They are an all-around peaceful tribe, but are often misunderstood. They dabble in various magical arts, worship many great spirits, and revere a serpent called Nyokaimamu, a god said to rule the night. What makes them so unaccepted is the fact that they often perform dark arts, and some taboos. They perform sacrifices and condone cannibalism, but these are rare and usually done when needed to appease their god. They believe in balance, and condoning both white and black magic is okay.
Nyokahounds always seek spiritual enlightenment, truth, and balance and try to gain an understanding of the world around them.
They sing and dance, and enjoy wearing piercings and other jewelry made of bone or other material. They have a close relationship to scavenger birds such as African vultures, and many Nyokahounds may have one as a familiar.
