Chiyu listened to Alanoth's story, stunned by the reaction he had received for helping someone. No wonder he seemed so serious about his magic. Of course, so was she, but she hardly knew enough to make much of it.
"Anyway, the problem with your using large amounts of energy isn't so much not being in control, but being able to stopper it," she heard Alanoth say.
"Stopper it? But don't I need more magic, instead of limiting it?" Chiyu was completely baffled by this new idea. It just didn't make sense; she was so weak, so all she needed was more power, right?

Alanoth shook his head, according to his old masters, this was a common misconception.
"No, you see, using the power of healing only takes up so much power. It's actually very little that is needed to heal most injuries and common sicknesses. If you use too much, it leaves you exhausted and unable to do more. Plus, every time you use the power in excess, a sliver of your life force drifts away into the healing subject."

"So, what you mean to say," Chiyu began, fishing for the words as she struggled to understand completely, "is that every esun has enough magic, but the trick is just learning how to heal right...or else we die. Is that it? Because then I might actually have a chance!" A gleam of hope danced in her eyes, more than she had dared to let herself feel since arriving in Shinkou.

"Well, that's not the way I would have said it. Essentially, knowing your limits in your connection to the magic within you and knowing just how much energy is needed to heal a specific thing are two intertwined things."

"Limits...connecting to magic...energy to heal...no, still doesn't make much sense," Chiyu said as she continued to keep pace with Alanoth. She fought the urge to sit and contemplate this more, for she knew that the cold would catch them both. Further thought would have to happen while they were walking or after they arrived deeper into Shinkou territory, out of the biting snow.

"I'm probably not explaining this well. Its hard for me to explain...but after we've become official Shinkou wolves, I'll take you to the wolves who taught me so that you can learn better."

((Mind if I hop in? This seems like a perfect spot!)) ((Edit: I'm planning on using Maelathorta, as my twins are otherwise occupied in the fields of Gorotsuki Riku.))

Enjoying the crisp cut of the cold mountain wind and watching his breath fog in the air, Mal was having a good time. So much he amused himself, in fact, that he almost didn't notice the wolves walking through the snow off in the distance. When he saw them, his ears perked up, and he put on a goofy grin. With pup-like fervor, he began sprinting towards them, tongue flapping. His black moon also begins to shift very slightly to green.

Alanoth noticed the other wolf sprinting towards them and stopped. If this wolf was hostile, he would be hard pressed to protect Chiyu. If he was a Shinkou then their journey to find the Shinkou would end here.
"Stop Chiyu, we have company and I don't know if he's friendly."

Chiyu pulled up at Alanoth's command as the other wolf came bounding towards them. He looked harmless enough, almost happy even with his tongue flapping out of his mouth as he ran. However, she also trusted Alanoth more than she could any other rogue wolf. Best to listen to her new mentor on this one...

As he was running up to the other two wolves, he noticed their tension, and realized he may have surprised them, so he mentally tried capping his energy. Not again... he thought. When he approached them, he was much calmer, and his moon was back to full black again. However, still energetic, and tail wagging, he said "Hey, there! I'm Maelathorta, from the Akeru pack! I just love this area, how about you?"

Alanoth instantly relaxed as Maelathorta explained who he was.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Alanoth and this is my pupil Chiyu. We're esuns trying to find and join the Shinkou pack. What is an Akeru wolf doing here?"

Tilting his head to the side, Mal says, "Oh, I'm a kai. Since I deliver messages usually, I can pretty much go anywhere. Got any news?" Ears perked, tail wagging. Goofy grin plastered to his face. ;D Okay, not THAT goofy, but still goofy.
