Hawk perked his ears to the word cave dweller. He looked to Ammolite silently, awaiting on her reaction. Yet he could not help but wonder if he had just gained a little insight into the history of his new aquaintance. Slowly his tail flicked behind his form as he set himself upon the ground. Those golden eyes of his darted inbetween Azarack and Ammolite. Another thought forced his attention to his mind. Was it meere coincidence that the Ammolite that Azarack knew lived in a cave as this Ammolite had? Was it just chance that this creature had appeared to let loose this knowledge so readily?

Ammolite took a step back and stared at the little lizard-creature, who for all his self-claimed “intelligence” seemed completely oblivious to her astonishment. Her eyes were completely dark orange, revealing her shock. “A half-demonic pup who played with stones…a cave-dweller…” Could she be the Ammolite he spoke of? Yet she did not recall ever knowing anything like Azarak. And that Ammolite was “half-demonic”…Ammolite didn’t know her heritage for sure. She’d never met her father and her mother never spoke of him, so she just assumed (damn that word!) that she was fully wolf, like her mother. What if that were not so? What if…
Thousands of questions bubbled up to her mind that she wanted to ask Azarak. Something that would confirm either that she was or wasn’t that pup which he spoke of. But she just stood there, stunned, thinking over the possibilities.
Azarak saved her, though unwittingly. He solved the mystery. “The thing about that Ammolite that was so unique and fascinating was that her eyes changed color. Remarkable!” He seemed utterly unaware of Ammolite’s own changing eyes.

Hawk quirked his brow as he heard Azarak's last words. He mumbled something to himself as he looked to Ammolite. Half demon was it? He couldn't even see the demon part within her being. Unless it was those eyes that captivated his attention. Never before had he seen that trait and he had not truly thought of it in the light he did now.
"Well it seems that either fate has conspired this meeting or there are two Ammolites who have color changing eyes."

“Eh?” Azarak turned around and stared at Ammolite. She looked back stoically. Azarak blinked. “They’re orange to me…unless they’re different to you, Hawk? I tell you, though, I can see as well as the next creature, and I trust my eyes quite well…”
Ammolite shook herself from her reverie. “I can’t believe it,” she whispered, looking up at Hawk. “I never knew, I swear! Oh, please…don’t dislike me. Demons aren’t all bad…I’ve met some myself, they’re very nice…” She seemed to be trying to convince herself as much as Hawk. She knew the general opinion of demons—and she also knew they weren’t wrong for hating them. And she was a half-demon herself! If Azarak wasn’t just making things up…then again, how would he, a little lizard, know? Her eyes became a little red and blue in addition to the orange.
Azarak noticed this latest change, and instantly knew. “Aha…” he muttered. “How ignorant I have been!”

Hawk was taken aback at her sudden outburst. His friends had always told him he looked to be part angel. This wolven held no great liking to demons, yet nor did he hate them. Quickly he offered a reasurring smile to his friend. 'Do not worry Ammolite. You may be part demon but it matters not. You have not attacked me have you?" Slowly those golden eyes of his looked over to Azarak. For some reason he doubted that the lizard was as ignorant as he claimed to be.

Ammolite looked up at Hawk gratefully, believing him. At least, she consoled herself, she had one friend in the world. One friend who did not care for her recently discovered demonic heritage. Yet she was still amazed. She knew a little more about her father - he was a demon. A good one, or bad? And why did he leave her mother and her? There were plenty other demons in the caves. The questions she had plagued herself with concerning her father were all rushing back to her, only with a stronger intensity than before. "Did you know my father?" she burst out, staring at Azarak.
Azarak tilted his head to one side, eyeing both Ammolite and Hawk curiously. But he did not answer Ammolite's question directly. "Forgive me for not recognizing you immediately," he said to her. "But did you honestly not know your father was a demon? How strange to be kept so ignorant." Despite his wording, he was not insulting her; he was merely surprised that no one had ever told her. He also appeared disinclined to speak about Ammolite's father, if it could be assumed he knew him at all.

Hawk felt a twinge in the back of his mind. Azarak was avoiding the question, or that how this wolven saw it. Yet he remained silent as he looked between his new friend and the little lizard-like being. Slowly his tail flicked in a serpentine fashion beneath him. Yet patience had never been his strong point as he spoke up. Hoping slightly that his assumption proved to be true.
"You seem to be avoiding her question Azarak. And do not try and claim you did not know her father. For how do you not know that her mother was not the one who was a demon?"

Azarak grinned in that contorted way of his. "I believe I like your friend," he remarked to Ammolite. "He's very quick. You caught me, Hawk. I was avoiding the question." He dipped his lizardlike head to Ammolite. "I knew of your father. Never met him myself, frankly. From what little I've heard, however, he was a strange one, even for demons. Vanished years ago. No one knows where to, or why. But they'd all like to know." There seemed to be an implication there, but Azarak didn't say anything more.
"I'd like to know too," Ammolite said quietly. She looked from Azarak to Hawk, her eyes such a strange combination of colors it was hard to tell what was what. She was obviously feeling a complexity of emotions. She had no idea what to do now. Should she just meander around Shinkou, exploring aimlessly? She could not do that, not with this knowledge of her father! This burning curiosity inside her would overcome her. But what was she to do? A terrible feeling of helplessness came over her. "What now?" she asked, her tone trembling on the edge of despair.

Hawk seemed to sense his friend's despair. Slowly he rose from his sitting position to tread over to her. He offered a comforting nuzzle to her side before speaking in a friendly tone. "I will help you find your father..." Quickly he returned his attention back to Azarak. His eyes narrowed in suspiscion to his words. It was then he continued his sentance. "...as soon as you tell me exactly who they are?"
OOC: Bah. I apologize for my small posts. I'm swamped with things to do.

Ammolite started, surprised by Hawk's vow of loyalty. She was touched, actually, and her eyes cleared to yellow mixed with lilac. "Thank you, Hawk," she said earnestly, "but I don't know if it'll do much good. I don't think it's possible to find him now..." Her voice trailed off.
Azarak rolled his eyes subtly but addressed Hawk. "Who 'they' are is none of your concern. 'They' are who sent me, that's all you need to know. For, behold! Fortune smiles upon you today. By fate and coincidence, I just happen to be looking for your father myself. That's why I'm out here, in this dratted sunlight, getting practically crushed to death by giant bamboo stalks. Hey, I've a brilliant idea," he added dryly, "why don't we all band together and search for him as a group?" Despite his wryness, it seemed to be a legitimate question.

Hawk looked to Azarak for a moment. He was wary to the offer of companionship in the search. The wolven still refused to believe that all of these occurances were simple coincidence. Yet he saw no threat in this little lizard, not yet atleast. His head nodded once in agreement to the offer.
"I see no harm that can come from it. Not yet atleast. So you are welcome to join in the search as long as Ammolite agrees to it."
Slowly his golden gaze looked to his friend. Offering a small smile as his tail flicked slowly. His pointed ears were perked as he awaited her response to his words.

"Oh, of course!" said Ammolite, completely trusting as usual. "If you're looking for him too, Azarak, we'd love to have your company. You know most about him, anyway, even if you've never met him." She smiled at the lizard and at Hawk, her spirits lifted. There was hope yet! She had to find him. And with Hawk and Azarak at her side, that was suddenly very possible.
"Fantastic," said Azarak. "Now, I hope you don't have friends or mates or second-cousins you have to say good-bye to, because I'd like to get started right away. We'll have to go back the caves, Ammolite, just so you knew. Back Underground. Thanks be to whoever cares! Sunlight gives me headaches." The lizard-creature had no sooner finished speaking than he scuttled off in the direction of the underground caverns where Ammolite had once lived, looking back once to make sure Ammolite and Hawk would follow.
"Oh, the caves," Ammolite breathed. "It will be so nice to see them again. Hawk, are you sure you're okay with coming with us?"

Hawk began to follow Azarak. Yet he paused and looked at Ammolite. He waited until she was near before whispering his suspiscions into her ear, his eyes watching where the lizard had disapeared. "I find it hard to believe that our little friend is here to help us by coincidence. Be on alert." Before she could comment on his words he followed after the lizard-like creature. His eyes looked around the lands with awe. Things had changed so much since he had last gazed upon the lands. Yet never before had he seen this forest of bamboo. The more he trekked through it, the more he felt himself become amazed.

Ammolite followed Hawk and Azarak wordlessly, nothing short of amazed. Did Hawk really mistrust the lizard that much? Azarak had told her that her father was a demon - and, better yet, alive! Or so he believed. Azarak had given her hope to complete her long-sought-after quest, to slake the thirst of her everlasting curiosity. But she took Hawk's words to heart, though they greatly troubled her. She followed steadily after Hawk, thinking how nice it would be to be back Underground once more. She caught Hawk admiring the Forest of Bamboo and smiled. She knew his feeling: it was similar to the way she felt when she first came to the Surface, though that was for the first time and she was overwhelmed. Still, she and Hawk had something in common: the fresh experiences of a new world.
Azarak noticed that it did not take long for Hawk and Ammolite to catch up with him, and, indeed, to surpass him. Their strides were so much larger than his! He decided that, to save time, he would catch a ride on one of them. Hawk, he assumed, mistrusted him and would not deign to let him ride. But Ammolite would be happy to carry the lizard. So Azarak said, "Excuse me, Ammolite, but you would mind carrying me? I am so very small, you see..." Without waiting for her obliging smile, he scuttled up her leg and settled comfortably on her back. "To the caves," he said, looking towards the Great Mountains. "I trust you know the way."

Hawk paused along with the others as Azarak climbed atop Ammolite. His tail flicked slowly as he looked at the lizard. Despite his suspicions, he remained an air of calmness and respect around the curious little being. If his wariness proved to be unfounded, he did not want to have unnecessarily insulted such a helpful being. His angelic wings flexed slightly before pulling close to his chest. Slowly he gazed upon the other two, allowing Ammolite to take the lead. Never before had he been to the Underground so thus he did not know the path on which to walk.
"I know not the way to reach our destination. Can you lead the way Ammolite?" The mascu had another reason to be the follower. He wanted to keep his eyes on both of the two. Despite how much he trusted the femme, he had just met her not long ago. After being betrayed by one he had thought to be a friend for many winters his ability to truly trust was obvious hindered.
