A cold breeze whispered down from the mountains and into the Kohai forest. It wove in and out of trees changing speed unnaturally as if searching for something. Suddenly it dipped towards the ground ruffling the stunted growth of a clearing amongst the old woods. Color faded into its waves as it stopped and twisted in place, forming the just visible shape of a wolf.
The form grew thicker flashing snow white with threads of bright blue seeming to outline its body. Ice blue eyes blinked into life and the breeze dispersed leaving behind an almost ghostly figure.
Felkani eyed his surroundings with caution born of paranoia. He raised his maw high and sniffed the cold air. The smell of many wolves filtered through his senses making his nose twitch. "Pack lands. Hmm…" He sniffed again, trying to sort out the size of the group, but there were too many to count. "This must be Shinkou." He knew a little about the wolves of Shinkou and their history, but had never actually been in this area of the world before. He wasn't even sure how he had gotten there.
"Never falling asleep on the wing again…" The white wolf mumbled to himself as he surveyed the forest. Thoughts popped in the back of his mind. Little fears flitted in and out mingling with curiosity and some deeper need that he could never place. It all came to one nagging question. Should I join a pack?
Felkani shook the idea away. "Study first. Always know what you're dealing with." He whispered to himself. It was a habit born from years of wandering alone. He gave one last tentative sniff then headed deeper into the territory. "I shouldn't stay anywhere too long" He sulked. A root tried to trip up his thoughts but he easily leaped over it without batting an eye. "Don't be silly. This is the fifteenth time I've come across others. I know what I want. And if I don't settle how is Voice to find me?" The image of his black furred brother made him stop. He knew he couldn't keep wandering forever.
The image of his brother was suddenly replaced with a large lanky white wolf. Dull grey gold eyes burned into him above an unnaturally wide grin. The very idea of his father made him want to run. But somehow he didn't.
The image of Lark had always killed whatever semblance of peace he had. But here, among these trees he felt somehow safe. The feeling was so out of place. He opened all of his senses to the land. It didn't sound, smell or look any different than other places he had been. Yet it seemed so strange. Without realizing it his paws had started moving again. Carrying him towards the heart of Shinkou.
