Exilient's slender figure stood at the edge of the ocean, her head drooped and her orbs were focused on the shimmering wrinkles in the water. She took a deep breath and exhaled into the shimmering light above her. She black pelt lit up at the sun hit it. Then she looked back to the water, thoughts flowing through her mind, Who was she?
Ex looked deep into the orbs of her reflection, looking at the confusion that she could no longer hide. A mad paw splashed the image and she felt herself shifting to her demon side. She calmed down so not to waste her energy, she hated the flaws in her magic. Than again she wondered, Who am I?
She thought about her tragic past, full of loss and exile, she couldn't remember happiness. She thought about her alphas, wondering if she meant anything to them when they had so many other interesting wolves to watch out for. She shakes her head, wanting to know she has meaning to someone, but she can't find her place. Stubornly she begins tearing at the shimmering pelt of the ocean, and feels an energy loss as she takes on demon form in her fury. It had been stated before that she needed to learn to control her shape-shifting.

Standing on the sandy shore, a plain, homely wolf was also studying his reflection. It had long since he had wanted to destroy himself because of appearance, obsessing over his lack of attractiveness, but it was still sobering to see his patchy, mud-brown-with-forest-green fur and his eyes the color of wet bark. This uncomely appearance was what had caused him, as an insecure pup, to withdraw from others’ company, and consequently, even though he cared less about what others thought about how he looked, he still lacked social skills.
Also, his ability was a secret he did not like others to know. It gave him the excuse to lurk and watch, but never come out and live. He was truly an offspring of shadows, not malevolent, but an observer and listener. It was a lonely life, but he had gotten used to the loneliness. Sometimes his sisters came to check on him, but they had their own lives and friends and families to take care of. They also saw the loner in Shade, and respected his privacy.
Loner he was, but paradoxically he found he could never leave the land of his birth, Shinkou Ookami. He clung to the shadows, hardly ever interacting with anyone, but unwilling to leave them behind. It was his life, and he had little to complain about. So why leave?
Shade sighed and looked up from his unflattering reflection, staring down the beach. He saw that he was not alone, and there were no shadows in which to hide. He watched the figure nervously, hoping it wouldn’t approach him. It didn’t. Shade, relieved, instead just watched, as was his wont. The figure did not move, appearing to gaze deeply into the water. Sun glinted off black fur, revealing that the figure was a wolf. Curious, Shade wondered what he or she would do.
Suddenly, the wolf began to attack the very ocean. Shade was alarmed as she flung herself into the water, tearing at it viciously. Shade thought of the suicides he had heard tell of, of desperate and hopeless creatures throwing themselves into the ocean to let it do its work. Or even worse, those who went out too far and could not swim well enough, and the ocean swallowed them. Shade was not a social wolf, but he would not be a bystander now.
He ran along the shore, splashing through the water as it rolled up on the beach. He slowed down when he realized that the wolf was just splashing around, albeit violently, but not actually causing jeopardy to herself. But he was startled to see that what he had taken for a wolf appeared more demonic up close. Shade continued to approach her, but more cautiously now. Demons were tricky things to deal with.
“Excuse me, but are you all right?”

The demonic wolf's ears perked up at the sound of another voice. Black satin pelt was drenched as she rolled in the water, clearly losing energy from shifting to a demonic form. She almost changed back to her normal, timber wolf self, but with lack of strength only came halfway.
"Uh, yeah, I'm fine."
Her voice sounded a bit flustered, but not evil. She sounded gentle, and lost. You could tell by her eyes that the last thing she expected was another wolf. She finished shifting into her regular body using the last of her energy, and then managed to wobble to her feet.
She looked back at her rugged appearance, and then at the other wolf. He was like her, not the flattering. Between chocolate, black, and white fur, plus a few markings, she wasn't the best looking, only her personality and angelic form were pleasing. And as she was so wet, the colors of her pelt blended to make odd shades and hues.
Her claws suddenly dug deep into the slushy sand, and she thought she fall over, she jerked her head in a direction, motioning shade to come with her. She was glad to have company, of any sort. Before she headed over, she emitted,"My name is Exilient, but please call me Ex." Then she stumbled over to a pile of brush and lay down, her exhausted body barely able to move.

Shade felt immediately embarrassed when he saw that the she-wolf was unharmed and not in any kind of danger. He had overreacted…damn, he just wasn’t good at assessing certain situations, was he? “Uh, sorry, I just thought…you were splashing and…” Just give it up. He fell silent, pawing sand awkwardly.
From what he had observed of her, though, he thought she looked like a fairly nice, normal wolf. He did not even think anything of her unremarkable appearance; who was he ever to judge another by the way she looked? It was even interesting seeing her fur mix up when drenched in water.
To Shade’s surprise and dismay, she suddenly stumbled on the shore, barely managing to reach a soft bush before collapsing almost completely. Shade had no idea how to deal with a situation like this, so he just followed awkwardly when she motioned for him to. Standing uncertainly, he stammered, “Uh, Exilient—Ex—it’s, well, it’s nice to meet you.” A pause. Then, “Oh, right, you probably want to know…um, I’m Shade.” Another pause while Shade watched her closely. He was good at observing, if nothing else. “Are you, uh…sure you’re okay? You look, well, you don’t seem to have much energy. Sorry if I’m wrong,” he added hastily.
oOc| 6/5/07 EDIT: I'm taking Shade out of this roleplay. Sorry. =(
