Cold winds swept across the lands, the sky a pale gray color with the snow clouds that were constantly hanging above, showing now and then glimpses of the light golden rays that would pierce through them and shimmer down upon the land below. The land... remembered only as lush, green, and beautiful held so many memories that drifted through it. The ground was covered by a thick, soft, cold blanket of snow that had fallen over the time of the winter months that had been passing by. For the lands were in the midst of winter at this point, the tall trees of the forest covered by snow that fell off their branches or needles in piles upon the white blanket with the cold wind that swept along, bringing yet more flakes with it. No birds chirped in those frozen skies, no pups played joyously in the once tall, lush field, or any other forms of life for that matter. Deer feasted on the bark of the trees, and the only sounds that filled the peaceful air were those of a deer or other creature such as a wolf crunching through the blanket of snow.
Yes, indeed, a wolf. Yet, to one gazing at the beauty of this seemingly never ending white, they would perhaps not see this wolf. She was as if a ghost on the winds, or a simple illusion, invisible against the endless white. Her pelt was of the purest white, ripples of pale blue here and there though faintly seen giving her camoflouge against the snowy scene. The only thing that might give her away, were her pale blue colored eyes that looked about her in a rather happy manner. Tracks were left seemingly endless behind her, her bushy white tail wagging as she trotted easily along, her strong yet petite form moving smoothly. Her round, elegant head was carried high, round ears perked and her great, white wings were settled at her sides, evident shows of pale blue marked on her large feathers.
She paused, glancing around momentarily, then suddenly burst forth in the fresh snow, paws flying and sending snow up in heaps, only to be whipped around by the cold winds. A smile formed on her white lips, she beginning to play in the snow. She swirved suddenly, catching herself easily on her paws, turning and zig-zagging along. She began to spin in circles, and then to roll about, standing and rolling once again as if doing summer-saults. To one looking on, it seemed as though she were doing a playful dance, she looking as though she were a winter goddess of some sort, fitting in perfectly with the peaceful setting. She sent up a cheery howl in this cold weather, it warm and playful and singing through the quiet air, echoing beautifully before fading away.
She hoped perhaps someone would come along and join her in her play. At this point, one would not be able to tell she had only had pups the spring before, oh so long ago it seemed now to her. Her three adventurous pups were nearly grown. Amazing as it was for her to think about. She knew of their whereabouts, yet they were seemingly always getting into mischief of some kind, even at almost a year old. Yet, at the thought of her pups, she thought of her dear mate: Icewolf. She paused in her "snow dance", lying on her back gazing up at the pale gray sky and uttering a soft sigh to no one. There had been so much hurt, so much tragedy lately in these lands. Even now she found it difficult to do as she was doing now, playing, enjoying life. Even more so: at this point, Icewolf would be training the band of wolves he'd gathered to reform the Defenders. She had wished him the best of luck, yet- she longed to be there by his side helping him, watching and learning beside him, and meeting those whom she would soon call family in a way.
She closed her eyes, letting the flakes fall on her pale coat and the cold wind ripple through her thick fur. She let her mind drift to memories and thoughts of all that had happened since she had come to these lands, and she let her great wings stretch, they lying in the blanket of snow now, making imprints that if she should rise would seem as though an angel had been playing in the snow that cold winter's day.
