She had been walking through the forest for the past two days, acclamating herself with her new pack family. The leafy canopy above her shielded against the sun's stronger rays that threatened to bake the cool, moist earth below.
Chiyu sat beneath the shade of the trees, reliving her past as it flashed across her mind. She had lost track how many times the full moon had come and gone since she had known what it meant to be part of a family. Just to belong...and to be known. Her magic stirred within her, moving her heart to look to her future now.
She knew that she was born a healer. She had always been that way. Her skills might not be completely developed yet, but she was only one year old. She was one of the newest roans to the Shinkou pack, but she was ready to do whatever it took to become the pack's newest esun.
A tingling sensation crept up her spine; she had felt it many times before. She could sense that something wasn't right, and her defense instincts were kicking in. Home this may now be and safe as well, but Chiyu had learned enough to not ignore what her instincts told her. She felt her hackles rising on the back of her neck, and she knew something or someone was approaching.

Abina yawned and stretched near the mouth of the cave. The forest noises filling her ears and causing her tense shoulders to relax. She shook her black fur erasing sleep from her body. Abina scanned the greenness around her with the green of her own eyes. For almost a year now she had been a lone wolf. free and unchained by a pack. She licked at the healed wound on her left shoulder. It was a habit she had yet to shed. Memories of her last pack encounter filled her mind and she shook her fur again to relive herself of them.
She looked up at the roof of the trees. The sun was barely peeking through.
"Mid-day." she said silently to herself.
Abina walked over to a patch of sun and collapsed onto the warm forest floor letting the sun dance along her fur. Suddenly a presence flowed about her. Someone was here. She stood to her feet. Ready, if need be, to fight. Abina sniffed the air catching no scent. Slowly she followed her instinct to the presence. A female wolf stood about fifty feet from her.
Abina froze. Seeing the hackles on the other wolf raised she backed up slowly. Her dark paw came down on a branch. Abina closed her eyes in evasperation before speaking. In a calm smooth voice she said. "I mean you no harm." She stood still awaiting the other female's reply.

Chiyu stared at the female with eyes of cold blue steel. "I mean you no harm," she had said. The female's emerald eyes glowed against a backdrop of midnight, contrasting the bright landscape of the daylight forest. Chiyu knew the scent of every member of her new pack now, and, from standind upwind, she knew this female was not one of them.
Chiyu sat down hesistantly, then spoke. "I know you are not from around here, so how will I be able to trust your word? What is your business here?" Her eyes traveled from the female's face to what appeared to be the remains of an old wound on her left shoulder. The silver streaks in Chiyu's chacoal grey coat seemed to glitter as a flash of magic coursed through her body. All shred of caution left the yearling as she bounded over to the other female's side. "Are you alright? Your shoulder...what happened to you?" Realizing what she had just done, Chiyu backed up a few paces and hung her head low in embarrasment. "I--I'm sorry. May I know your name?"

She shivered at the young female's cold stare. She knew there would most likely be a fight. She tensed waiting for the female to strike. To Abina's amazement, the female sat. Abina stared at the female, curiousity igniting from her eyes. As the young female began to speak, Abina studied her adversary quietly. The female's coat was grey but it had a sense of colorfulness to it.
Suddenly the yearling charged. Abina began to growl, her hackles beginning to raise.
"Are you alright? Your shoulder...what happened to you?" The female had said. Abina just stood there, her guard up yet down.
"Was this a trick?" Abina thought to herself as she stared at the female intently. "Was this just a distraction so another wolf could strike?" Abina sniffed the air, but the movement from the other wolf caught her attention.
Abina looked on with amusement as the young female stammered out her apology. Seeing that this yearling was no threat, Abina shook out her fur before replying.
"I am Abina. Who are you?" She stared at the yearling awaiting her reply.
