A Place Called Home

[Relairah]

She faintly heard Zach's words to the wolf-girl creature. They were at first evident, then began to grow distant. She felt herself moving slightly and relaxed even more under the more comfortable position. She faintly murmured, "Thank you, Zach," a smile growing on her pink lips. Her eyes faintly opening, revealing slightly the sapphire blue at the sound of the wolf-girl creature's words, and her echoing laugh. 'Not for good?' She didn't ask aloud, but instead silently wondered what the 'monster' meant. Yet her thoughts weren't to remain on it for too long. She was awake only long enough afterward to notice the man that suddenly entered the scene, avoided the 'monster', barely, and got up looking rather embarrassed. He seemed different than the other who had just departed, yet she didn't let herself worry. She felt safe in Zach's arms, and with that she drifted off to sleep, her arms still about his neck, and her head resting on his shoulder.

Quietly, he took heed of the wolfs warnings but did he fear them? No. He began to walk, knowing that the little girl currently hugging his neck was about to fall off into dream land, and that the temprature was starting to drop with the coming of night. But his walk the rest of the way home was cut short with the encounter of another human being. Oh for Petes sake this was getting old. He resisted the urge to roll his eyes. He left his sword in under his cloak, feeling the no need to pull it out. What had happened to this village? It use to be so safe around this area. Now he was starting to fear that something may have happened to their defenses.

'Go home, kid.' He said rather bitterly and started to walk, wanting to get home and rest his feet and mind. Not to mention getting Mel to bed so she can get some proper sleep.

Justin's attitude changed as the man told him to leave. He glared at the dude for a moment, then started to search through the bushes for his lost sword. He found it, annoucing so with a triumphant, "Hah!" and sheathing it. He took one last look at the man and child, then turned, took a step, and yelled out with pain. He fell to his knees, clutching his head, and lay on the ground for a moment, shaking witht he pain. He had been having these attacks alot for some strange reason. He would end up with a strange sense afterwards, and though he did not yet know it, he had psychic powers. He had people after him because of it, that wanted to make him his slave and use him as a weapon, but he still had no idea about it. The chafing on his wrists was once more exposed as he clutched his head in pain, then sighed as it stopped, letting his head droop for a moment.
He suddenly got a strange sensation that his previous captors were headed for him once again. He ran in front of the retreating man, and stopped, as if he had forgotten what he was about to say. "Do you - Erm - I mean, do you-?... Ah, crap......" He sighed, and tried once more. "Where's the nearest village?" he asked. He was making up a plan as he went, and was almost pleading with his question.

Zach had came to a sudden hault as the young lad moved in front of him. For a patient man, the human was starting to lose it. He could tolerate many things, but this, all this was getting just outrageous. And what kind of question was that? Wheres the nearest village. Blue eyes flickered towards the village just over their, a hop skip and a jump and he would be there. 'The village doesnt take kindly to strangers,' He said meaning it with his whole heart, 'Your best bet would continue north to one of the larger cities.'

With that said, he readjusted the sleeping girl that he was holding and continued on his way. This snow seemed to be getting colder and so was his heart.

"Really, I could never have told," he said sarcastically. "You welcomed me oh so nicely. Thanks for your advice, I'll be on my way now." He turned sharply on his heels, and headed North. "Oh, and just for the info, you might want to warn your village. There are people coming, burning villages and taking in survivors as slaves. Wouldn't want her to get hurt." A glance was shot at the young girl cradled in the man's arms, and he shrugged, and continued on his way.

If thats the case, Zach was glad the boy wasn't following or going towards his village. "Those peoples" will have more then a handful to deal with when they encounter the village. See, Zach had a secret. A secret that anyone would have a hard time believing, and it wasnt the fact that he was deaf in his right ear. Before he left, he was granted a certain power, one that humans could not obtain on their own. He had help, but in time that his village did need him, they would find out how threatening this hunter could be.

The small girl stirred slightly in her sleep, her face changing and she groaning softly. She was dreaming, who knows of what. She gently seemed to be calm again before her lips moved, she muttering things softly in her sleep. "No... Momma... Daddy... don't leave me." Tears surfaced on the corners of her closed eyes, perhaps it wasn't so mysterious after all. She was having a dream of her past. She was still sleeping, and yet, her saddened expression on her face as she slept slowly changed to calm again and then fear. Her dreams kept changing around. "No... I... monsters..." Her sentences weren't very complete but it didn't much matter. She hadn't been sleeping very long at all, indeed it had only been a few minutes, but she seemed unable to get any real sleep at all.

Her eyes suddenly burst open, revealing those bright blue eyes that had so innocently looked at Zach before. Yet now they were full of fear and warning. She seemed to stare into nowhere, as if still asleep with her eyes open. "Zach... look out... monsters... coming..." Her voice was soft so that only he would be able to hear her, if he still held her close in his arms. She was warning him of the approaching wolves on the village. She knew nothing of Zach's secret, and thus she wanted him and his village to be safe. Her experience with monsters had her convinced they were dangerous no matter what the circumstances.

Her fingers moved and clutched the necklace about her neck gently, and her eyes began to glow a soft, whitish blue, brightening from their normal color. She didn't remember it, at all, the last time she had used power to save someone. Last time it had been herself, from wolves that had attacked her when she'd been roaming. Thus she had no concept or control over it, neither did she even know about it. All she knew was that she had blanked out and awoken safe from the monsters somewhere in the forest. That was a few years before. A blue teardrop seemed to slowly be fading into her forehead, and the necklace she clutched so tightly was glowing as well. Unless Zach calmed her down... who knew what would happen. At this point, the necklace had taken charge to protect her as it was created to do based on her wavering emotions.

Zach had glanced down briefly as he heard begin to speak. He was amazed by what he was witnessing. Her necklace, much like his own used to do, began to glow. Not only that, but the teardropped shaped object began to form on her forehead. He stopped walking, the village just a few steps away, and a few more to the center where his house was located. She was whispering, warning him. In a way he felt afraid, he had no idea that she wasnt human, but thats not what was making him afraid. It was the fact that he didnt know what she was capable of.

'Mel, Mel,' He whispered gently touching her cheek. 'Mel wake up.' He encouraged trying not to freak her out too much. He just didnt know what was going on. And so close to the village he didnt want to disturb any villagers either.
