The land had grown parched with thirst, dry, brittle cracks appearing within the soils of the nightwolves pack lands. The earth was seeking to be purged of these wrinkles and the sky had for a long time promised false illusions of rain.
Within the deprived lands, a form materialized just about the stretch of the horizion, shagged pelt the color of sand blowing about in thick chunked sections during the passing of wind. Shawn could feel it within his bones...things were changing and there was no way he had the power to stop or alter them. Soon...someone new would have to take his place.
Ears folded back against his large cranium, eyes closed as he listened to the sounds of nature. He needed to speak with his best friend and also the love of his life. Already he had a few candidates in mind...but only time would tell which of them would sparate themselves from the others and prove themselves responsible enough to be the next beta.
It was sad in a way...seeing how he and Solarfyre had never had any children. However, it had never seemed quite the right time and Shawn hadn't wanted to bring up his pups in a time when he wasn't always sure it would be he who was incontroll. Brown orbs glanced down at the necklace about his neck, it's pulse glowing a soft purplish red, reminding him that Loki still lingered within it's depths...the malicious trickster always plotting a way to break free and take controll over his body. Heaving a sigh, Shawn took a seat on the nearest boulder. He would wait for Solarfyre, and if nothing else, someone else would come along to hold his attention.

oOc| oh, i'm so sorry...i've been so inactive for the past month...gah...
Among the dry and brittle lands traipsed a flame-colored wolf, whose very appearance reminded one of wildfire. However, despite the flammability of everything surrounding her, nothing caught ablaze; Solarfyre had mastered her control over her talent in the many months and years that had passed. She trudged through the lands resolutely, knowing exactly whom she was looking for and where she would find him. Within moments he came into view. Sol picked up her pace not-so-subtly, and nuzzled Shawn adoringly and stepped back, eyes shining and yet also somewhat sad.
“It’s time, isn’t it?” she asked softly. She had known this would come; it wouldn’t be long before Shawn decided he could no longer hold his position as Beta in the Night Wolves Pack. She herself didn’t care whether she was Alpha Female or an Omega, as long as she was with Shawn. She had left the decision completely up to her mate. She was actually a little relieved. She tried not to shirk her duties as a Beta, but she found herself away from the pack more often than not. No doubt Shawn felt the same way. Plus, there was the little inconvenience who called himself Loki; the sole reason Shawn and Sol had never had pups.
“Who do you have in mind?” she asked Shawn now.

Shawn wasn't the least bit startled by Sol's gentle nuzzle, his body having well known that she was about to arrive. However, her the words that left Solarfyre's lips took him a bit by surprise. Sure...he knew it was that time, but he hadn't been willing to voice it aloud. Somehow, having them reach the air, it made it offical, a thought that both saddened and relieved him. "Aye...i have a few in mind. One more in particular than the other..." He turned to his mate, a warm smile sketching about his lips as his tongue flitted out to lick her cheek warmly. "But we all know how some wolves have no intention of becomming a higher rank."
A sigh left him as he rose to his feet, gently shaking off loose particles of dirt and grass clippings. "There are two...Irvine and Metalvash." Brown spheres turned towards his mate. "i was hoping to gather both here and together we could decide." Shawn smiled lightheartedly, sure, Sol had left him with the decision, yet he wanted them to both decide, feeling slightly uncomfortable in making the entire decision by himself.

Sol tilted her head; she did not know the wolves he'd spoken of. Nevertheless, she respected his decision. “Sounds wonderful,” she remarked. “But yes, I’ll gladly join you to make the final choice. So long as we don’t come to a stalemate.” She smiled; she knew they would agree, eventually. She wasn’t even sure she was necessary to make the decision, but she wanted to be there for Shawn. Besides, she’d much rather make sure for herself who would succeed them. “Let them come,” she said stoutly. “Let’s get this over with.”

A sturdy, yet slightly reluctant nod bobbed his head at his life companion's words. This could quite possibly be the last time he ever held the responsibility of Betamale. Not that he would just simply drop out of existance...nay, he would live on to make sure the pack was being properly taken care of. After all...he wasn't exactly all -that- old. Gently, he tilted back his head, the soft, sultry notes of his voice carrying over a great distance, summoning the two wolves forward. Now...he would wait.
After a while, the first of the two could be seen sauntering forward over the hill, his pelt rippling as the wind blew it around every which way, allowing the sunlight to reflect off the different levels of rusted red. Steel blue orbs shifted from Beta male, to beta female, and the proper respect was indeed shown. Tail was lowered and head was bowed, yet unlike other wolves, he held somewhat of a more sophisticated air to him, as though he were already a leader.
Not a moment or two after the approach of Metalvash, did Irvine appear, his chosen form that of a wolf, as he had two forms, a wolf and that of a human. His nearing was not quite as solomn as Metalvash's, though he did possess a quality of leadership that was on a completely different level than Metalvash...his being more easygoing, yet able to connect with people slightly better. It was a hard choice between the two, and both of them could easily hear Shawn explain different qualities about each of them, though neither spoke at the time.
((ok...basically what it comes down to, is that Metalvash is a more serious sort of guy, one whom everyone would respect or get their butt whooped on...while Irvine is more relaxed...go out and be with the people and get to know them while keeping order -shrug- hopefully you can see the difference xD I sorta know which one i want...either one would be fine xD -shrug-...have sol react anyway you want to them))

oOc| ooh, i know which one i want too...Solarfyre listened seriously to Shawn’s explanations, but showed no expression on her preferance. She looked at Metalvash, who seemed so somber and serious, and yet she also knew he could be a great leader. A good Beta. However…she whispered to Shawn, “I like them both, and I can see how the decision is difficult. But truly, I think Irvine would be better for the role of Beta. If I were a new wolf, or a lonely one, I would rather have a Beta who’s both a leader and a friend. But that is my opinion. If you prefer Metalvash, I can easily see him as a strong leader, too.” She smiled at both candidates, in a friendly way. She wanted to make them feel welcomed rather than judged, and she also wanted herself to feel less…replaced.

A soft nod issued from the beta male's head at his beloved mates words, taking them into full consideration."Both of them also have a rather special gift..." This time Shawn's voice carried out so that all could hear, and quite promptly he turned his attention the the two candidates. "Granted i've only seen Irvine's...though Metalvash has informed me he has a certain gift in this area as well."
Obviously waiting for a demonstration, both wolves took action, each changing at about the same time but in different ways. For Irvine, his fur was rappidly replaced by light colored skin and retreated for the most part ontop of his head, staying a bit past shoulder length in his human form, only it was held back by a ponytail. A hat also decorated the top of his head and his clothes were more western. With him he carried a pistol...his human weapon of choice. With a slightly cheesy grin he spun around and struck a pose, his layed back personality showing through.
Metalvash's transformation was a bit different. A powerful upsurge of air drafted about his feet, forcing all of his hair to stand on end. Quickly it was all compressed against his skin, becomming one with his flesh. In a flash of pure white light, and after the assumed illusion of what appeared to be angel wings sprouting from his back, a rather stunning Metalvash stood before them, his hair shagged and slightly hanging infront of his face. Silverish-green orbs peered out from underneath the reddish blonde tresses, a soft smirk lighting up the edges of his lips. He wasn't completely without expression afterall. The one odd thing however, was that in his humanform, he almost looked quite identicle to Shawn when they had been in dream world, the only real difference being their eye coloration.

oOc| dude! that's wild. talk about an unexpected twist. >.>'
Solarfyre acknowledged Irvine’s transformation with a little surprise, and observed that his human form suited him very well. He was indeed quite lax - maybe too lax…? Sol began to have a few misgivings. She’d liked Irvine especially, because he was so relaxed and yet willing to be a leader…nevertheless, she began to worry that he might forget some of his responsibilities. She decided to take Metalvash into further consideration - maybe he was the better choice…
So she turned to him, and saw his transformation, which was slightly different and impressive. But when she saw what - or rather, who - he resembled in that form, her eyes widened and her maw parted slightly. She looked at Shawn to see if he too noticed what she saw. It was uncanny how similar Metalvash was, in comparison with Shawn’s human form in the dream world…Sol was taken aback, and slightly suspicious. She tried to meet Shawn’s gaze, asking silently, What’s going on? Did you know about this? So shocking was the realization that Sol temporarily forgot about trying to choose the new Beta.

A small smirk appeared on Shawn's lips, nay, he hadn't known in advance, but he had definatly suspected it. Turning to Solarfyre, he shook his head slighlty. "As i said before, i had only seen Irvine's ability...Metalvash is a little more cautious in using his." his words were spoken softly, so that neither of the candidates could hear. "Have you made a decision? Personally, i think i know which of the two i'd rather have fill my place, but i want to hear you input once more..."
Irvine had settled down on the grass, his finger's toying with it lightly. As far as he was concerned, Metalvash seemed like a superior leader when compared to himself. Glancing up at the opposing figure, a small smirk appeared on his lips. There was no question about it...he was definatly born to lead.
Metalvash stood at attention, though his stance was slightly more relaxed than it had been when he had first arrived. Something about his appearance had struck some sort of memory or something with Solarfyre, though what it could be he couldn't imagine.

Solarfyre hesitated, glancing once more at Irvine. She imagined herself as a new wolf—not very hard, considering she had been a loner when she first came the pack—approaching a Beta, Irvine. She imagined being at ease with him. But then she also imagined herself in need and going to Irvine for help—what if he wasn’t serious enough? What if he didn’t know what to do? Sol decided that she couldn’t take that chance. Metalvash, she felt, would be far more stable and sure of himself and his abilities. And maybe she wasn’t giving Metalvash enough credit—maybe he could be a friendly, outgoing person. She felt a little torn between the two—Irvine had the potential of being a great Beta…but Metalvash…Metalvash actually was that leader. “I’ve changed my mind,” she whispered to Shawn. “I think…Metalvash…he would be the better of the two.” She hoped she wasn’t making a mistake. She turned and nodded at both Irvine and Metalvash, but couldn’t take her eyes off of Metalvash’s form. It was so creepily familiar…she finally tore her gaze away and resolved to ask someone—Shawn or Metalvash himself—about it later.

Leathery nostrils inhaled deeply, drawing in the scent of dry, brittle earth. Shawn knew now which of the two was to take his place as beta male, though the task of announcing it was still on his plate...something that wasn't exactly easy for him to do. "I believe i've made my decision...and should the one i choose not be able to carry out his duties at a given time, the other will take his place, momentarily or perminantly, depending on the situation." Brown eyes regarded the two candidates before him warmly, having had enough time to consider and reconsider this over and over again. It was time. "Irvine...although you show promise for a great leader, i believe that you still need some time to gather your thoughts and feelings on life in general...and so, it is Metalvash that i ask to take my place as BetaMale from this day forward. You shall carry the duties of watching over the pack and assisting the Alphas...congradulations." A warm smile greeted both the candidates as Shawn dipped his maw to the both of them. The deed was done...granted, he had no intention of disappearing altogether...nay, he would stay and watch over the lands as well...but for the most part, he would like to spend as much time as he could with Solarfyre.
Irvine grinned broadly, obviously pleased with the choice that had been made. In truth, he hadn't really wanted the position all that much...espcially with all that had happened in the short time he had arrived. Nodding to Metalvash, he spoke and stuck out his hand. "Congrads..."
Slightly befuddled at the sudden announcement, Metalvash absentmindely took Irvine's hand and shook slightly as Irvine pumped it up and down. Interestingly enough however, he quickly pulled himself together and bowed his head, sandyblonde hair falling in his face and covering his eyes as rich vocals spouted from his mouth. "I will not let you down..."
