"Yes, that they do. That's why we keep spread out. That way the humans have a less chance of killing us if we are all in one spot." he then sighed. "Not all humans that come this way are bad. Families visit here all the time. Of course, we only watch." he told her as they reached a small clearing. Several wolves were resting here, some with pups, others just lying around. There was a carcass of two dead deer nearby. "See if you can find anything in it. We will go hunting later."

Myrror wandered casually over to the carcasses, nibbling at the bits of meat that were left. She didn't want to appear too interested, as it might possibly offend these wolves, but she observed them out of the corner of her eye.

Some watched her, but most didn't. Kyra came bouncing along after a while, wagging her tail happily. "I think these are my pack!" she exclaimed to Myrror.

Myrror sighed, and turned a sorrowful glance upon Kyra. "Kyra..." she said slowly. "I... The wolf I just talked to said that they weren't your pack. But he also said that there are many packs scattered about this region. Perhaps one of them is your pack."

"But there's still hope!" she didn't seem upset. "Just because this pack isn't it, doesn't mean they aren't! Perhaps I came from one of those other packs." she tried to convince Myrror, or herself.

Myrror nodded. "Yes," she said. "There is still hope."

Kyra sniffed at the meat before beginning to eat, trying to get the last of the meat off. The other wolves didn't seem to mind. "Your young friend has quite the appetite." the wolf from before laughed slightly.

Myrror nodded. "Yes, she does, doesn't she?"

"We will definitely have to go hunting again. Care to join us? There is good game in these parts." he offered her.

Never one to pass up the opportunity of a hunt, Myrror replied "Yes, of course," and stood. She half extended her flame-hued wings in preparation for flight.

Now several of the wolves gazed in wonder and amazement at her wings. They had never seen such things on a wolf before. It was a whole new experience. Kyra looked up happily. She was used to her friend's wings, so the new had worn off.

Myrror flapped her wings once to stretch them. "So, when are we leaving?" she asked. She seemed not to notice that the other wolves were staring at her wings in awe.

"We'll leave now." Some stood up and followed the wolf into the forest. Kyra joined them, excited about the hunt.

"Sounds good to me," Myrror said with a grin. Her long legs carried her swiftly into the forest, although she was still limping from the gunshot wound.

Kyra stayed in step with Myrror. "Are you sure you feel okay?" she asked, worried for her friend still. That gunshot wound had been pretty bad.
