Shinkou and Akeru Ranks:
Roan- New members of the pack. These are wolves that have joined recently who have yet to receive an official rank or find a place in the pack. Once they feel more at home Roan may establish for themselves a more permanent ranking title.
Pup- Younger wolves of the pack between the ages of newborn and 6 months. Unless they find themselves suited to a more specific rank, pups will usually become Oru.
Oru- The civilians of the pack. Wolves who simply don't have a specified rank that they devote themselves to, though they will help out where ever they are needed. It is not uncommon for Oru to change their rank if they find a job they are well suited for in the pack.
Kai- (Runner)
Message carriers. The land of Shinkou is a large one and at times it is difficult to relay messages when wolves are spread out so far. Kai make up for the distance by carrying messages and news to wolves and pack mates that they've been asked to find.
Mori- (Babysitter)
With Shinkou and Akeru being such large packs, there are plenty of pups that are in need of being watched. Mori are chosen to keep up the duty of making sure the pups don't get into too much trouble as well as teaching them the ways of life. Aside from simply babysitting, Mori will teach the youngest generations how to live in a pack or hunt as a group.
Reku- (Scout)
Giaku may have been expelled from the lands of Shinkou but that doesn't mean they are no longer a threat. Thus Reku are chosen to patrol the territory boundaries and keep the alphas informed about border conditions. They also keep tabs on unwelcome intruders, making sure that lone wolves or rival packs do not try to encroach on Shinkou's territory. Reku are adept at acting as soldiers in times of battle.
Sakou- (Hunter)
As the meaning of the title states, Sakou are the ones who keep the pack fed. With so many wolves in Shinkou and Akeru combined it can sometimes be difficult to keep every member content with food. Hunters are constantly bringing their kills into gathering areas, allowing others to gorge on the meat only after they've had their fill. Sakou who feel up to the challenge act as soldiers in times of battle.
Sho-un (Guide)
For detailed information about Sho-un and creating one, read the Sho-un Special Rank explanation.
Sho-un are wolves who do not have their own magic, and so act as guides and protectors of the spirits that are born from the waters of Mizu Lake. They make sure that new spirits are able to journey outside of the Shinkou boundaries safely since new born spirits are nearly defenseless. Sho-un also make sure that negative spirits don't cause members of Shinkou and Akeru any trouble. Sometimes it is common that in the line of work, a spirit born from the lake will stay with the guide that helped them and may eventually form an eternal bond with their Sho-un. Through their spirit partners, Sho-un are able to use conflicting magics, something that is not available to non Sho-un.
Sho-un are also special individuals who can hear spirits 'speak' while others cannot. Sho-un will often use their bonded spirits to fight as mages and soldiers in times of battle.
Eremt (Elementalist)
For detailed information about Eremt and creating one, read the Eremt Special Rank explanation.
Eremt are unique wolves in that they have the ability to use more than two different elemental types of magic, even if those magics conflict. However, Eremt can only have up to six spells. Eremt are like the mages of the pack and act as distance attackers during times of war. Despite their great power over magic, they are very physically weak and often fall easily if matched against a strong warrior.
Esun- (Healer)
Also known as- Shamans, Medics, Druids, etc.
Wolves that are knowledgeable with medicine or skilled with healing magics. These are the wolves to come to when you've been injured or become sick.
Gran- (Elder)
The older wolves of the pack who have lived most of their lives. If they don't have the energy to help pack members with words of wisdom or physical labor, they usually lay around watching pups and reminiscing about the good old days. Wolves who have gotten to the age of a Gran, but who have held ranks in the past, may keep their original rank by placing the Gran rank in front. (Example: An old Sakou Wolf would become: Gran Sakou )
Giaku Ranks-
Though the ranks are located here, there is also a Giaku Ranks page that can be found in the actual Giaku roleplay board.
Elder-
Most elderly wolves have been through more things most could never comprehend. Most regard the Elders for their wisdom and stories. Since their life is nearly over, they are allowed to retire and live the rest of their life in peace. They bear no particular job save for taking it upon themselves to pass on their wisdom and lessons on to the more young, bold, and brash. A retired wolf may still hold on to his old rank, but may call himself Elder-Soldier or Elder-Scout, for example.
Assassin-
Though not well known among the citizens of Giaku, this austere and intimidating elite set of agents answer to the Emperor alone. He chooses them for their tremendous skill that sets them apart from everyone else. Where their strength, wit, and cunning are considerable, their ability to linger in the shadows are even greater.
Soldier-
The soldiers are a vast legion that are regarded with respect for their services to the empire. They are protectors, guardians, fighters, and warriors, and obey the wishes of the Emperor's General without some matter of uncertainty crossing their minds. What you do in life will be carried on to eternity.
Scout-
The most cunning, lithe, and fast are bestowed the rank as Scout. Their duty is to scout the canyons to keep an eagle eye on the horizon, to see if their enemy is moving in. Otherwise, they greet newcomers, usually with suspicion. They obey the orders from the Generals, Emperor, and Empress. They are also given the duty as spies and delivery service from anyone among the High Senate.
Hunter-
They rally hunts together and keep food coming daily if they must, to keep the nation well fed and growing. The hunters are chosen for their ability to work as a team, and incredible endurance and stamina mentally and physically.
Apprentice-
Those that have not showed much skill in anything is usually labeled as an apprentice in Giaku, for every wolf must be good at something, and must contribute to it. Thus, a young wolf might take on a master and learn from his expertise.
Pup-
The future of Giaku. If a newborn pup shows signs of illness, deformity, or weakness, they are abandoned or killed. Though cruel, it is necessary to maintain a strong empire if they are to defeat Shinkou. Pups are ideally immune to the goings on of Giaku until they reach a certain age of maturity; that single point in their lifetime when they must choose what path hey will follow.
Slave-
Giaku shows no mercy. If someone among their empire conducts treachery, their status instantly lowers them as a slave. They are the ones that supply to the emperor's every whim, as well as his council. They do the most menial of tasks that helps build Giaku. Death or lifelong torment is common.
Novus-
Latin for "New". Those new individuals that wish to aid Giaku for its cause are called Novus. They are held under high scrutiny and are judged most harshly, for the Novus come from the outside and cannot be trusted until they prove themselves worthy to be among the respected ranks of Giaku's world.
Traitor-
If there is a rank lower than a slave, it would be traitor. A traitor is a someone that once condoned the empire's cause, but for one reason or another betrayed and abandoned it. To have a title as 'traitor' among a tough nation like Giaku means certain death.
