The hellhoundess lay, head on forepaws, almost sadly surveying with dark crimson orbs her reflection on the glassy surface of the lake. She wrinkled her deeply scarred ebony muzzle, contemplating her fearsome appearance, and sighed. So many wolves seemed to be frightened by her. Why wouldn't they accept her? She wasn't like other hellhounds; she didn't kill for fun or delight in cruelty. So... why did they hate her? A songbird trilled on a treebranch above her and she raised her head momentarily to snarl at it, showing long white fangs. It flew away, and she lay her head heavily back upon her paws.

Suddenly the silence of the forest was broken my a mix of noises. The jingling sound of what seemed to be bone on bone, the sounds of metal dinging against metal, and the thud of heavy paws on the earth. As the mists clung a few inches over the ground some sort of hellish being padded forth. Black pelt streaked with red covered a sinewy, lithe body. Light gleamed off a barbaric sword strapped to the creature's back, seemingly useless in their paws. A golden light would relfect back into the eyes of any onlooker as it bounced off a gold mark set into the right foreleg of this creature. A chain strung with many fangs of different shapes and sizes jingled like the bells of some twisted sleigh. Deep red eyes gazed around slowly as this being trekked forth through the mists. What he was no one knew but himself and one other creature. What was left of anyone who found out was around his neck.

Thinking she sensed movement, the hellhoundess glanced up sharply, the fur along her spine rising. An involuntary growl escaped her as the sound of bone against bone reached her ears. She stood slowly, turning cautiously to face the forest. She was sure she could see another animal moving through the mist.

This creature within the mists walked tall and proud. His black and red head was held high as slowly his features could be seen. The sword gleamed in the early light from his back. Those fangs continued to jingle with each step. It was soon that this barbaric creature stood before the hellboundess. The creature looked to be something of a mix of species.

Her dark eyes narrowed as deadly retractile claws slid out from her paws. "Who are you?" she asked warily in a tired-sounding voice.

Those pupiless red eyes gazed at the femme silently. Slowly they took a step forth and growled viciously. "Who I am does not matter."

She growled, but it was barely audible, as she wished to avoid an unnecessary fight. She shifted her weight uneasily as the creature stared at her.

That barbaric creature leaned forth and sniffed at her. His scarred nose took in the scents from her before he slowly leaned back. Red eyes gazed at the female as his head tilted slowly in slight confusion. After a while he meerely shrugged. "What specie are you?"

"A hellhound," she said simply, gazing fearlessly at him. "My name is Ayah."

The nightmaric creature leaned in until his scarred snout touched Ayah's. Slowly he spoke. "I did not ask for your name now did I?" Quickly he pulled away and snorted. "I suppose you, like your or maybe I should say our, bretherin think yourself powerful?" His words were confusing as he did not look entirely to be a hellbound.

"Powerful?" she sounded slightly surprised. "It depends on who you're comparing me to."

The nightmaric creature gazed at her with one orb for a moment. Finally he spoke back up, those fangs jingling their tune of death. "Well powerful as in out of ordinary power. It seems most of our 'bretherin' think they can take on anyone." Slowly he looked down to a few longer fangs on the chain. "Pity to those few whom tried to fight me."

"I wouldn't dream of trying to fight you," she said in a level, emotionless voice.

Dark crimson orbs gazed at the fangs around the creature's neck. "I would have thought it was obvious," she said.
