The rocks were scattered about as if a child had grabbed a bag of marbles and tossed them. THey didn't care where they landed or what they destroyed. The fact was, they were now there they were. Stuck till something else decided to pick them up and do away with them. They sky was completely overcast, adding a certain dreariness to the world. IT was depressing how sparse it all was.
There was few wildlife here and so they wouldn't be able to stay here long. His "pack" wouldn't be able to stay here long. His solders needed to be strong, which didn't mean staying in a place that held little animals. Even migratory animals weren't around. They needed rest though and he needed to gather his wits about him.
Lufelon inhaled sharply from his perch on a misplaced bolder. The ash that normally covered his body was fading off, exposing the brilliant white beneath it. The white fur he tried to hide. Ears moved around under the curve of brilliant horns that curved like a rams. In the distance, a rumble of thunder caused his eyes to open. Hopefully the storm that was far off would stay away. He didn't want to be rained out again.

Above in the sky was a twinkle, as if a star were somehow shining through the thick cloud cover…but as it was daylight, that seemed impossible. Perhaps it was the sun, straining to push one of its rays through, to reach the earth below. Or perhaps…it was something else entirely.
One thing was for sure: the object was getting larger.
Not much larger, but just enough so that it was evident that it was getting closer. And soon, it was close enough to behold the red-orange flames that streamed behind it like a banner. A meteor, then—some fallen object from the heavens above?
No, not even that.
The little projectile seemed to be on a direct course to crashing into the ground, but at the last possible moment, two wings shot out, blazing with the same fire. They flapped frantically, slowing down the object’s fall. Finally, the winged being had everything under control, landing squat in front of the scheming lupine.
In a mess of red-gold feathers, long plumes on the top of its head, the bird looked up. It was no bigger that Lufelon’s whole horned head and was hardly threatening-looking. Indeed, those deep crimson eyes blinked with an almost innocent look to them. The only odd thing about it was that it was definitely on fire.
“You’re the one, then?” the phoenix said, his words heavy with a rolling, lilting accent. “My goodness, you’re a majestic one, en’t ya? Now, I dunnae necessarily agree with what ye’re doin’, but I still must say it’s a real pleasure to meet ya. Idris I’m called, and I’ve been, ah, summoned to your aid, I guess you could say.”
