Daen crouched in the ferns that sat at the feet of a tall pine tree that seemed almost to scratch the clouds with its branches. The pre-dawn darkness was concealment enough for any being, be it wolf, bird, beast, or something else. Daen's mainly dark brown fur enhanced the camoflage given by the night.
Daen was here because of a deer. It had detached from the rest of the herd, and wandered off, alone. This was unusual for a deer, as they normally stayed in numbers, for safety. Either this deer was stupid, or it was being manipulated somehow. It didn't matter to Daen anyway. He was going to take this deer down.
Daen's blue and amber eyes stared at the deer, glinting slightly in the little moonlight that made it to the ground. There was little in the way of snow in this area. Small specks remained from the last snowfall, but that was all. Daen took a small step forward, eagerness and hunger driving him on.

White Fang was wandering around, his wings drooping in exhaustion. Little did he know, he spooked the deer that another wolf was hunting, causing it to bolt. He sighed, feeling the other wolf near, and waiting for the rage of a Shinkou Wolf.

Daen took another step forward, nearly ready to strike. The deer seemed blissfuly unaware of his presence, which was what every hunter desired. The brown wolf tensed, every muscle tightening in preparation, time almost seeming to slow down.
And then a stranger blundered onto the scene, startling the deer, causing it to flee at high speeds into the trees. Daen relaxed his tensing muscles, irritation lashing him. Ah, but this would make it more interesting, re-locating the deer, and then taking it down.
Daen turned his attention to the stranger. A winged wolf, a black paw, white fur. He seemed tired, as his white wings drooped. Perhaps that was why he had not seen the deer. Daen rose out of the shrubs he had been hiding in, and stepped out of them. Not saying anything, he analysed the stranger, searching for any threats. An old habit.

White Fang held his head up high, staring the other male down. He looked like crap, but he still did his best to make himself look proud. A Light aura came around him, and he said, "I am White Fang, Gamma Male of the Akeru Pack." He could see the wolf's Heart Fire, and could tell he was friendly, but would not let himself look weak.

The wolf who called himself White Fang seemed to glow in the darkness. The traces of tiredness his body bore seemed to fade, and a proud authority was on him. Daen bowed his head in respect for the superior wolf.
"I am Daen, hunter for the Shinkou pack," he said. Another old habit kicked in, and Daen began to memorize everything about this wolf, from his scent to his tone of voice.
Daen now wondered what to say next. He did not speak often, so words did not come quickly to him. Instead, he waited for whatever the Gamma wolf had to say, keeping his head respectfully lowered a little, not wishing to offend the ally of Shinkou.

White fang looked at the young wolf, and said, "Proud hunter, do not bow to me here, I am on your land. I am merely passing through. I didn't mean to scare off your prey. If it helps, it is just behind those bushes, listening to us, if you are quiet enough, you could catch it rather quickly." It was as close to a peace offering as White Fang could give at the moment.
He laid down, hoping that the moons light would fill him, and hoped that he didn't look too weak in front of the younger wolf. His glow seemed to get brighter, as he went about getting a nest type bed ready. He pulled sticks, and leaves from everywhere around the little clearing, avoiding the deers hiding place, and laid down again. He smirked to himself, illuminating the deers hiding place.

Daen looked over at the bush that White fang indicated. True enough, the scent of the deer now reached him through the plants that hid it. These plants now seemed to be glowing, which was an interesting change. He knew that the deer was no longer a priority, however, so he turned back to the gamma wolf.
He felt like he should say something, but he did not know what. His tail flicked slightly as he thought of how to proceed in this matter. This wolf was superior to him, even though they were of different packs, so he had to be respectful at all times.
A question now presented itself to Daen's mind, so he asked it, feeling that it would help prevent an uncomfortable silence from enveloping the scene. "Might I enquire as to where you travel?"
