To Catch a Leaf Lupa sat on the rock in the clearing in the woods with her notebook, quill, leaf, and a thoughtful expression. On occasion, she blew the leaf she was holding into the air and watched its fall very carefully. Boy, I hope nobody sees me... I look so stupid sometimes when I'm creating a new song, she thought. She had a show at the nearby inn tomorrow night, and she wanted to introduce a new song about a very sad human (or biped wolf, like herself, but other than in the mine, she had never seen any) comparing life with and then without love to a leaf being blown into the air, and then the "blower" leaves one night and leaves the leaf descending onto the cold, unloving, unforgiving ground. So far, it wasn't going too fast. She knew that it would go faster if she had someone else to blow on the leaf, maybe, and suggest words and rhymes, but that would mean revealing her frivolry. All she had was a chorus, and then some sort of structure:
((Ooc: Critique, please?))
*** Falling, twisting, gliding to the ground, No one to cry out to 'cause there's nobody around, Why must you leave me feeling like a fallen leaf, With no chance for any... relief? ***
(vs1) -blowing up, a/i wind -rhymes w/ "er"? + heart broken, ----oken rhymes!?!?!? ----on my own tears I am chokin'? I'm a-chokin'? needs more
(c)
(v2)
BRIDGE (get angry? iffy)
(c)
(v3)
Oh, how she wished she had someone to talk with and toss ideas back and forth with! Nobody in the town would be of any good, they could only think of practical work and whatnot... and there was nobody else around, at least nobody she knew about. If only another creative mind would walk by...

OoC: It's good so far XD I like it! You shouldn't be so worried about your first anthro character. She's great n.n
iC:
Ah, yes! This was where she loved to be. Any time of day, Taurë could be found on the outskirts of the village, perhaps just standing amongst the trees lost in thought and enjoying the breeze, or gathering wildflowers... or various other things. Today was no different and she moved along easily, enjoying the feel of the grasses against her bare feet.
Taurë was a rather pretty woman, with fair, lightly freckled skin, and thick, red hair and green eyes. She had slender features and wore a layered green dress that seemed to flow into the surrounding green of nature. She loved it that way. But what she looked like was hardly any concern of hers. She hardly thought of it.
She was in quite a good mood and she even spun around a few times, just for the pleasure of it. Moving through the trees, she became deeper in the forest and suddenly she caught sight of someone in the distance. The other seemed very deep in concentration... perhaps best to be left alone.
Yet, for some reason, Taurë found herself to be curious. Had she not been in such a good mood, she would have tried to quietly sneak away as if she had never noticed. Instead, she crept closer, trying to figure out what could have this girl's attention so focused. It became clear she was writing something, and Taurë watched as the other dropped a leaf, watching it fall.
Perhaps the other was trying to figure out what makes leaves fall?
She made herself visible now, head tilted slightly. She wondered if the other would or had even noticed her presence. No matter... "Hello..." she said softly, "Might I ask what you're doing?"

Ooc: "Perhaps the other was trying to figure out what makes leaves fall?" lol
Lupa must've jumped a tail-length. She whipped around and unaheathed her sword and a brass knife all in one swift movement, but when she saw that it was only a villager, she put away her weapons and sheepishly smiled. "Sorry if I scared you— I don't like people sneaking up on me. In answer to your other question, I'm writing a song." Then, Lupa had a thought, and asked, "Would you like to help me with it? See, all I've got right now is a chorus and a couple things I think I might want to rhyme with. This is one of those times when I wish I'd've just stuck with singing other people's songs, or (even better!) just been a knight..." She trailed off, because she had been looking over the village-girl and had noticed the extraordinary color of her eyes. Huh... they're just like mine. I wonder... nah, it's not even remotely possible. There are no other bipedal wolves. Get real. "Sorry, I spaced out there for a bit. So could you help me?"
Ooc: I'm so sorry-this is the first time I've had wifi in WEEKS!! I wouldve done something sooner if I hadn't been camping- sorry!

OoC: Haha no worries XD Hope you've had fun camping!

Taurë leaped back also when the stranger suddenly sprang forward with weapons, her face turning a shade paler and her mouth curling back, baring her teeth instinctively, even if there weren't any fangs in this form. However, the other soon seemed to demonstrate lack of hostility so she also returned to her normal position, dusting off her skirt slightly. "Eh... no... I should apologize for sneaking up," she said with a shy smile back. When Lupa explained she was writing a song, it explained why she had been so startled. She had probably been lost in thought.. "Oh..." she murmured, then smiled brightly when the other invited her to help. "Sure, I guess..." She listened as the other seemed to digress from her main purpose and rose a slight brow... she could see the knight, she supposed...
She moved forward slightly and took a seat on the grassy surface, folding her legs and resting her chin on her hand, propped up by her elbow on one knee. "Hmm, well... I suppose I might ask what your intention for the song is? What emotion is behind it?" She gazed at the other, for a moment wishing it was the spirits of others rather than the earth which she could read, though quickly pushed it aside. She loved her gift very dearly.

Lupa thought on this for a bit, then said, "Well, my intention as the player is to please the audience, so it's gotta be good. But as the writer, I want to convey some serious heartbreak and pain. I need this to make people cry." With a wry smile, she added, "I certainly have enough to go off of for that," partially to herself and partially to... Come to think of it, she didn't know this village-girl's name. "By the way, I'm Guadalupe, but most I know call me Lupa. What's your name, if you don't mind telling?" As she waited for the girl to answer, she mused about her past and which one of her stories she could base this off of. I mean, my life hasn't been that bad, but still, I have plenty of experience in this sort of situation. Too much. She sighed, lost in her memories.
OoC: Uuuurgh... I'm braindead! Sorry this isn't longer!

OoC: Ack! Sorry it's taken me so long... been super busy DX plus had no muse <.<

Taurë listened quietly as the other explained what she wanted to convey... pain. Yet, suddenly, her explanation stopped and she looked at her a moment, curious and then understanding as she introduced herself. "Taurë," she said simply with a smile on her rosy lips, "and a pleasure to meet you, Lupa..." It seemed the other got lost again, if only briefly. She seemed a little scatter-brained for someone who dreamed of being a knight. But then again, what did she know? Right?
She turned her thoughts once more to the task at hand. "So... about your song. You want to express emotional pain?" She paused, seeming to mull this over. "Is there a particular person who caused you pain that you want to speak to in your song... indirectly, of course?" she asked, "Or is it just... in general?" She felt perhaps her question might not help, but then, she wasn't really a song writer, and she was trying. She just hoped Lupa wouldn't look at her funny.

"A very good question!" Lupa chuckled bitterly. "People who've caused me pain... I don't mean to point fingers at anyone in particular. I'm addressing this song quite a few people. No names, of course..." Lupa drifted off again, but this time, with a purpose. Soon, her mind came back to the clearing. "You know what? I feel like instead of capturing a leaf in my song, I'm banging my head against a rock. Whaddaya say we head into town and grab a snack— call it, ah, brain food. Do you know any good places for grub? I only got into town last night, so I'm clueless." Lupa's stomach loudly agreed with this. "I swear, that thing growls louder than I do!" she joked, grinning.
Ooc: *singing (to the tune of Eine Kleine Nacht Musik)* Brain, brain dead, brain dead brain dead brain dead! Brain, brain dead, brain dead brain dead brain deeeeead. I have, completely lost my muse, so I can't write a lot, so I am stuck with thi-is tiny fragment o-o-of a post!
(Hee hee... I do like singing. But I'm totally brain-muse-thought-dead. Grrrr.)

The woman, in truth, had hoped that developing the song might be longer, but if it was food the other wanted, she did know of a couple of places. Taurë smiled once again and stood, her green eyes soft. "Of course, that's probably just what you need. I'm sure once your stomach is satisfied, your brain can focus on more than hunger pains." She giggled lightly and turned, beginning to move back toward the town. As she walked, she spoke, glancing back toward the other. "There's several options, depending on what you're in the mood for. There's places with tea, fruit, and little cakes. And then there's places with a bit hardier of food."
They were nearing the town and soon would find themselves walking down the street, not so busy this time of day, but would be soon enough as vendors prepared to make their evening sales. She would gesture to a couple of different buildings, large structures with signs hanging over the doorways. Once Lupa announced what it was she was hungry for, Taurë would lead the way into one of them where they would see several empty tables save for a few people here or there, quietly minding their own business.

"Hmmm, what a choice!" Lupa said, very much meaning it. "I'd have to go with the hardier food, though. Oh, and since you've helped me out with my song, lunch is on me. Pick your favorite "hardy-food-place"," she said with a smile. She could smell the fresh foods in the vendors' stalls, and it made her stomach growl again. "Mmmmmmm... Pick fast, otherwise I might eat my own paw!" Lupa joked. I may actually mean that... she thought. The hunger pains were worse than she let on; she had been working since noon the previous day (and it was about midafternoon* now) without a bite to eat the entire time, she realized. Ow. I hate my determined nature. Ooc: *about 4:00 or 5:00, assuming it's summer

OoC: Oh well let's go with 4 so that way it's not so busy yet in the place XDD
iC:
Taurë nodded when Lupa made her choice and without saying it out loud, walked into one of the buildings. There were a few people, but it wasn't too jam packed, which was nice. Choosing a seat, she gestured toward a board which had different listings and prices. There was pork, brisket, and other meats on the menu along with listings of vegetables, breads and beverages. For herself, she chose a simple plate with some turkey and carrots and a plump roll. After that it would up to Lupa. Once they had told the young man who came over, inquiring about what they wanted, he would move away, soon bringing out their requests with steam rising in the air. It certainly smelled delicious, and she was all too happy to dig in.
After eating a little, Taurë turned her gaze upon Lupa once again, hoping the other was somewhat satisfied now. "Perhaps you want to continue your song later?"

Ooc: I posted!!! Why is it not showing?!
Lupa had ordered a thick slab of meatloaf as well as a large bowl of beef stew and a salad. "I eat a lot... When I remember to eat, that is," she amended. "Yes, we probably will," Lupa said in answer to the other's question. "Here, I'll give you my room number at the inn, and when you feel like it, come by. I've got some preparing to do for my show tonight. But for now, let's take this thing out again," she said, yanking out the scroll on which she was drafting her song. She hummed through her planned melody softly, and then suddenly had an idea. Under the chorus, she wrote:
"I saw you sitting on a bench by the
street,/
Not goin' anywhere, nobody to meet,/
So I sat next to you, you gave me a
glance,/
Thought I was im-mune but you melted [16th------------] [16th--------] my heart at your first chance... [de16--] [straight] *chorus*
"How about that?" Lupa said, excited.

If Taurë was shocked by the amount of food in front of Lupa, she didn't say it. After all, the reason they had come was because her stomach had been so empty it was protesting violently - in fact, she rather thought it should be expected for Lupa to eat ravenously. Still she smiled at the other, shaking her head slightly. "Well you should eat more often. I'm sure your stomach would appreciate it." She paused, eating some of her own food, and looked at the parchment when it was presented with the room number on it. "Oh, thank you... sounds like fun," she decided.
She was quiet as Lupa seemed to suddenly be hit with inspiration and upon the other's question, she smiled and nodded emphatically, excitement evident and coming to her own eyes. "Oh, very nice. It sounds like it's starting to come together!" She paused, munching some more. In truth, Taurë was not so good at actually writing songs, but in the moment she felt an idea form and felt it couldn't hurt to at least make the suggestion. "Perhaps from here you might ask why the other let you down to lead into the part you first wrote?" She was not confident enough to attempt to put her idea in verse form...

"That's a GREAT idea!" Lupa quickly scratched down: "descr. man breaking <3", translating it into her chicken-scratch. She polished off the last of her meatloaf, which was the only thing she had left, and packed up her scroll. Looking at the sun, Lupa realized, "I really have to go! Yikes!" She quickly paid for their food, and as she gathered her stuff, she asked Taurë, "Hey, could you come by my room tomorrow? I'd really appreciate some more help, if you can. I won't be functional until at least eight, though, just in case you're an early riser!" she joked. Lupa waved as she left the restaurant, but as soon as the door closed behind her, she gave a low (but powerful) growl and began sprinting. Soon, she had reached maximum speed, and, flapping her wings twice, took off. Late, late, late, late, late! she berated herself mentally. She flew high up and tucked in her front legs so that she looked like a bird (enough so to fool the casual eye). She flew like a crow, straight and fast, until she reached the forest behind her inn. Here, she dove headfirst until she almost hit the ground, only then extending her wings to glide inches from crashing. She landed smoothly, and walked into her room. There was nothing like a good flight to steady the nerves before performing.
