It had been a while since Aiko had smelled another wolf, and she was starting to get worried as her stomach growled more often than usual. It had been a few days since she had seen any meat, a couple more since she had even eaten, and she was starting to get worried that she might not get any. Many times that day, she had smelled some, but they were always near these weird, light brown-colored, upright standing beings, which she thought may be demons. She didn't dare go near them, and since had been walking away from their settlements, getting lost in the forest as she didn't know where she was going. Part of her wished she had gone against her instincts and tried approaching them, but the other part of her feared what may have happened if she had done that. Either way, it was a scary thought for her, and, unlike many things, didn't particularly peak her interest.
She was so tired now that she couldn't fly up to the branches, so she had to stay low and hide in bushes when possible, which wasn't very easy nor would it have probably worked. As she walked along, she all of a sudden came to clearing, within it lay a log and the bones of a long dead doe, obviously killed by one of the few wovles that roamed this place. She ran up to it, looking at it it, and pulled at a few of the bones, but it was picked completely clean, not even the marrow could be gotten to. Her frown embedded itself even more into her face as she realized that this place might not offer her anything after all, and, sadly, walked away from the deer back into the forest.
She saw a bug and thought about what it would feel like to be it, to be able to have all this grass around to eat, not having to be hungry, but her stomach interrupted her thoughts. She tried pouncing on another bug, but she quickly realized she was too weak to even do that, and that playing would not be an option, no matter how fun it seemed. Sighing, she kept walking, tail going further between her legs and ears lowering further as she began to wonder again what exactly had happened to her mother. It wasn't that hard to figure out that her mother was either taken prisoner or killed, but what exactly had those wolves done to her, and who were they anyway? She just missed her very much, she wanted to feel her warmth curling around her again, her kind words wispering in her ears in order to make her happier after playing a bit.
Finally, finding nothing at all around and growing very tired, her legs throbbing, she sighed and laid down upon a moss-laiden log, curling up in a tiny, furry ball. The moss actually made a nice bed, and her legs thanked her for stopping as they throbbed beneath her, telling her that she had been wandering for far too long. Perhaps this was what adults had to deal with everyday, she wondered, perhaps they didn't get food for long periods of time as well, but at least they could hunt. She wondered how the adults hunted, it seemed so complex trying to take down another animal, not to mention how huge they seemed to her. Her eyes closed and her breathing turned deep, but she kept her ears erect and her muscles tensed if anything decided to show themselves. At least, she did for a few minutes, before her mind was gripped by sleep's tender yet harsh hands.

The human lands. Abunage. Amatsu was a world trekker. One who went everywhere. Today's adventure would be here. This time, the humans wouldn't be stupid enough to try and bring him down for his meat. Hopefully, the dog and his human pack learned their lesson the last time. When Amatsu had to save a fellow druin. Truth be told, he was disgusted then hairless apes were able to actually take down a full grown druin. Amatsu was just sniffing around for the moment. Checking around the woods for some dinner. What he found instead, was the scent of a pup.
".... What kind of dumbass parent leaves their kid in the freakin ape lands?"
He muttered to himself with sigh. The pup had probebly been abondoned by its parents. Amatsu wouldn't be one to look it, but he was actually a very good parent. Or so he liked to believe. With a heavy sigh, Amatsu followed the scent. Soon finding the female Druin sleeping. Only, she wasn't a druin. She was the smaller offbreed Amatsu had been told of. Apparently, they were called "Drunin's" or some such name. The great beast made his way over to her, sitting down next to her, his great tail wrapping around her gently in a hug.
"Wake up baby girl... What are you doing here?"
He asked in his softest voice .

Aiko felt the great tail wrap around her, but it felt kind of like when her mother used to carry her, so she didn't think much of it at first. Her mind suddenly clicked, and she remembered her mother wasn't there, so she sat straight up, looking about before seeing the gigantic being which did look much like his mother. Indeed, he had that same kindness in his voice that most other beings hadn't shown her, which calmed her suddenly panicked mind further. She was still a little on edge, as he was a stranger, someone whom her mom said she shouldn't trust, as well as the fact he was so huge, but she felt reassured by everything he had done so far, and was curious about him as well. Perhaps he would help her get food, as her tummy was once again reminding her that she was in desperate need for some.
Shyly, she said, "I don't know why I'm here, my mommy left and never came back a while ago and since I've just been walking about. Mom says strangers are bad, that they might try to hurt me, you aren't going to hurt me are you?" She hoped that he wouldn't try to hurt her, she really didn't want him to turn out to be a bad stranger, he seemed to nice to be one of them. As she looked at him she wondered how he had gotten so big, he was much bigger than her mom, but he still looked similar to her, just much bigger. Could it be that there was someone looking after her like the stories her mother used to tell her, or perhaps one of those beings that she had heard some wolves talking about, what they called "angels". She really didn't know either way, but as always, she was curious to find out more about him.

Yep. Amatsu had a soft spot for hapless females and pups. Seeing so much war and death in the world had softened him to the plight of others. He himself however, was every bit the battle maniac he was over six hundred years ago. Old habits died hard and all that. The druins tail just stayed wrapped around her softly. He himself, laid down on his back and used his tail to lift her up, setting her down on the scales of his belly.
"Well... Sounds like your momma aint comin back. And to be honest, I can't leave a hapless pup to wander around here alone. Its dangerous. So, I have not choice but to take you with me, so, you can call me daddy if you want, or by my name. Amatsu Mikaboshi Yukimura. Name means August star of heaven above the snowy village.. Youuuuuuurs is?"
He said with a soft smile, using his claw to scratch her behind the ears softly. He knew pups liked that. Lucky for him she was old enough to eat meat as being a male, he had no milk to give. She seemed hungry too, so Amatsu would have to go hunting for her. Though finding food in the human lands would be difficult. The hairless apes were proificiant hunters in their own right.

She watched the ground shrink away as he picked her up with his tail and placed her on his belly, his scales looking awesome in the filtered sunlight. She sat and listened, turning her head as he told her his name, such a mouthful that she knew she wouldn't ever be able to remember it fully, at least not for a little while. It did sadden her to hear him say that her mother wasn't coming back, but her mind, being young, was easily distracted as he scratched her behind the ear, making her feel good. "Ah-mah-sue. Amasu!" She said happily, not even realizing, nor caring, that she wasn't pronouncing his name correctly as she giggled, imagining growing to be that big herself.
Answering his question, she said, "My name is Aiko Sumiko Nakamura, I don't know what that means though." Her mind was distracted again as a tiny bug, probably too tiny for Amatsu to see, flew by her head, and she pounced at it, landing on his belly with a light thump, laughing. Her mind going back to the subject once again, she said, "Amasu, you remind me of my mother, she was kind just like you, and you both looked similar. Why are you so big, though? Could I become as big as you?" Yes, her mind was wandering back to that again, as young minds often did, acting like a see saw or a balance which rocked back and fourth. She waited patiently to hear what, or if, she would tell him why, but soon her stomach growled again, this time more vigorously than the previous times.
"Amasu, I'm hungry, would you mind getting me some food?" She asked cutely, unknowingly using her pupish charm on him as she did so. Her stomach rumbled much more, and she was thinking about what type of food he could get for her, perhaps he could get the biggest buck in the whole world. Perhaps he would find somehting as big as himself and give it to her, perhaps something twice as big as him, or perhaps the world itself could be hers. All these ideas were flowing through her head as she smiled, already able to taste the blood-dripping meat in her mouth after these many days. She didn't have a long attention span, but her stomach did, which kept pulling her back to thoughts of the meat he could bring her.

Amatsu was amused by the drunin pup. Or at least he thought she was a drunin. That would explain her size. But then again, her being a pup would explain her lack of size too. Maybe she was just a runt. It was hard to tell really. The litte thing decided to tell him her name. Just as much as a mouthful as his. He'd just call her Ai for short. Naturally, she couldn't pronounce his name right. That just amused him all the more. Such an innocent little thing. Why her mother just left her was beyond him. Of course, she could have died somehow. Maybe she was killed. Amatsu didn't remember anything about his own parents, though he was sure they were dead.
"Amasu? Eh.. Close enough. I'm big because i'm a druin, and i'm over seven hundred years old. Though, even for druins, i'm a big boy."
He said with a soft laugh. It was then he heard her stomach rumble and sure enough, she was hungry. As he had guessed. Well, time to try and find something to eat. Maybe a dog or some other human tamed animal. Though, she could probebly eat a lot. Amatsu carefully used his tail to lift her off of his stomach and set her on the ground before he righted himself on all fours.
"Allright.. Just stay put and i'll see what I can do."
With that, Amatsu went off to find food. Returning fifteen minutes later, it was obvious the hunt was successful. In his massive jaws laid a 14 point buck, which he carried over to Ai and set down in front of her. That should be enough to feed her, and like always, Amatsu would finish off the scraps.

Kyureki was walking along the ground through the forest, trying to follow Amatsu's scent as she searched for him, a bit ticked and grumpy. She had been waiting to meet back up with him for quite a while but he hadn't showed, so she had either gotten into a battle or found something which had peaked his interest. She was guessing the latter because if there was a battle, she was pretty sure she would have heard something, whether it was yelps or humans screaming or even terrain or such being flung to kingdom come. She hoped that it wasn't another female, he was really bad with them, she would actually call him addicted to them, but than again she didn't have room to talk since she had been one of them, as strangely as it sounded. Actually, that experience was strange, but this wans't the time nor place for that, as she had to figure out where Amatsu was.
The scent finally getting stronger, she got to a clearing and looked around, seeing no hide nor hair of that giant beast which, really, should have been quite easy to find she would have thought. After all, how many 10ft wolves were there around this area, the human lands, let alone existant in Shinkou? Not many, she knew that for sure. His scent was all over the clearing, and was still fresh, telling her that he had just left, but something else grabbed her before she could follow after him. There was another scent in the clearing, this one still fresh, and as she looked around she spotted what it was, a tiny pup laying on a patch of moss on a log. Kyureki tilted her head as she looked at it, wondering what it was before realizing it looked like a tiny version of Amatsu, telling her it must have been a druin or some other deviation of them. She walked over to the little pup and climbed up onto the log, saying in a sweet voice, "Did a giant wolf named Amatsu come through here?"
Aiko had crawled back onto the log and waited there for Amatsu, yawning as she again felt tired but excited at the same time. She had just gotten settled when she heard footsteps walking towards her and looked up to see an odd looking pup standing in the clearing and looking around. Perhaps it was another of Amatsu's pups, she thought, which would then make it her sibling as well because Amatsu said he was her family now. The pup seemed to stand there for a few moments before spotting her and walking towards her calmly, sweetly, telling her that she shouldn't be scared of her. In response to her question, she said, "Amasu said he was going to get me food, as I am very hungry and haven't eaten for a long time. Are you one of Amasu's pups too?"
Kyureki had to supress a giggle because, as much as she hated being mistaken for a pup, this pup made the mistake seem so cute, diminishing any anger that she had. What had she meant by "one of Amatsu's pups", though, had Amatsu said something to make her believe that she was his, or had he actually adopted her? Laughing lightly at first, she replied, "I'm actually not a pup, this is my full size, but yes, Amatsu and I are friends. What did you mean when you asked me if I was one of Amatsu's pups?"
Aiko wondered if she was crazy, wasn't the answer completely obvious? She answered though, because the wolf was sounding so kind to her. "He told me that since my mommy isn't coming back that I would go with him, and that I could call him my daddy. If you and he are friends, then does that make you my new mommy?"
Kyureki blushed, trying to think of what to say, her brain filling with pros and cons of each answer, yes and no, and what it would mean to the pup. After a minute or so, which she knew would feel like an eternity to the small pup, she said, "I guess you could call me that, though I don't know how long I will be travelling with Amatsu. If you ever need anything, though, don't be afraid to ask or tell me. By the way, I'm Kyureki, what is your name?"
Aiko felt overjoyed to have made a new friend, and she wagged her tail, saying, "Thank you, Kyureki, you're kind just like Amasu. Oh, and my name is Aiko Sumiko Nakamura."
At around that time, Amatsu had come back with the food he had promised the pup and laid it down in front of them, indicating for them to eat it. Aiko was overjoyed at the sight, even though this wasn't the biggest deer ever, it was huge, and she was very, very hungry. She immediately ran around to the front and started digging into it, opening up the stomach and going after the organs like a couple of fighting cats, before falling inside it and emerging covered with blood. While she was doing that, Kyureki had walked around towards Amatsu, giving him a questioning look as she glanced over at the pup, whom now looked completely red. In a soft voice, enhanced using her illusory powers, she asked Amatsu, "So you're this pup's new daddy then?" She couldn't help but smile at the thought of Amatsu being a dad, he'd actually make quite a good one now that she'd thought about it, and knew this pup was lucky to have him take her in.

So Amatsu hadn't found the biggest buck ever. Well, this was the human lands. The hairless apes tended to pick all the prey clean. And really, with the land covered in farms and fields, there wasn't a lot of places for a 10ft monster to hide. Still, the pup seemed happy to have a free meal. Hell, who wasn't? It was then that Amatsu saw none other then Kyureki... His relationship with her could only be started by saying "this one time at bandcamp." Yes, there was a strange story about that incident that couldn't be talked about in front of Aiko. Amatsu watched her tear into the meat, and listened to Kyureki talk.
"Kids got no one... Can't leave her alone like this. Sides, I love pups."
He said with a soft laugh. He was amused at how she was covered in blood. She was too young to fear blood. She'd probebly never even shed her own. Which was good. She was a pup after all.

Finally finished with her rampage of destruction upon the innards of the carcass, Aiko walked over to Amatsu and laid down beside him, yawning. "Thank you Amasu, that was the most meat I've eaten in forever." She was happily and quickly falling asleep to Amatsu's warmth now, unaware and uncaring of anything else going on, as her instincts told her this was naptime. Kyureki walked over to grab a few bites herself, not really feeling that hungry right now since she had been so stressed out about Amatsu, and then laid down beside the pup, wrapping her tail around it. Looking up at Amatsu, the expression on her face would be all he'd need to figure out what she was saying to him. "I'll stay here with the pup if you want to eat what's left of the deer." It had meant.
With that, she turned to the pup and could see it nudging itself up farther into her fur, and Kyureki could feel its blood starting to soak into it, but she didn't mind. Tenderly, like some maternal instinct, she started licking the pup's head, cleaning the blood off of it before moving down the neck, and then the body. This pup was dirty, and it had such a good and innocent soul within it, that it saddened her to see the reality that it was alone for so long. She felt a certain love for this pup, though she didn't know why, but perhaps, again, it was those parental instincts which she hadn't experienced before.
Aiko loved the feel of Kyureki's fur, as it was nice and soft compared to the places where she had been sleeping before, welcoming to her as she fell to the hands of slumber. She was dreaming of her mother again, but instead of her mind considering what horrible things had befell her, she was remembering the good times. Her mind then moved on to Amatsu and Kyureki, her new family, and all the good times they could have together as well as the happiness they would bring her now. She thought of chasing bugs with them, Amatsu taking her and showing her what it was like above the trees as high as he could stand, and all the things he had seen in his 700 years of life, which, to her, was an amazing amount of time. All the while, Kyureki's tongue just brought more warmth into her dream, and subconciously she moved yet closer to the female, feeling the comfort of a mother beside her once again.

Amatsu let out a soft "Hoo boy..." As Aiko fell asleep. Seemed he was always playing the hero these days despite being anything but. Well, then again, maybe he was a hero. Still, the druin did seem to do his share of good deeds. Well, in any case. He had yet another child to care for. Though not his by birth, she was now. Least Amatsu's other children were old enough to keep themselves out of trouble. Besides, they had Vorowne and Byrdsong as well. This pup had nobody.
Amatsu moved over to what was left of the dear. He took his large sharp claws and severed the bucks head. Sitting down, he lifted the rest of the carcaress and did what he always did. Unhinging his jaw like a snake, he devoured what was left whole, swallowing it down before snapping his jaws back into place. With that down, the beast went over to Kyureki and Akio, wrapping his large tail around them once before laying down and nodding off a few times. Finally, sleep overtook him shortly after

Aiko was too far into sleep to notice what Amatsu was doing, but Kyureki did, and even though she had seen him do it a few times now, it still amazed her that he could do it. She had gotten used to the size difference between her and Amatsu by now, but that didn't make him seem any less huge as he laid down beside them with a light plop, wrapping his tail around them and going to sleep. Aiko stirred a little bit, feeling yet more warmth around her, but still didn't wake, and Kyureki was left as the only one up as she saw even Amatsu fall to the clutches of sleep. Even though she could feel sleep approaching on her too, she felt that this time she wouldn't be able to sleep that heavily, and certainly she wouldn't be snoring.
She smiled, looking between the two druins, or whatever this pup was since she seemed rather small for a druin pup, and considering what their future would be like from here on. She could only imagine how big this pup would get, wondering how long it would be before it made a dwarf of her as well, but still she couldn't complain. This pup had just showed up, yet it had seemed to take a liking to them immediately, causing them to take a liking to it as well. Perhaps, later, they would play a bit, but after this nap Kyureki knew they'd need to get farther away from the humans, which she hadn't ever seen but had heard about, so that they weren't killed by them. Not that they could be killed, she knew Amatsu wouldn't let that happen to her nor that pup, and if what she had heard about them was correct, then putting them in illusions would be easy.
Her eyes closed slowly as well, her mind drifting off a bit but not completely going into dreams, just flickering in and out of them, while her ears and nose stayed alert for anything which may be approaching them. Images flickered in and out of her mind, many which seemed to have unburried themselves from deep within her mind, from years past. Images of her mother, and how she loved her, yet how she was alone, not accepted by the other wolves, something she would make sure Aiko wasn't. She considered Aiko lucky, because even though both she and Amatsu had their bad sides, they were good souls overall, and would take care of her. Even when, or if, she actually did decide to leave Amatsu, she knew that he still wouldn't intentionally cause anything of her. Her mind was going in circles as she slumbered on lightly, ready to wake up immediately when one of the others did.

Amatsu was resting peacefully with his belly full of food. He was one of only two druins to exhibit the ability to eat a meal whole such as he had. The other being Endymion. The now deceased Endymion. Hah, perhaps they were related in some way though he doubted it. Amatsu didn't remember his parents. They had faded into the annals of history. And so would he eventually. The great beast didn't dream, nor did he wake up for a long time. He came too the next morning, twilight reaching him. With a long yawn, his tail writhed a bit and he opened his eyes.
"Hate... Mornings."
He wasn't hungry. Druins digested prey slowly. Instead, he just looked over at the now awake Kyureki who was still curled up with Aiko. This was a strange family that much was sure. Oh well. She was safe at least. Amatsu made sure of that. With a sighe, he just rolled over and tried to go back to sleep.

Aiko, like most pups, was a morning being, and being so, soon after she felt Amatsu move his tail she was up and flying about a bit, Kyureki watching as she did so before climing out of Amatsu's tail as well. She knew Amatsu hated mornings, he was more of a night being and she knew that, but she also knew that pups loved them, so he would eventually have to make adjustments in his routine. For now, though, she would let him take all the time he needed to get up, and would make sure the pup didn't bother him too much. The pup seemed insanely happy flying up there, but she knew that eventually it would get tired of doing so and come down, which was what she was waiting for. Walking up to him, she said, "Don't worry Amatsu, take as much time as you need, Aiko will be safe with me, you can count on that."
Turning back to the pup, she could see it had landed not far away from her and was bounding towards them with a smile upon its face. Kyureki smiled to her, and said, "Lets leave Amatsu be for the moment, as he's still waking up. How about we go play in one of the trees around the clearing?" She knew that the trees might present huge risks to the pup if it fell off, but Amatsu wasn't the only one with a prehensile tail and hers was even more like a limb in some ways than his, and that was in addition to her levetation magic. She would make sure that the pup didn't get hurt in any way, and could make this a fun and educational experience as well, as there were many things which lived in trees instead of the ground. She softened their noises using her illusion magic so that they wouldn't disturb Amatsu as much, so that he would have an easier time sleeping but wouldn't feel like he couldn't hear them at all.
Aiko grinned as she looked up at Kyureki, she had had fun flying, and she had been in the lowest branches of trees before, but she had never been very far up them at all. Usually, when she did start her series of flying then resting, she would become thirsty or hungry after only a few branches, so she didn't really do much up there. Now, though, she would be able to get up higher than before, and Kyureki seemed to know them better than anyone else she had met, perhaps better than anyone else period, so ti was no wonder she was excited. Kyureki had decided the pup may be too big to lift using her tail alone, but she could still levetate it up a bit into the tree after she climbed it herself. Aiko didn't know this yet, and could only imagine Kyureki with super strength as she used her tail to lift her up into the tree herself.
At the base of a sturdy tree, Kyureki said, "Stay here and once I get onto the branch, you will have to stay still or else I will not be able to lift you." Aiko nodded to Kyureki excitedly, and Kyureki started walking up the tree easily, making Aiko stare in wonder as she did so. How did she do that, she wondered, and could she teach Aiko to do that someday? Kyureki had reached a branch around 10ft up, which would put them at eye level with Amatsu if he did get up, and then looked down at Aiko. She had done exactly as she had asked, which made her smile, and then focusing on her, she lifted her up into the air, causing Aiko to help a bit at the strange feeling. Aiko felt scared, but these feelings changed quickly to amazement as she rose higher and higher, until she was just above the branch, beside Kyureki. She set the pup down gently before letting out a gasp, as she hadn't done anything like that in a long time, so she was out of practice. Aiko smiled and said, "Lets do that again!"
Kyureki securely wrapped her tail around Aiko's midsection, Aiko giggling a bit as she felt it wrap around her, her tail wagging back and forth. A spider had walked down the branch towards them, one which Kyureki knew wasn't harmful to them, and she lowered her six-digit hand-like paw to let it climb up before raising it again and turning to show Aiko. Aiko seemed very curious of it, and Kyureki said, "It is a spider, and while some will hurt you, this one won't, as it is a tree spider." Aiko raised her claw to touch it, and Kyureki said, "I wouldn't do that if I were you, they're very fragile and squish easy. Hold out your paw instead." She did so, and the spider walked onto it before Aiko raised it up to her face to look at it more closely. It had weird limbs by its mouth, and its eyes were numerous, and as she looked at it, she asked, "How do they see with so many eyes?" Kyureki smiled and replied, "I would imagine them asking how you see with so few." Aiko lowered her paw and let the spider down, which walked back up the branch and into the leafs.

Yep. Nobody hated mornings more then Amatsu. He hated mornings like that fat orange cat hated mondays. However, this time it was diffrent. Kyureki was dependable. But she was also 1ft tall and weighed less then Amatsu's index claw. Not to mention, pups were hard to manage alone. The feeling that humans would attack them or something was nagging at him now, so slowly he began to rise. It wasn't long before the beast was on all fours, gazing off into the distance. He needed to find their scent first, so he lowered his head to the ground, sniffing at it until he caught their scents.
"Found em.. Sheesh.. Morning wolves."
He muttered as he began lumbering towards the two of them. Yes, Kyureki and He.. They had probebly the strangest night one could imagine. Not that it wasn't fun. The lumbering beast of battle, now a babysitter eventually found the two up in a tree. Not that it was up for him. They were just at eye level with him. He sat down and gave another long yawn, before licking his chops and just watching. Not like he could hop into the tree and play with them after all.

Kyureki could have handled the pup, but if she did get too mischivious as most pups did, then indeed Kyureki would have a hard time keeping up. She was actually glad that he had come over to them, because she was worried about Aiko falling off the branch which, while she could catch her with her levitation and lower her without injury, would probably take a lot out of her. Aiko had been about to follow the spider to the end of the branch when Amatsu had wandered over, his great breath sounding like a whirlwind to her. She could see him smelling around for them, which made her giggle thinking about how good a hider she could be, and how good a seaker he would be. Perhaps next they could play hide and seak, that would definitely be fun, as she wanted to have fun right now with both Amatsu and Kyureki.
Finally, he did find them though, and wandered over, making Aiko smile a bit more as he issued his greeting, and she replied, "Mowning Amasu, Kyuweki showed me a spiduh!" Her mind was distracted from the thoughts of hide and seak by the thought of the spider, and this time how many legs it had, and how hard it would be to try to control them all. She felt clumsey with her four legs, she could only think that it would be even harder with all the legs that a spider had. She wondered what the spider was doing now that it had left them, perhaps spinning its web more or something, she didn't really know.
Kyureki was getting noticably nervous about the humans discovering them, though, so she spoke up and said, "Perhaps we should put a bit more distance between us and the humans Amatsu, they make me nervous." Aiko's ears perked up at the mention of humans and before he could answer Kyureki, she questioned, "The demons scawe me Amasu, why won't they just go away and leave us?" She hadn't liked the humans before when she was alone, and she didn't like them now, and she just wanted them to go away and leave her alone. She didn't understand why they did anything the way they did, and why strange wolves decided to stay around them when they could most definitely leave whenever they wanted.
