He sensed some frustration and raised a brow, wondering if he should ask. But then it was gone. He left it alone.
When morning came, he awoke slowly. He hadn't even realized it when he had fallen asleep, but he felt quite refreshed. Well, that was good. He glanced over at Midnight. She seemed like she was still asleep. Food... that was a good idea, he thought to himself. He rose, stretching and yawning before giving her one last glance. He would go off, fetch something to eat and come back, maybe surprise her by the time she woke up. That is, as long as he wasn't gone too long... he didn't want to freak her out either.
In any case, off he went, his senses and instincts coming into play as he began his hunt.

Midnight opened her eyes and lifted her head when he left. Her plan was ruined. Oh well. She got up and stretched, her wing feeling better. She laughed. This was gonna be good. She started following him into the woods, her devious plan forming in her mind.

He loved hunting. It always made him feel so alive with the way his senses became heightened and he was aware of everything around him. It wasn't long before he heart something rustle in the underbrush and then out darted a rabbit. He took off after it, dodging this way and that and suddenly, it's life was ended as his jaws found it. Well, that would do him.... He wondered about Midnight though. Perhaps she would be super hungry. Perhaps he should catch her two or three rabbits... or something else.
He continued his hunt. Certainly, if he had caught one, there should be more nearby. He heard something and turned, leaping toward the sound.

Midnight flew up into a tree, her wing fine. It felt good to stretch it some. She watched him hunt. His motions were fluid, and he hunted with ease. She sighed lightly, feeling upset.
There really wasn't any way to tell him how she felt, unless he was good at hiding his feelings and did like her or was very clueless. She guessed it was probably the latter, since he genuinely believed that her wing made her feel vulnerable. Something a friend told her once rang through her mind: 'Sometimes it takes a life-and-death situation to dig up the feelings in them. For me, I was attacked by a cougar, and my mate saved me. That was when he realized that he couldn't bear to live without me.' It did make sense. She didn't really want to have to almost die to get Ainoko to love her. It was kind of a desperate situation thing you would do, which she wasn't.
Suddenly, she realized her conscious had been brushing against his the whole time. Mortified, she severed the connection. He probably heard all of it, she thought. Oh, great.

iC:
As he continued, he swore he caught the scent of deer. He got excited, quickening his pace until he caught sight of it. Yep, deer. It was an old buck, looking like it was probably going to kick it sometime soon anyway. It was feasting on some leaves in the brush and oblivious to his presence. He sneaked around, knowing he couldn't wait too long or else his chance would be lost. He was almost ready... about to pounce...
Suddenly, he felt something pushing against his mind. He wasn't sure, but it felt familiar somehow. Still, now wasn't the time... he had let it in for a brief moment, then pushed it back out, and soon the feeling vanished. He had heard some of it, it had sounded like Midnight's voice. What she said made him feel curious, but he had to keep his focus. The buck looked up.. oh great! If he didn't attack now, he'd lose it.
He pounced, nipping at the deer and it tried to flee in fright. He was after it, and leaped again, this time taking a chunk of it's shoulder. Just another try, certainly... yes! His teeth sank into its throat, and he had to hold on as it slowed, collapsing. Proud, he began to drag it back to where he had left Midnight, though he had a feeling she was awake. Well, then he'd surprise her with a nice meal. Though as he moved, he found himself thinking about before when it seemed she had said something in his mind. All he had heard was that sometimes it takes a life-and-death situation to dig up the feelings in them. But, nothing more. What on earth did it mean? Perhaps he could find a way to ask Midnight without it being weird.
He was coming upon the clearing now...

Midnight sensed curiousity eminating from him, and she felt sick. She knew he would probably ask her about it, but she wasn't sure how. She definetly wouldn't ask someone, 'Hey, I heard your thoughts...' that would be weird.
Flying silently back to the river clearing where they first met, she slipped into the water and treaded; the water calming her mind. Then she would backtrack and sit in a tree along Ainoko's path, so when he noticed the empty den, she would be behind him.
When that happened, she would thank him for hunting, have a little, then brush past him. Flicking her tail in his face, she would turn and slap her forepaws on the ground with her butt in the air. Being prepared for the questioning look that she knew he would give her, she would stand and say, "Chase me. I want to run."

When he arrived, he did note the empty spot where she had been sleeping against the tree, and then looked around, moving toward the water thinking she might have decided to go for a dip or to drink. Little did he know she was in a tree behind him, now. He dropped his kill, wondering where she could be. Suddenly, she came up behind him and thanked him for the meat. He was a little on edge, then, wondering why she had startled him like that. His senses were all heightened from his hunt and he didn't think it was smart of her to do such a thing. If she had been anyone else, he was likely to have attacked.
He released his breath and pushed those thoughts aside, his annoyance gone. Although, she only ate a little of the meat and now she was brushing past him and flicking her tail in his face. What was her deal, anyway? Maybe she just hadn't been hungry... but, he definitely was! He certainly hadn't expected her to be acting like this. He did, indeed, give her the questioning look she was expecting and when he got her answer he raised a brow. "Well, I just got done running. Let me enjoy this kill a bit before someone else decides to steal it and then I'll play all you want." He was a little unsure what to make of her... Here he had hoped to surprise her and make her feel happy after having the injury... and well, she seemed hardly to notice.
He sat and took a large chunk out of the deer, chewing on it and swallowing, then taking another. It wouldn't take him too long to eat a good portion until he felt quite satisfied, which afterward, he would proceed to lick around his maw and clean himself. He wondered if she would still be in the mood to run... He definitely didn't mean to upset her if he had...

Midnight sighed, and padded over to him sitting on the other side of the buck. "I'm sorry. Really. It's just... breaking my wing scares me. If you weren't here, I would have lost it. It just got me on edge. Sorry." she said again.
'Who am I kidding? I'm starving.' she thought. Ripping off a piece, she would settle and eat it, and continue to until she was full. 'But not full enough to play,' she thought, already excited.
After she was done, she would precede to chase things, like squirrles and butterflys; impateint for him to be done.

The tune winds it's way around tree trunks and vines, bushes and grasses, notes of calling, invitation to play, learning and duty, but also love and protection, all coloured with the waver of loneliness that insinuated itself through the melody.
Cercius takes the recorder from his mouth, a tut of disgust escaping his lips as he tries to get the song right in his head, "Not like that! There is no sadness, no loneliness!" he says, slipping the instrument back into the thin pouch on the arm of his leather jacket, before finally opening his ice blue eyes, trying to concentrate by glaring at a rather reproachful tree. He follows the thin cord around his neck down to the wooden ocarina at the end, taking a deep breath to clear his mind, cupping it in his hands. He brings it to his mouth and closes his eyes, playing a tune to soothe and focus his distracted mind.
It sounds like the howling of wolves.

Ainoko softened with her next words and released a soft sigh. "No, you shouldn't have to apologize. It's no big deal, really." With that he continued until he was finished eating, to which he saw she was already entertaining herself with play. He shook his head, pouncing after her in an attempt to catch her.
He stopped suddenly though, ears swiveling on his head as he looked up and into the trees once more. That music... perhaps a wolf might think it was others howling, or would distinct it as something else. But he knew otherwise. A human of sort was nearby somewhere. He had been sort of hoping the humans would stay at least while Midnight was present. Oh well... it was perhaps bound to happen here.
"You hear that?" he asked Midnight.

Midnight stopped. "Yea. It sounds close." with that she would will her wings to dissipate; the only things abnormal now would be her scarf and the dots on her leg. Before he could ask, she said, "Humans think winged wolves are witchcraft and evil. It makes me less noticeable." Ruefully, she thought, 'Not that turquoise eyes, bandanna, and dots are noticable...' "Should we get away? It almost sounds friendly..."

Cercius takes the ocarina from his mouth and lets it fall back to his chest, exhaling with a loud sigh. He smiles, leaning back to look up at the sky. "Such beautiful skies they have here... Ou es voh...Bran..." He shakes his head, dismissing his own concern. "Maybe I'll find him next time, apologize then. No matter, it's time I played the song of change..." Cercius takes out his recorder, licking his lips and taking a deep breath, placing his lips around it and allowing the air to escape. The sound is erratic, ear-piercing and seemingly random with no pattern to the notes. He takes one hand from the instrument and begins sliding his jacket off, leaving only his short-sleeved tunic and his bare arms to the chilly air.

Ainoko glanced at Midnight when she dissipated her wings and explained her reasons. Yea... witchcraft. He didn't know what sort of humans she'd met... it was true some thought that of winged or large wolves. In any case, he glanced once more toward the sound as it changed, becoming more erratic and less melodious. It was definitely not something tasteful to the ears and he found himself lying his backward on his head.
"Yea, perhaps leaving is a good idea," he agreed, giving his wings a test flap. "Perhaps you shouldn't have gotten rid of your wings?" he teased with a grin. "No matter, I can carry you if you wish.."
