The thick cloud cover omitted the sunset from view, leaving the steady darkening of the land and the rising chill the only sign of the onset of night. The small woodland creatures sensed this change, and began the age-old process of settling themselves into the relative safety their nests and burrows, ever aware of the danger lurking all around them. In the failing light a swift, wraithlike figure made its way into the pack lands. The creature did not exercise much caution, as you might expect an intruder to, but rather plodded steadily forward as though it did not take any particular notice of the strong scent of the residing pack. The animal’s sly yellow eyes betrayed him, though. They slid warily to and fro, searching for any signs of cunning movement. In the blackness of the thick forest his contrasting pelt was quite conspicuous, the blemished ivory reflecting a stray hint of light here and there. As the tress became more sparse, his pulse quickened, breath escaping his jaws in a thin white mist. The trees broke up ahead and revealed a massive clearing where the scent of the others was almost overpowering. The great animal paused a moment, lowering his head and cocking his silken ears forward. After this moment of apparent indecision, one paw was set before the other and the wolf slipped into the open.

In a near by bush a sleek female wolf, of a black colour with a white arrowhead patch locationed on her chest, and a slight white on her mussel lie waiting, guarding, she was watching for trespassers. She tentatively licked her paws but was then sharply distracted by the sight of this large bulky male her courage almost seemed to fade from her, but Retreat was unacceptable. A slight breeze ruffled her dark sodden fur. It was now or never, her hackles raised and she let out a menacing snarl. "Get off our territory NOW." She yapped but her voice was a little too high, a little too tight, it showed her… uncomfort with the situation, her reluctance to be there but still she gave the aura that she could give a good battle.
